New characters for Star Wars Weekends

Actually just finished watching the whole Clone Wars series. Never saw it until a month or so ago when it went on Netflix. Actually really liked it, and would recommend to any fellow Star Wars fan!

There are some story arcs I didn't care for, but as a whole it's really, really good.

I'm hugely disappointed that we weren't allowed to see what happened with Asohka, Rex and Asaaj. I have a feeling they may be holding onto them for later, but they have been set up to be cornerstones of the rebellion. I would have loved to have seen Rebels center around those three characters.

Unfortunately, it looks like Rebels may be for a younger audience and a little goofier than The Clone Wars. I'm VERY concerned. They never should've ended The Clone Wars series like they did.

Your loss. There's been some good stuff- Knights of the Old Republic immediately comes to mind.
Yes! If there is one piece of the EU that I would like them to work into a movie and make canon, its KOTOR. Its by far my favorite star wars story outside of the original trilogy.

No. The EU no longer exists.

They're characters from the new animated show Rebels that premiers later this year.

The EU exists. There will still be SW novels and games coming out. What they said was the post-ROTJ stuff is out completely but everything from the EU can still be used and stuff like KOTOR and Shadows of the Empire is still there as a "vague history". Basically everything is still canon unless something new contradicts it.

Excuse my ignorance about the EU. But wasn't that alwys true?

I was actually ok with where they left Ahsoka. Even though the show was cut short they still managed to give her a pretty good final story. I think there is the potential that some of the characters could show up in Rebels.

I share you concern about Rebels, it does appear that they are aiming at a younger audience, but I also trust the creative team since it's pretty much the same people who did Clone Wars.

Yea but they recently re-clarified it. Supposedly now there is an Official canon/story department in place to make sure everything is consistent moving forward (starting with the new wave of novels and cartoon series in September) but I really doubt five or ten years from now if some filmmaker wants to do something that contradicts a comic, novel or cartoon that it's going to prevent them from going forward.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I love, love, love how they ended the series with Asohka leaving the Jedi Order. To me it was the perfect way to end the series.

But I'm ready to see the rest of the story now. The Clone Wars setup for Ep3, but now I want to see those characters (Asohka, Rex, Asaaj) kick some bootie in the pre- A New Hope time period. I want to see them active in the birth of the Rebellion and how they fit in with it.

As for the creative team from Clone Wars being involved in Rebels, sadly only Dave Filoni remains. The entire rest of the team, including the voice actors, were let go.

I never had any use for the EU. I just consider it all to be fan fiction. More power to those who enjoyed it, but I just found it all to be pretty irrelevant.

Well, some of those folks are veteran voice actors, so there's a good chance we'll see Corey Burton or James Arnold Taylor in supporting roles or guest spots.

Like with anything, there were really great stories in the EU and also really horrendous stuff. The early 90s Star Wars novels, games, and comics in particular were good and are still remembered fondly but I would say a good 90% of the EU content from the past decade has been really bad so a house cleaning was definitely in order.

Yes, they did replace the voice talent, but besides Dave they have also brought back a good number of the production staff. They have composer Kevin Kiner, art director Killian Plunkett, episode director Stewart Lee, effects supervisor Joel Aron, animation supervisor Keith Kellogg, writer Katie Lucas, among others.

Yeah, it's hard to find a recent animation project that Corey wasn't involved in and he has a long history working with Disney, so they will likely tap into him at some point.

Especially if Rebels gets closer to the first movie and they introduce younger versions of the characters from those films. Both Burton and Taylor are some of the various go-to guys for being sound-alikes when you can't get the original actors.

I really loved The Clone Wars some of the stuff they had planned going forward would have been jaw dropping. At least next week Darth Maul Son of Dathomir comes out in comic book form from TCW scripts. Not really excited about Rebels wish they would have let TCW finish and flow through ROTS and naturally flow into Rebels. The Clone Wars actors are all a lot of fun to meet Tom Kane when signing my pic talked to me as Yoda and even if you're not a Star Wars fan James Arnold Taylor's show on voice acting is amazing.

ok yea i was about to say that the eu is null and void as far as canon goes. its the 6 movies and clone wars tv show. personally im glad ep vii wiil be original content. 99% of the eu stuff was garbage. and for the record we know absolutely no plot points for the new movie at this point correct? every so often people "leak" plot stuff about eu characters and it drives me bonkers lol
