New Franchise for Disney???

I just picked up one of these collectible keys on my recent trip. I started seeing them all over WDW and finally had to have one. According to a cast member that I talked to, these are being released early before the story is released about Walt Disney and his trusted adviser who was the “Master of the Keys.” He was the closest adviser on the creation of Disney and had a master set of keys to all the attractions. As the story goes, he was very mysterious and roamed the parks at all hours but no one really knew who he was and these are said to be replicas of keys from his personal key ring.

Is this is the start of a new big franchise for Disney?? I can't wait until my next trip to get the rest of the collection. I bought the Walt Disney World one but I saw there are a few others that were already sold out. I believe this was the Key Master's key to Cinderella's castle (see picture).

I really like the POTC movie Davy Jones' chest key key chain they had for sale when I was there in 2012. I don't really use a key chain though.

I have a key to the Haunted Mansion, and one from the TOT that I bought back in 2007, I think.

I just think it's a cool merchandise series...but not really connected to anything else.

I like yours though...need to make another trip!

All this talk about keys reminds me of the nice personalized, semi-backstage tour i had the pleasure of experiencing one fine afternoon at the MK back in 2007.
I was invited to take the tour with a friend, and their on-duty CM acquaintance.

As we were led in through the back hallway ( the handicapped entrance ) i noticed all the famous 'keys to the mansion' that were hung on the wall to your right...along with 'service bells'....as you entered and walked along the hallway.
Each real metal key had a name above it, each a person who worked on the attraction when it was built.

Sadly, many of the keys were MISSING...ripped from the wall by 'souvenir hunters' passing through. Our CM host for the day noted it to us.
Of course those keys belonging to the more known Imagineers of yore were the ones mostly missing.

I have wondered if they were every replaced....even if not with authentic reproductions.
It was sad seeing Marc and Claude, and of course Master Gracy's keys missing!

Sorry to thread drift....but all this talk about keys reminded me of that unique afternoon.

I saw a video someone put on YouTube of the back hall. I want to see back there! It's a shame people are so selfish and steal but that is a beautiful memory.

When I was brought into the back hallway of the Mansion in October 2012, the keys were all artificial and glued to the board. Some seemed to have been missing "intentionally." Not sure if they've always been fake keys, though! :)
