My IE is shutting down with a fatal error on some websites. For example, I get shut down if I visit foxnews.com, sixflags.com, and other random sites.

The message that comes up lists the file mshtml.dll.

Does anyone know why this is happening and what can I do to correct the problem?

What are you doing on sixflags.com?!

I read earlier that because of a virus attack some places (like Yahoo, among others) were having trouble staying online.
Maybe this is your problem.

Busted!!! I was looking for the cost of a season ticket in case we ever get reasonably close to a SF park since my son is so enamored with them.

I am going to assume that you are using Windows 98 or Windows ME. Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Internet Explorer version 5.5 for Windows Millennium Edition. You need to download a new version of IE here:

:brick: :brick: :brick: Thanks, Woody. Exactly what I needed, but BOTH of the sites that I can download it from crashes my IE with my problem. I'll make a hard copy and install it from there. I really do appreciate the info.

Glad to hear back from you! You didn't say what version of Windows you are using. If you have Windows ME, then you can download and use IE version 6. Glad that I could help. :)

Yes, I'm using ME. I'll go to my neighbor's house and download a copy of IE 6. Thanks again!

Well, that would be what's causing the problem
Go figure......it was the greatest thing since sliced bread when it came out; you know, we'll solve world peace with ME. Just another pain in the buttocks.

Hope it works out for you. We used ME for just a few months before we switched to XP...hated it!

*random thought* let peace begin with ME....

That sounds like a song.....

"Let there be peace on earth
and let it begin with ME..."

Do you think Bill Gates is looking for world domination subliminally with his Windows version and that song? :lookaroun

I'll crawl back under my rock now.

Sounds good. After you install the new IE 6, be sure to go to Windows Update and check for critical and security updates.

Now that we have Windows ME, we no longewr have to worry about world peace ever bothering us again!

No.

I think it's pretty blatant, not subliminal.
