I imagine this is exactly what happened.

And the cubicle dweller in the USA responsible for this product line doesn't care enough to read what that guy in Communist China wrote on their new $500 jacket.

Because they laid off... relocated the jobs of the ones who gave a damn and knew to check the fine print. And despite your disregard for cubicle dwellers, plenty of them loved the jobs they were forced out of and would catch this stuff day in and day out and get it corrected before it was produced. And now they're unemployed while Disney releases $500 Prinston jackets.
