New biometric machines at the Magic Kingdom turnstyles

It appears that Disney has begun to change the biometric scanners at the turnstyles. Some of the turnstyles now feature the above-pictured readers, onto which you put only the tip of your index finger rather than sliding two fingers into a machine.

I think it's much easier this way! :p :sohappy: :hammer:

It's still using biometrics... there's no fingerprint actually being digitized. And, the biometric information is NOT stored on the card... only a database identifier.

Let me find the previous thread...

Yes, please, clear this up NOW. NO information about you is stored on your park pass. NO information about your fingerprint is being gathered. NOTHING about this is data collection, only tying biometric data to the park pass.

Ricky, Ricky, Ricky.. you know what you just caused?? Mass hysteria amongst the conspiracy theorists that claim Disney wants to track your every move and take over the world... Ohh man, Ricky.. you should know this is not a fingerprint scanner but a biometric scanner.. Ohh brother.. I can only imagine what you are going to say about it this week on your podcast.. OY!!!

Maybe Disney would be well-served to put a sign on each of these readers that states "This 'ticket tag' system relies only upon geometric measurements of your finger. It neither scans nor records any fingerprint information."

The biometrics thing doesn't bother me. At UGA, we had to stick our entire hand into a biometric thingy to get into the dining halls, residence halls, and the student physical activities center. The machines were BIG BIG BIG, but at least no one felt their fingerprints were being scanned...

Thank you for editing your OP and your blog.

Ask and ye shall receive. I assumed information, and you know what happens when you assume...

It's good to keep people on their toes anyway. :)

I wish I had seen these on my trip a couple of weeks ago. I hope they make things go smoother/faster at the turnstyles.

They definitely were faster. It's much easier for a first-timer to comprehend sticking their finger onto a fingerprint-like device (like they've seen in movies and on TV) than placing them into an unknown dark space and wiggling them around until it works.

Sounds great. People seemed to have their mind blown by the two finger approach

BTW, did you get to check out that video yet Ricky?

You get so many emails that it is tough to get a reply from you :)

On these readers, do you press down anything or do you just put your finger above the reader and it scans that way? I can't tell because of the glare on the pictures I've seen. I don't think anyone said anything about this last month when they were put into place.
