New Attaction for HKDL?

Here's an update on the Cars autopia ride at HKDL.

Speaking of "Cars" ... In a recent JHM column, I talked about how the characters from "Cars" were initially supposed to be folded into Hong Kong Disneyland's "Autopia" attraction. But now -- thanks to the way this Tomorrowland favorite is being rushed into HKDL -- that proposed "Cars" tie-in appears to have been gone by the wayside.

Well, one Imagineering insider recently wrote to me to tell me that I may have missed the really big news about Hong Kong Disneyland's "Autopia." Which is:

This is going to be the first all-electric version of "Autopia." So no more nasty gas fumes. Plus -- for the first time ever -- these cars will have proximity sensors built into them. So that Hong Kong Disneyland guests will never be able to experience the joy of being rammed from behind by some 8-year-old who's never driven a car before.

That's the aspect of Hong Kong Disneyland's "Autopia" that the ops staff at Disneyland and WDW's Magic Kingdom are most excited about. Not the proposed "Car" overlay. But new "Autopia" vehicles that are enviromentally friendly and significantly safer than the ones we run in the stateside parks right now. Just the idea that all of those nuisance "Autopia" lawsuits would possibly go away forever has Disney's attorneys pushing to have the all-electric version of this Tomorrowland attraction installed at the stateside theme parks as soon as possible.

I'm probably going to get a lot of flak for this.
But I'm really tired of Autopia. It's such a waste of space.
I guess it's a relatively inexpensive attraction. But IMHO boring.
"Oooo I'm driving a car"
Even a cool one like DLP's is lame (and never opened)
If people are affraid the kiddies will miss it put in a JR. Autopia that will take up less space.
Again just my opinion.

Eh, you can add me to the anti-autopia group. I mean I understand why it's there, but it takes up so much room. And really, I would gladly sacrifice it for two E ticket attractions.

wait.. DLP was to have one... I thought it was never in the plans.. I was sure DLHK would have one in the future... (noo... a proximity censor... wait im able to drive real cars now... heheh :lookaroun (the only fun part was hitting your older or yo0unger sibling in front of you in 2 spots back in the early 90s.. however i have learned it is wrong... so i am Yay for the proximity sensor and Love electric cars...)

Yeah, the HKDL version is going to be different from previous incarnations.

Guess the Chinese won't have the joy of inflicting spinal injury on other guests.
