I read this article on , and it seemed interesting. It said there was a new blue vehicle at Ellen's Energy Adventure. Sounds interesting, especially because Test Track got new blue vehicles before it's upgrade as well.

It would seem extremely odd that they'd invest money in new ride vehicles for that attraction.

The idea that the plastic shells cannot be exposed to sunlight is laughable. Were they made there? Where was the spare, and how did it get in?

Yeah, I'm with you. I'm a tiny bit familiar with molded polymers and plastics, and sure, EXTREME heat can cause them to deform (look what happened to the vinyl siding on my house when I forgot to grill my steaks away from the wall). But natural light isn't kryptonite for any Disney ride vehicle.

Could it be something as simple as the spare has always been a different color and they just needed to take one out for repair work?

Indeed. They were actually tested in the outdoor parking lot. In full sun.

From what I know car #13 has been cannibalised for parts over the years, hence when one goes down they have to run a five pack with no working spare to plug the gap.

I'm not trying to be contrarian, but months or years of aging in natural sunlight can cause a problem for a wide variety of polymers. (My company makes thermoset resins used for a variety of applications. Some, like exterior automotive panels, obviously are extremely UV resistant. Some are not.)

So does this mean they are going to change the show as well?

I'm thinking that...if we see a second blue vehicle added...that there is a change in the works. It's time for an Elllen update within the next couple of years.

However, what makes me sad is I don't think there is a return of the rotating screens.

The kinetic panels and mechanics should still be in place under the current preshow screen. It could be brought back if Epcot management wanted. The new car does indeed look like a new shell. That said, new shells for the show vehicles doesn't necessarily mean a show update. It could just be a maintenance item.

Looks nice :) I like this ride. I like the upgrade. A new film with the current Ellen would be nice too.

Isn't this blue the original colo(u)r? Possibly, they didn't redo the 'spare parts' car#13 during the makeover into Ellen. There was not much left of it anyway, a loose collection of parts and plastic shells. Maybe they plundered this car#13 for spare parts again - this time, it's plastic coverings.

Or perhaps Stupid Judy ate too much Activia and messed up one of the cars.

I do have to say the ride is in a major need of an update, if I was Ellen I would be demanding that the AA of her be fixed up, its pretty rough looking. But my favorite part is Stupid Judy, Stupid Energy. I work with a Judy and its all I can do sometimes to not call her Stupid Judy :goodnevil
