I just heard last night that the Hess Station at the Magic kingdom toll plaza will be completely demolished to make way for a new Hess station with a larger convenience store. The new station will be specially designed with WDI approval. AAA Car care and Alamo Rental will remain. NOW DISCUSS!

That is cool. I have been there many times. The station is very small and needs to get bigger. I wonfer if they are going to make it more Disney.

I wonder what will be different. They probably needed to redo the underground tanks so they might as well go do the whole place. It is supposed to open up by Thanksgiving

That is certainly a possibility. They may also be replacing product piping and/or dispensers. There are certainly a few possibilities. The Hess Express stores up here are not located under the canopy with the pumps, they are off to the side. This allows for better traffic flow.

Not really. It is not uncommon for a 2000 square foot house to go from cleared lot to closing in 60 days it is just a matter of good scheduling with the sub contractors and good planning. Given the amount of customers that station has and the lost revenue for every day it is closed it is very conceivable that work will go on 24/7 until it is complete. So 90 days is not out of the realm of possibilities.

Well, if nothing else, it's fantastic that they're running the design past WDI; hopefully that will prove to be a positive decision.

Well, Looks like the rumor is true, I passed the station coming home from MK today and its all closed and fenced up. So something is defiantely happening.

No, Publix, a Florida Supermarket, sub-contracts a company out of South Florida that will build from scratch an entire new supermarket in 90 days Guarenteed. If they can put up an entire supermarket in that time, I'm sure a gas station will be no problem.

Thanks for the info!

Travelling specialized construction companies are getting to be more common. When Barnes and Noble replaced the campus bookstore they flew in workers who only built college bookstores and were on the job 14 hours a day, they were getting paid by the job and would rather get it done quickly and get home to their families than sit around a hotel room with nothing to do.

Replacing underground storage tanks and associated piping/dispensers doesn't take very long. Building a bigger convenience store would take the longest, probably longer then 3 months.

It doesn't take that long to build a brand new convenience store complete with pumps.

Haven't you ever noticed how they can spring up practically overnight in your own home town?

I wonder if there's any chance of them adding an E85 pump?

That would be nice, there are only 3 in Florida, 2 on military bases and one up here in Tallahassee.

Yeah a gas station can have all the tanks and pipes done in a few weeks since all they really need to do is dig and check soil for any leaking. Probably most of the gas station is pre-built (tanks, pumps, building parts, etc). Even just redoing the building should be quick. I expect the Thanksgiving date to keep.

well the pumps being removed and changed out is probably due to that enviromental law thingy that says all the pumps have to be converted before the end of 2006 or something like that.
