Really? It took them five years to do it in DCA and they're going to pull it off in two years at DHS? I can only imagine what they would've told you had you actually bought them lunch.

It will be about 5 years from announcement to opening, actual construction is going to be about 2 years 8 months. Given that it still doesn't seem possible to build it in 2 years, and that would assume starting construction Jan 1, 2012. I think if anything comes to DHS is would just be Radiator Springs Racers and not the entire Carsland.

I'd buy Pixie Hollow showing up somewhere in MK.

Radiator Springs is NOT coming to any park in Florida. It's ride system is way too similar to Test Track.

If they were to build Cars Land it would be without Radiator Springs and a different attraction that would be the central part...however, they do not want to build another land in Hollywood Studios...they want to expand on Pixar Place.

Pixar Place expansion is happening and an announcement will be likely after Avatar's construction has started.

Profit can and will be made in this expansion. They want to make this expansion perfect like with the careful planning into Avatar-land.

I spent quite a bit of time yesterday talking about how Disney handles enhancements and additions compared to Universal Studios. Universal Creative seeks input from individuals that have an attachment to the source material and as such have something to gain in their entity being represented properly. Harry Potter is a perfect example of this. When Disney was botching the negotiations with JK Rowling, Universal was observing how Disney took the "we know what you're doing, trust us" approach. Comparatively, Universal involved JK and Warner Brothers in every aspect of the land's creation.

This is a problem that could present itself in World of Avatar. This seems to have come down from above and been mandated to imagineers. I doubt that imagineers have a passion for this project at this time so if a similar approach is taken with Cameron we may be in for a half a$$ed project. The good news is, it seems that Cameron will be involved in all of this, but the reality is - the best projects have been the ones that were original ideas from Imagineers, not projects mandated from above.

When upper management screams for a replacement to Alien Encounter that uses the existing space and a Lilo and Stitch theme, it's hard for Imagineering to have the same passion for that as say Tony Baxter has for the small projects around the parks that he's spearheaded in Disneyland.

I know Disney wants to cut down on the unnecessary spending done by Imagineering but they are the creative force behind the Theme Parks. They are also the best bet in the company for creating innovative attractions that will re-position Disney as the industry leader in creativity that they once were.

What bothers me about Avatarland is that it seems to have come from Staggs almost entirely. He knew he could get Cameron, Lightstorm, Fox, Disney and Iger behind it and thus he was so proud to make it his baby from conception.

It's almost like the politicians wanted a war and they got it; now, they have to convince the soldiers (i.e. the imagineers) to fight it for them, and the populace (i.e. you and me) to support it and nobody seems too enthusiastic about it. Still, it's WDI's job, and they would rather remain employed, and so they'll make it happen. I'd be shocked if Rohde didn't cringe when he first heard the idea.

Anyway, whether it's a Pixar Place expansion, Avatar, a Brazilian Pavilion, a Future World redux, or Lucas Land, WDI will do extraordinary work.

But a Cars Land in DHS? No. Not happening.

Your post was pretty accurate, other than that bit.
Staggs did spearhead the Avatar deal, but it was on direct orders from Iger, who sent him out to land a big franchise. Eisner got Lucas and Uni had Rowling. Iger wanted a franchise to be part of his legacy in the parks.

Looks like he got it...if it indeed happens. (It likely will. Or it could just vanish into thin air, like Clive Barker's Abarat deal with Disney.)

Bad weather again!!! We are going to try again next week. We were going to fly over Disney but there was no point the clouds were to low and frankly it was quite dangerous flying VFR into that mess. Soon though I WILL have some great aerials.

I could totally see this happening. It seems like it was met with lackluster enthusiasm from most. I say get rid of it and come up with something better. Like Pandas. :p

So could I. I just don't see how they can pull this off. Who knows though.
