New H2O+ Toiletries - GF?

Does the GF still have upgraded toiletries? I know that the whole WDW got new amenities but if they standardized the toiletries there, it is just another downgrade for the GF! It seems that Disney's flagship resort's price continues to creep up but the amenities (standard and special to the GF) are decreasing rapidly.

What other downgrade are you thinking of?

The rooms aren't in great condition, newspaper delivery was stopped, turn down service is only received if you ask (from my experience)...
I stayed at the GF in 2008 and they were fine, I can't comment on their standards after that, I think it's a shame about the newspaper delivery. I didn't know turn down was only on request now, thats handy to know as we're staying there in the fall.

I thought they did away with the news paper when they went to free WiFi, the whole going green thing. I probaly only read the paper on our last day or days that it was raining and had a little time to kill. I wouldn't call that a downgrade

Even so, it's just dumbing down the ambiance. It upsets me because that resort really is my favorite and for sentimental reasons.

Last time I was there in July 2011, they did not give me the turndown service until I saw a maid on the second night and asked her for it. I actually wrote a letter to Disney saying how deplorable the condition of my room was (and for $600 over July 4th week??!!) They called me back and the guy I spoke to was very upset. He had a meeting with the general manager of the Floridian and the housekeeping manager of the Magic Kingdom resorts (I guess they are under one person??)

Fair enough, but I'm travelling from the UK, I'm not taking a laptop on holiday with me.

You can still get the paper for free. They just stopped delivering them to every single room. There should still be stacks by the elevators or in some other centrally located common area. The desk should be able to tell you where to find them. Both cuts down on the number of wasted papers, and the time spent dropping them off at every single room.

We were at the GF last November and well let's just say I brought home quite a few toiletries, I didn't think the quality had changed from 2010 to 2011. They smell wonderful and the body cream is nice and thick. We also received downturn service every night, it actually my daughter's favorite thing as they would set up her stuffed animals every night on the bed. The condition of the was quite good, I work at a hotel outside Boston and am quite picky, I check under beds etc. I was very happy with the quality of the cleanliness.

My turn..Now I've never stayed at GF and probably never will unless I get a new record contract with a bumper bonus but here's my say. First, when Iam on vacation, and especially staying inside the magic bubble,I do not want to read newspapers about what country is fighting or any other world problems, and also, are the soap and shampoo at GF a better quality than at POP or PO resorts? Now Iam only curious about the toiletries? Not arguing ok.

These are the H2O+ toiletries I got in the Wilderness Lodge last week, I don't know if they are the same ones as in GF. We were in one of the renovated rooms.

I totally get where you're coming from, but when you are used to the special amenities that the GF notoriously offered, it's annoying!

From what I know about the toiletries, is that they are all from H20+. The only difference is what you get. For example, when I stay at the Contemporary and the Polynesian, I get two bars of soap, conditioner and a shampoo, as well as lotion. When I have stayed in Port Orleans, I have gotten one bar of soap, a combined conditioner and shampoo, as well as a lotion.

However, in the 90's the MK resorts used to get way more things: shower hat, toothbrush, etc. Now I think that most of the resort toiletries are streamlined depending on level of resort. Although, I have never seen the above "green" WL bottles. Maybe some of the resorts go with colors/themes that match the overall theme of the hotel (ie: green for WL). The toiletries I have from the Polynesian are clear with the blueish liquid color.

Oh, and I supposedly hear that Coronado Springs as well as Saratoga gets different toiletries (because one is a huge convention place and the other a spa).

Also, in the past, ALL MK resorts got the USA Today delivered to their room. It was nice to read if you had a few minutes or down time. I do agree with missing that. Two years ago when I was staying in the Tower of the Contemporary I received a USA Today. However, last year in the Polynesian I did not. Not that I wanted to read about the horrible things going on in the world--but it was nice to keep up to par with things. I do know that you can still get them in the lobby for free.

When we stayed at POFQ last year we got a round bars of soap with Mickey stamped on them and a combined shampoo and conditioner, the soaps were H20+ but you wouldn't realize it unless you peeled the label open. I don't remember there being a lotion, but I could be wrong. We brought home extra bars of Mickey soap but not anything else.

I really liked the Mickey soaps and was a little disappointed that we didn't have them again.

I have stayed at the Grand Floridian twice. Once back in 2006 and again Sept 2011.
The first stay everything was nice, clean, and enjoyable, until the hurricane hit. They took care of there guests very well.
The 2011 visit was not good at all. The building we were in smelled liked mildew. Wallpaper coming off the wall, and just plan dirty. They need to do alot of work to get the place back up to where it should be.
I also did not like the parking arraingements this time. The whole front is disginated for valet parking. You cannot park at the convention center. You have to drive across the street back where the golf maintenance area is. What a mess. I really think Valet should be all the way in the back. Poor management indeed.
Also the monorail system was not open for extra magic hours anymore. You have to take a bus or boat if you can wait that long. I always thought the reason you paid extra for a monorail resort was the amenities, like using the monorail.
Unless things change I will not be staying there again.
I enjoy the Polynesian and the wilderness much more, even Port Orleans was nicer.
