This illustrates one of my biggest complaints about Disney costume design. It's so flat! That shirt is supposed to represent something that is a composition of layers, but it has none of that dimensionality. It's like a tuxedo t-shirt. No matter how well fitted, how fine of textiles used or how perfectly crafted, it will never look quite right. I understand that the weather is an issue, but a true attention to detail would seek out solutions other than a flattened look like a cheap Halloween costume would utilize.I Agree I don't think they are the best offering for Cm costumes, also like you have stated there are some really good cm costumes that don't look cheap.

It's a stage costume...no more no less. They are cast members playing a part on stage....if you look too closely you will see the stagecraft.
It's a stage costume we can see up close and thus needs to be adapted for such an interaction. Even in a stage production a costume that will be out amongst the audience will be treated differently than one that stays in the background. Would the costumes for The Haunted Mansion be so iconic if they were a single shirt instead of actual layers?
How many people have seen a Circus Ringmaster up close to really know the difference?

If you think that's something, you should see the men's costume in the forest area of Fantasyland. Much lower cut and undershirts are optional.
How can Disney say that is a no no? Surely they don't expect all guys to shave their chest in that heat.

They actually look pretty well made as I'm certain they are as they will get a lot of use and abuse with daily washings.
