New Info About Kong's Closure

:( That's a shame about Kong...I liked that ride too! The first time DH and I were on it was on our honeymoon, and we had to wait a longggg time to ride! Guess I'm just pretty much against change in general though - I LIKE to go back to parks and ride the same things! :)

Cymbaldiva, I know exactly how you feel. I would love to go back to wdw and still be able to ride 20,000 Leagues (my favorite ride!) and Mr. Toad's Wild Ride.

All we can hope for is something even more exciting in the future. A lot of people will say they'd rather see a new one built somewhere else, but its easier and makes more business sense to kill an older, less popular attraction and transfer staff than to re-staff an entire new attraction and keep the older one running still. I will miss those enormous sets though.

I know 20k is off topic, but I hope that whatever new attraction goes on that land, they utilize that lagoon. If they pave over that beautiful piece of property, I will never understand there reasons for it.

I personally loved Kong, believing that a ride doesn't have to be thrilling to be good. To some it was, but to many, it was a joke. It just wasn't realistic at all, the animatronics were just too fake looking and I can recall several times where people laughed while on the ride. The non-enthusiasm of the drivers also didn't help it. Although I will miss it, it's time for it to go.

Bad.... well they were sued by Disney over it. When the shark went down in front of you it created a mouse ear looking bubble. So Disney sued them (Disney tried to find anyway to sue them). So they had to change the way it went under the water.

It is sad to see Kong go. It is one of my fav. rides of all time.

Its odd how people who go to a theme park and then laugh and scold what's going on the entire time. These are the same people who scream out during attractions just to mock the what's going on. I find it rude because its other people who can ruin the time that I enjoy on the ride.

I have to agree with you Merlin. A lot of rides have to be appreciated for the amount of set design and detail and just the level of effort of the show put on before them. I loved the gigantic New York street sets, and the entire feel of being on a skyway tram above the city. It was a thrill when you were dropped and thrown around. I think maybe some people expected more out of the ride. Its true that some drivers are totally out of being in the moment. But there are still a lot of CMs that work rides and keep the same level of enthusiasm with each ride, because they know it may be there hundreth time, but its the riders first.

i think all the rides at usf opened the way jaws did. i was there opening day. nothing wanted to work right. everything broke down. it was horrendous. i cant believe kongfrontation is gone though! *tear* and i hear e.t. is gone now in hollywood. i have such great memories of e.t. in hollywood. like how i got into the park for free one night and went straight down to the e.t. store and spent.. oh.. $100 or so. <3 e.t.

I never really liked Kong. I will ride it a couple of times in May then. Get my rides in before it's gone forever. It isn't that interesting. Maybe if they added something else it would get more people on it. That's theme park business though.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news . . . but Kong closed last September. Its really really not there now. Sorry :(

Darn. I wanted to ride it again. I haven't been there since Oct 2001. Oh well. I think I heard The Mummy will go in it's place and will be good. Thanks anyway.

I don't know if others agree with me, but USF is SO 90s, my first visit was in 1990 and back then I was very impresed with the park (maybe because too much WDW over the years :animwink:) but in recent visits I found it boring, my last visit were in 2000 and only enjoyed BTTF and Men in Black, in 2001 I skipped the studios and went to IOA.

I'm glad for the new projects at Disney and Universal's parks.

At the risk of sounding sad! Kong was one of my favourites, it brought back many happy childhood memories of watching the film and being really scared. All of my three children have loved it and we have some great sovenior photos, pretending that Kong is going to eat us and screaming as loud as we can:animwink:

I gree with everyone one,
But... We have to admit... universal Studios Has alot of ground to gain. I mean it hasen't had any mayor upgrades since MIB. in which by the way. I didin't find anything Spectacular about it.

Back to the future is been running the same way since it open and after riding spiderman Back to the future feel and looks like a ride from the 80's. I guess we can say the same thing with Jaws, Kong, Earthquake,

I think the main issue here is the Lack of an Intense Ride in Universal Studios.

I mean technology has grown in other theme parks but Universal Studios Kind of is left out... and his new Baby Brother is getting all the attention (IOA)

I think they need to wake Universal Studios From a coma with an intense ride

this could be just a peek of a bigger picture

First - I like MIB ... very fresh take on the old "shoot stuff for points" idea.

Second - Love BTTF! Complain about what you must, but this ride is a classic... leave it be!

Third - Does every park have to have an over the top scary thrill ride? I think not. I like that US hasn't turned into a thrill park - I don't enjoy rides with a high vomit factor....guess that's why I've never shelled out the $$$ to visit IOA - nothing for me to do there! :animwink:

Just my .02! Later Ya'll!
