Interesting fact: my college was in the ballroom scene in True Lies. But Newport has fascinating history. I'm a history geek and the revolutionary war is the best period. Ghost, murder (Emery's). Mansions. We used a ouji (sp?) board in university and talked to the ghosts. Newport is a good day trip. Not a lot to do other than the above. Boston is where it at though.

And if you are in Boston you could always stop at Wahlburgers......Mark Wahlberg and brother's restaurant. Maybe we'll see you on tv...:hilarious: A&E new series. Just say ad.

and Fenway Park!!!
the Sox are actually in town and I have never been to any Major League game, but I don't think anyone in our group but me will care. :arghh:

Speaking of Boston, are there any outlying areas with easy access to downtown Boston where I don't have to pay a gazillion dollars for a hotel room?

Actually Providence is only an hour away, so anything between here and there will be cheaper. I'd recommend taking the train (the "T") in to the city rather than trying to drive or park there.
Right now, it looks like we'll be doing Portland->Boston->Newport. Portland is supposedly a two hour drive from Boston, so we'll leave Portland in the morning, do Boston stuff that day, lodge somewhere in the Bostonish area and then do Boston stuff most of the next day before driving to a hotel room in Newport or Providence for that night; we'll do the Servants' Life tour the next day.

Is Medford not a terrible place to be? They seem to meet me about halfway between what I want to pay and what I'd pay downtown. :D
