New FastPass rules?

OK, the last time I was at WDW, you couldn't get a second Fastpass until after your current time window had expired, i.e., if your FastPass time for TOT was 2:15-3:15, you would not be able to get a new pastpass until 3:15.

Now, I know they have loosened the rules, but I am unclear as to how.

Could someone (maybe a CM?) fill me in please.

Help out a fellow slightly OCD guy who needs to compulsively plan his vacation!!

Thanks

Well...actually, now, when you get a FP for something, and the starting time is 3-15, you cant get another one til 3-20. I also know that if your in the parks on a very busy day, and you get a FP at 11am for 5pm, they let you get another at maybe 1pm or 3 pm...So its possible to hold 2 valid fastpasses at the same time

Don't know if it's changed. But last time I was there in August, You could get a fast pass 2 hours after you received the fast pass. It'll say it on your pass.

In other words if you picked up a fast pass at 2:00pm, no matter what your return time was you could get another one at 4:00pm. Under the return times, you should see something written along the lines of "next fastpass available at XX:XX".

Let me throw another question in to confuse things up a bit...

I'm going to assume that the "computers" actually count the number of guests that receive passes during the hour, hence the spacing out of the passes. When a CM covers the machines after they have distributed all the passes for the day, the machines themselves are not "out" of tickets...there is just no more available slots of time to give a guest...right?:veryconfu

I saw this after a CM covered up SM fastpass machines the other day, and while he was doing this, he pulled the holding bin of thermal paper (unused passes) and it was still half full. There must have been another 1000 or so in just that one machine!

I don't know how it works, but a few weeks ago we got fast passes to Philharmagic and the stated time for us to come back was a few hours from then, but we could get another fast pass in 30 minutes. We've had the wait times for another fast pass range from 5 minutes to 3 hours for different attractions. Go figure??

Which makes sense if the computers for that attraction are keeping a log of how many have been given out for that attraction.
Take PP for example: I always grab one first thing when I hit the park cause of it's ridiculous wait times! Everyone else does the same thing cause no one wants to stand in that HOT line that wraps around the building to the ColumbiaHH. It is always up there w/ SM and Splash as being one of the first to run out of passes by sundown!

My guess is that on slow days they decrease the amount of time between fast pass. They're all tied into a computer system anyways. Maybe there's a Cast Member around here that'll confirm that.

One nice thing we learned a little too late last trip is you can use old fast passes, any time as long as it is after the time stated to enter.

We keep getting them for jungle cruise, then DD got tried and had to go back to the room for a nap. We missed the time twice. Then I talked to a cast member about it who said we could use them any time. Too bad we didn't have the old ones with us.

I think you might encounter some cast members who question you on this, but if you explain I think it should work (or at least worth a try.)

You are correct. The machines will automatically stop giving tickets out when there are no more available "slots". You just saw a cast member taking out the extra blank tickets that weren't printed on.

Once on Millionaire a guy had a hand full of fastpasses to give out. Do they do this a lot? :brick:

What the cast member is supposed to do is print out about 30 fastpasses when they know fastpass is about to close down. This way as soon as it closes you have extra fastpasses for any people who maybe didn't get enough tickets for their entire party because the machines shut down.

The new FastPass works like this:

The return time is based on the amount of FastPasses given out
After X amount of minutes, the time will increase by 5 min, so that is how you get one for much later in the day.

The time to get another one is a general time of 2 hours added on to the time you got your pass.

Last week I got 1 FastPass for ToT at 1:00, the return time wasn't until 5:00 but I could get another pass at 2:45.
I got a RnR FastPass at 3:00 it's return time was 4:00
So, I was able to use a later fast pass before the earlier one.

On a side note:

Does any CM's or anyone else know if it is really wrong to "magically" give yourself FastPasses?
(As long as you don't over use it)

I think the rule is you can get another fastpass either after your first expires or after 2 hours from getting your first fastpass, whatever comes first. Sometimes, this doesn't always hold though. But don't worry, the "new" fastpasses have the exact time that you can get another fastpass stamped right on it, so you don't have to think about it.

Nope, I don't think that is the rule. We've held two fastpasses to two different attractions, the returns times had not come up yet, and it had not been two hours. The attractions were Philharmagic and Pooh. We've done this a few other times too, with different attractions. It was an extremely busy aftermoon too, maybe that had something to do with it.

The Philharmagic Fastpass still has some work that needs to be done to it. the times are always outta wack to me, compared to other attractions

I do not believe it's "wrong", but it this treads on the fair/unfair line. I personally do not get a FastPass "magically" except to bring home as a souvenir. I've known about it for almost two years, how about everyone else?

Also, I thought the rule on FastPasses was that if your return time was within 2 hours, you could get another FP at the end of that window, and if the return window was beyond 2 hours, that you could get another one in 1 hour?

It's all so confusing.... :brick:

Hypothetical question...

Could I use my room key during my stay AND my annual pass to get fastpasses at the attractions??:drevil:

...and add this dismaying observation!...
could I go so far as to use...say...a MVMCP ticket the night of the event WITH my room key AND my annual pass??Hmmmm??

Remember, the machines will process all three types for passes!

Good try....but it won't work. You have to use the ticket that you scanned in the turnstyles that day.

:lookaroun I always thought you could get another fastpss one hour after the time you got the original one? Not the time of your return? I think the ones we got last time gave us an earlier time to get the next one than it used to.

Philamagic fast past was only good for a 15 min. time period say 3:00 - 3:15. I asked a CM about it and she said she thought it was because the show was so short-- and the line moved so fast?? weird! :veryconfu ?????
