new airport security and magical express

We're going next week to WDW, and I was wondering if we could just not put the ME tag on 1 piece of our checked luggage, pick it up at baggage and bring it on the ME bus? We'll really need DDs contact lens stuff, and sunscreen, among other items.

That sounds like the logical thing to do!

You guys think you have problems!

Try a 9 hour flight from the UK and all you can take on is a wallet, your passport and tickets and glasses!

As of this moment I won't even be allowed to take a newspaper or book, even if it is purchased at the airports own secure side shops!

No water bottles either, which I'm bummed about, I usually drink 2-3 litres on a transatlantic flight. I just hope they have plenty of water onboard.

The worst is going to be keeping the kids happy without their books, toys and games.

I know that it's the price we're paying for security and I don't want to get all political, but in a way the terrorists are winning because we are having to make these (small) sacrafices.

Just found out also that online checkin has been suspended until further notice which means joining a 400 strong queue to checkin, instead of just checking out luggage. :(

This will all adjust over time - although I think the liquids will be a permanent change in items no longer allowed on board -- frankly, I can't believe it has taken them this long to do that. Don't expect the UK ban on carryons to last for much longer -- that is all emergency reactionary stuff -- and in reality, only UK flights are affected right now. FLying to and from any other country from the US is not affected by any carry on limitations other than those already in place plus the new liquid ban.

Here in the US, service is back to normal today - and there is no ban on carry on items other than liquids in addition to sharp objects, lighters, etc.

To the poster a few items above -- yes, you can absoltuely check one bag through on DME while picking up another one at the airport -- just make sure you don't put your DME tags on any bag you are personally picking up.

Not old, just vintage.

I am also going next week. I have never allowed DME to pick up my bags and deliver it again after the first time I used the service. We didnt see our luggae for 8 hours after we landed. I know that isnt the norm, but i never wanna go through that again. Just dont put the luggage tags on your bags and you can pick it up yourself and put it on the bus with you. Thats what I (and I imagine a ton of other people will be doing). See ya in the parks!!!
