New Button Designs on the way

In the spirit of being overly PC... :cautious:;) HEA is so insensitive to the Happily Single and Recently Divorced guests, not to mention guests with big ears.

Seriously, they could keep the old buttons and offer the HEA buttons for same-sex couples or partnerships. Or even offer the same variety of engaged, just married, anniversary buttons either with characters or the mickey ears like the HEA button. Offering a "generic" button is like dumbing down to the lowest common denominator. Now THAT is offensive...:confused:
"Don't offend anybody" quickly degrades to "don't celebrate anything." When did Disney hire the PC Principal?

IMHO, being inclusive is not "pc", rather it's being human and respectful to all folks.

Thank you! I think Disney should be applauded for opening up the badges to more people, rather than restricting them. It's not that they've taken the badges away completely - they've just found a way to ensure that all people who are married/engaged/celebrating anniversaries can wear the same badge. It confuses me why people get uptight about this.

I don't want to wear the same badge. I want something more meaningful to me. DW and I really appreciated CMs wishing us a Happy Anniversary when they saw our buttons. So, yes, Disney has taken away something that used to be more meaningful. Happy Ever After is just stupid, IMHO.

Like I posted earlier, I would prefer that Disney just offer a different picture, but keep the engaged, anniversary, just married text as an option for same-sex couples.

Would it be an issue then if they retained the mickey bands but had three versions - 'We're Engaged', 'Just Married' and 'Wedding Anniversary'? The issue therefore isn't that they are being 'PC' - it's that they amalgamated the three celebrations into one. I just have a problem with people whining about PC'ness - when actually it's a lovely thing for same-sex couples to be included alongside everyone else..

My partner and I are travelling to WDW in September and this trip will be in part for the 10th anniversary of our civil partnership. I would have worn a happy anniversary badge for at least part of our trip, except for the fact it has Mickey and Minnie on it and I don't want to be asked which one of us is "Minnie". I don't expect Disney to offer a badge with two male (or two female) characters on each badge, but it would be nice to have a happy anniversary button as I agree that Happily Ever After is a bit vague and sounds more like a honeymoon thing.

Disney isn't being PC. You can all just go take those sticks out of your backsides right now. Talk about people finding something to get offended about. Personally, if it is this big of an "issue" (which its not), they should just take them ALL away.

Never underestimate the fury of the SJW's

In the graphic posted all the new badges say Disneyland, so I assume the WDW ones will have Walt DisneyWorld.

More likely 'Disney Parks' that means TWDC can achieve 'economies of scale' a single button design for BOTH coasts.

I do love the 'DisneyLand' merchandise at WDW though....

The Mickey/Minnie means more to me, as my wife and I had shirts made for that anniversary trip which go with the pins. Mine says "I'll be your Mickey", hers says "I'll be your Minnie".

My opinion (and we probably should leave it at this so that the moderators don't need to step in...) is that it would be better for Disney to offer guests a choice of buttons - some with the Mickey bands, others with the Mickey/Minnie, and with the same Engaged, Just Married, Anniversary texts. IMHO, that's better than a one size fits all approach. Again, just my opinion, but trying to have a one size fits all just seems to be a politically correct easy approach to try not to offend, and not really caring about anyone in particular.

I guess they can't please everyone, but to me having a solution that is inclusive is a good step forward. Sorry it's taken some of the meaning away from you and your wife, but I hope you understand it means a lot to us couples who have been excluded until now.

Indeed probably best to just agree to disagree on this.

The correct thing would of course to create a series of buttons for LGBT guests.

When my fiance and I planned a trip...well at the time of planning he had no idea he'd be my fiance, until one evening at Epcot on the illuminations cruise I presented the ring...But anyway, I had my dad photoshop the existing button into something that would fit our needs... needless to say... it was a massive hit with all the castmembers, including a few managements folks.

Do yourself a favor and just make your own! It's way more fun and the buttons make great christmas tree ornaments.
