Yikes! It looks like a Fairfield Inn...no, actually I think they might be a little more interesting looking than this.
So cold and cheap looking...you could be in any hotel anywhere....Certainly looks neither Luxe or unique...
To be fair to them, the old rooms looked like any old hotel room as well, they are meeting the expectations they previously set.

Now to say something nice… I like the architecture of the buildings. And the incorporation of fountains. And most of the restaurants.

This looks so bland and dull. One day we are going to look back at all this removal of whimsy from these resorts and this look became way more dated faster than they ever thought I was going to be

Actually the old rooms had custom art, wallpaper and carpets...the really old rooms were designed by Michael Graves and were trikingly unusual in his signature style. I love the original intent of the Graves architecture... His post-modernist style was instantly recognizable... Things change, and I understand how it would seem dated to keep it as it was... I would have loved to have seen them not discard the pedigree of the architecture, but modernize look without losing the connection to the unique hotel it has always been... This modern room looks completely plain and uninspiring...and most of all, it looks cheap...not the "luxe" style they are going for at all...

It already feels like a style that will be oh so "10 minutes ago" by the time they finish the remodel....We have certainly already seen it enough...

I stand corrected. Thank you for the information, I did not know that. We were there last December and I don’t remember anything particularly notable other than the AC issue, I agree though, I don’t like the trend towards blandness and sterility.

What gets me is it looks like they are keeping some of the furniture (table by the window, possibly the TV stand, etc). That’s tacky IMO.

Having stayed in a Fairfield Inn last week, I can say this is somehow even more bland.

You know what's funny?
I was going to ask - Disney isn't making calls in this decision, right? Really just a general gutting of anything unique and whimsical across the industry.
Marriott doesn’t own these hotels. They just operate them. So I assume design choices are up to ownership, in consultation with Marriott (given they likely need to meet certain standards being part of Marriott).
