Going to WDW for the first time. I'm going on my honeymoon and we are staying at the Carribean Beach Resort. I just wanted to know what everyone thought of the CBR. (Honestly) Do we need a car or is transportation good enough? Is there any night transportation since I understand there is nothing close to the CBR? Also, where should we eat? Thanks

I haven't stayed at the CBR in a long time but I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. I think it is nice. The bus service was good and the last time I went there my son was 9 months old. It's not the most romantic although I am partial to the Poly for the beach and the patio are nice to sit out at nite and listen to the water and soak in the atmosphere.

Forgot the grub part. Try the Hoop de Doo if you can. Prime Time cafe is cool at MGM as well as Brown Derby. At Epcot the restaurants in world Showcase are nice and at Magic Kingdom, try the Castle. I heard the place in Wilderness Lodge is nice. and everyone likes Rainforest Cafe.
When is your honeymoon?
Hope you come back from WDW a fan like we all are!
and remember.......trip report when you get back. It's neat to hear about a first timers take on one of the most magical places on Earth.

Thanks

I'll definitely give you a trip report. We are really looking forward to it. We are leaving this Sunday. All we know is when our plane leaves and where we are staying. Everything else is up in the air I guess.

Carribean Beach is one of my favorite Disney resorts...you cant go wrong with it! :)

A car is not necessary unless you planned on leaving the property to got to Universal etc...

There is night time transportation to Pleasure Island and Downtown Disney...and to the parks just past there closing times.

As for restaurants, there are tons of them! lol World Showcase alone could fill your honeymoon up with great eating experiences as well as Downtown Disney.

I hope I could be of some help. :)

The Caribbean Beach food court is one of my favs in the world...you definately have pleanty o' grub there. :D

I wouldnt worry about Universal at all! lol You'll have pleanty to do at WDW. I didnt mean to make ya think that it's a must see attraction or anything b/c in my opinion it's not. I just wanted to make sure you were aware that if you were visiting that or other attractions outside the world you would need a car. :)

WDW's transportation is excellent, however, having a car is useful not only to leave Disney Property but sometimes for not completely depend on Disney's transport. Maybe you leave fast to go to Typhoon Lagoon, and the bus isn't coming until half and hour , so you grab the car and just go, later when TL closes you can drive to Downtown Disney to complete the day.
The car is a good tool whenever you wish to dine somewhere else at night, for example at Chef Mickey's at the Disney Contemporary Resort, or in the California Grill since it's perfect for couples, or in other resorts which you are curious about and wish to visit at night.

My wife and I also honeymooned at WDW and we had a great time. I strongly recommend you buy Disney World for Adults and read it on the plane trip there:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/A...8541/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_15_2/102-3469534-1017758

It really helped us on our trip.

Every WDW resort has restaurants in it. Some will have food courts, others will have a really nice restaurant, a middle of the road (pricewise) restaurant, and a snack bar. The restaurants usually fall in line with the rersort. For example, value resorts will have a food court, whereas premium resorts will have at least one high end restaurant (as well as the snack bar etc mentioned above.)

In addition to the restaurants in the resorts, each of the parks has several restaurants. Again, there are expensive restaurants, and there are fast food places in the parks.

If WDW is crowded when you are there, you will most likely need reservations in order to eat at a sit down restaurant at the prime times (lunch, dinner). We usually make our reservations a day in advance, but during peak season, you may need to plan your meals farther in advance. Downtown Disney also has a bunch of restaurants.

We ususally eat breakfast at our resort, lunch in the parks, and dinner at another resort, or in the parks if they are open late enough.

If you have never been to WDW before, be ready for some sticker shock. 2 burgers, 2 cokes, and 2 fries will run you about $15.00. The book I mentioned above lists the price range of each of the restaurants in WDW (parks and resorts).

I've always found Disney bus transportation to be adequate and have never rented a car. Buses run every 20 minutes or so. So, if you rely on Disney buses, changing parks at a non-peak time will take about 30-45 minutes (plus or minus depending on how your bus karma is that day.) If you have your own car, you can probably change parks faster (especially right after a particlualr park closes.) So, it is a trade off of time versus the cost of a rental car.

I've never been stuck somewhere without a bus to eventually get me back to my resort. But if that did happen, you can always catch a cab.

As for where to eat, I've never really had a bad meal in WDW. If you do, ask to see the manager and he/she will make it right. Since this is a special occasion for you, I recommend at least one meal at Cinderella's Royal Table in the Castle in the Magic Kingdom. It is kind of pricey (the lunch menu is a little cheaper which is what we usually do) but it is worthe experiencing at least once.

Good luck and have fun!

Thanks for the good tips. There are so many decisions to choose from, I almost want someone else to just tell me what to do. I have one book already, I can't remember the name of it. It dosen't give prices, but it rates how expensive each restaraunt is compared to each other. I'll definitely keep Cinderalla's Royal Table in mind.

I've stayed at the Caribbean. It is nice but trully the rooms are almost the same as the All Star just a little different. They have some cool beaches and stuff but the bus stops are far away so I think the car might come in handy because when you ride the bus you have to stop at several different sights. The pool and stuff is cool but you have to take a bus to get to it unless you have a car and are good with maps. And who ever has the Mr. Bingle icon ROCK ON!!!!::sohappy: :sohappy: :sohappy:

CBR/need for car?

Feelhog -

Congrats and all best wishes on your engagement. I'm sure you'll find the CBR to be a great place to stay. I do think that you might want a rental car. They aren't expensive in Orlando (though beware the surcharges!) and are especially convenient for travel to the Water Parks and other resorts (check out excellent restaurants at Wilderness Lodge - Artist's Point, mentioned before or the Concourse Steakhouse or California Grill at the Contemporary).

If you'll be at WDW for more than a couple days, consider getting the all-in-one pass with your room, and weather permitting plan on a good half day at Typhoon Lagoon (preferable) or Blizzard Beach (also excellent).

Now the disclaimer. I haven't stayed at the CBR myself, but friends have, plus I've checked out the food courts and pool.
