New Firework show for Disney/MGM Studios?

Alright, I wasn't even going to post this but I thought, what the heck? Maybe somebody here would know something. This is coming from a questionable source (for me at least) from Miceage's forums. So basically, PLEASE CONSIDER THIS A RUMOR UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE!

Alright, according to "Bill" over at Miceage (I already know what some of you are thinking ;) ), Disney will announce at LMA's press event a new nightly fireworks show for MGM that was, according to him, tested on April 30th. I imagine if there was a test that it could easily have just been a test for a fireworks show to be performed on the press event only, but he seemed sure it would become a regular thing.

I hate to be negative and would be super-excited if they brought back a night-time fireworks show for MGM, but considering there hasn't been even a peep on here about it, I am unfortunately skeptical. Maybe though Disney has finally been able to surprise us internet fans without any leaks getting out?

So, does anyone know if there is any truth to this?

i was told that it was for the celebration to open Lights Motors Action. it will be done again for the press event. it was pretty cool to watch though. the sky seemed to never go dark. a whole bunch of light!

CTX,

I'm with you, this seems pretty unlikely IMO, especially given that they've just opened a new attraction at Disney-MGM, and Fantasmic! is successful enough at keeping guests there until dark (or at least give them a reason to return). Playing devil's advocate however, it's possible this fits with Disney's "reinvestment" strategy for growing attendance, as Weiss explained in the Orlando Sentinel piece.

As much as I would love to have Sorcerey back (while we're at it, I'd like the Sorcerer cap gone so you can see Chinese Theatre again, and I'd like Vincent Price back to the Sorcerey narration), I'd be surprised.

Incidentally, speaking of Sorcerey, slight OT, but did they get rid of Inflatable Sorcerer Mickey when they do that show?? I was there on July 4 in 2003, but no Mickey. Rest of the show seemed the same so I just wondered if this was a technical issue or cost-saving measure.

That's what I figuered too, that's its probably just for the press event. He seemed positive though that it would become a regular staple for the theme park and that the "premiere show" would be for the press on May 4h. I'm not sure where he got that info from though.

It is possible to have both Fantasmic and a night-time firework show. DL has been doing that for years, but yes, Fantasmic does seem to fulfill MGM's night-time needs.

As for Sorceror Mickey balloon, as far as I know, the last time he was used was the last real performance of Sorcery in the Sky before it was sidelined for Fantasmic. The special performances of SITS for the 4th and NYE don't use the balloon anymore. My guess its been discarded a while ago.

True, but unlike Disneyland Resort, Disney-MGM is not the only other park at Walt Disney World from which to see a "genuine" fireworks show. We can't do it at DCA anymore because of "Anaheim H.O.M.E." Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see a "Sorcerey" type show return to Disney-MGM, I just agree with you that it seems unlikely.

Thanks, I suspected as much. Just glad I have video evidence of a fireworks show at MGM :)

last I heard....

I worked fireworks for special events last summer (at the studios) as well as into the fall, and I was told that there were no plans of regular fireworks, since Fantasmic was ample.

As of last fall, you could still see Sorcery in the Sky if you were in a convention or special group that came through (after the park was closed to daytime guests).

However, they got rid of the Sorcery Option, and now you cannot view Sorcery (I viewed it last fall, when it was called 'sorcery's final show' by castmembers). Instead, convention and special event leaders are given the option to "design their own fireworks show."

For about $20K, they'll spell out your company's name in fireworks.

What he saw was a rehearsal for the 50th press event pryo that they're going to shoot off later this week.

There will NOT be a nightly fireworks show at the Disney/MGM Studios.

Considering that Fantasmic still fills up for every show I would doubt that Disney is looking in to a replacement or something else for night time entertainment.

This was a rehersal for the Press Event. Sorcery, as stated is officially dead, and there are no immediate plans for a new daily show.

I'd only wish for a nighttime fireworks show if they took off the hat, The chinese theater would look great as the front attraction for a pyro show (ala Believe...)

^^Actually, the hat creates a great centerpiece for a firework show. I saw the NYE show there in 2001 and was amazed at the lighting effects they had for the hat that I had never really noticed up to that point. The ears were lighting up with the music and the stars on the hat had those pixie dust like strobes that went with the show. It was actually pretty neat and it didn't get in the way of the show at all.

If they ever do decide to do a regular firework show at MGM, the one thing I would like seen done is to plant smaller palms along Hollywood BLVD. Not only are they getting too tall for the facades along the street, they did block some of the fireworks. They've already replaced the palms on Sunset and the Animation Courtyard within the last two years with smaller palms, so I imagine HB could be next.

I was at Epcot on Saturday night and after IllumiNations was over, you could hear and see fireworks coming from the general direction of Disney/MGM Studios. I knew it was too late for them to be Fantasmic's fireworks so this might explain what those were.

I too heard and saw some fireworks going at about 9:30 or so on saturday night. Very colorful and the were consistant, so it couldnt have been Fantasmic or Illuminations. MK was closed early for Grad Nights that nite, so my first assumption was a special Wishes showing, but when I watched the fireworks, they didnt follow the Wishes order (And I know the Wishes order pretty good, Ive seen it many times) So OmegaKnight... maybe what we saw was this test firework show?

I was staying at Pop Century saturday night and saw the test. The resort left a flyer in our rooms telling us about what time to expect to see them. It was very nice with a big finale. Some of it was obscured but the woods between MGM and Pop, but impressive none the less. The flyer made it sound like it would be an ongoing thing. I'll see if I can find it.

A new (temporary, I'm guessing) fireworks show premiered on January 1st, i think. It was called Lights, Cameras, Fireworks! and probably follows Sorcery's old schduele (July 4th, New Years...)

I saw the fireworks from the Epcot parking lot after Illuminations on Saturday night. I was wondering what was going on because I know that Fantasmic is usually before Illuminations and Magic Kingdom's Celebration in the Sky wasn't until midnight for Grad Nite.
