After finally nailing down when we want to go on our vacation, for how long and where we want to stay. My next big question, naturally, is where we will eat. We are going with the dining plan and staying for five nights. This gives us five sit-down meals to choose from, if my understanding of this dining plan is correct.
I have been reading menues and going over menus with my husband. It will be just the two of us and we both enjoy good food with a flare for fun.
We have decided that the places we most want to hit are:
Epcot: Le Cellier (for more appealing menu items than I can name)
MGM: 50s Prime Time (for the fun atmosphere and the smores dessert)
AK: Since there are no sit-downs here, we thought an evening at Oahna would be a nice treat and a way to steal a few glances at the Poly.

We are torn with our other choices. There are no restaurants in MK that really scream out to us. Liberty Tree dinner is perhaps what we would be most interested in. I really want to make the most out of a day and MK. Would it take too much time to leave the park, go to one of the MK area resorts, and still be able to return for fireworks and a few more rides? Is there some really good MK dining option that I am missing. Are there ANY fine dining options?

For our fifth and final sit-down, we were thinking of using it on the first night we arrive. We decided not to go to one of the parks that day and spend the afternoon at our resort and downtown disney and an evening on PI. We are torn with where to eat this night. What is the best DD disney dining spot, that is part of the dining plan. Are there any must-see resort restaurant we should do on our first night.
I know I am asking for a lot of answers here.

Thank you for taking the time to read all this.

Some of the restaurants we have been interested in but are not sure of are:
Boma, Whispering Canyon, Wolfgang Puck Cafe, Raglan Road (Sp?).

We are hoping to get as much as we can out of the dining plan. This is my second trip to disney but first rip staying on property. This will be my husbands first ever trip to the world.

Liberty Tree is definitely worth it!

I ate at Wolfgang Puck's Cafe last trip. Crab cakes, Filet Mignon and a Pumpkin Cheese cake for dessert - :slurp:

That meal sounds right up my ally. It is on the dining plan, right?!

We enjoy going to Boma and exploring the AK Lodge. The buffet offers a great variety of different foods.

My husband is more adventurous than I am. Nothing he could eat, ever, would be spicy enough for him. I enjoy good food, but tend to play it more safe. I enjoy good, coplex flavors, but am a little spice sensative. I have read over the menus but am not sure what most of the items are (however ashamed I am to admitt it).

Yes Ma'am!

When I originally booked, I thought there were restrictions at Puck's, but apparently only at the upstairs main restaurant, Cafe lets you have anything on the menu. [well, within the one appetizer, one entree and one dessert limit]

It was great!

About the free dining plan...
Is it pretty much the dining plan that is offered through magic-your-way, but free. I guess I don't understand. The regular dining plan is still available at an extra charge right. We are going the last week in November.
I was just assuming the dining option add-on would still be available then. Is this the case and the FREE dining plan something different?

SInce it's Nov it won't be offered for free. It's still available as a add on at a cost.

To answer the question: to fill the parks in Aug and Sept they are offering Free Magic Your Way Plus Dinning. Same thing you would normally pay $35 per person for.

Because I'm a big fan of the area, I'd suggest the Yacht Club Galley at (obviously) the Yacht Club or Spoodles at the Boardwalk

If you really want to go to Downtown Disney, I'd suggest the Wolfgang Puck Cafe. I've never been but the menu looks great and I've heard very good things.

Also: On your MGM day, I'd suggest the Sci-Fi Dine-In over Primetime. You can't beat the atmosphere, and their milkshakes are god-like :D

It was a toss up between the two restaurants....we read many reviews that the food at the sci-fi was far less than par. Is this the case. My hubby is a lover of soul food. The fried chicken at primetime really spoke to him and the smores to me. Does the atmosphere at sci-fi make up for the lackluster food? We might have to reconsider.

Can anyone tell me anything about Boatwrights? The menu looks pretty interesting. It sounds like it would certainly fill my hubby's southern, cajun, soul food hunger...

Also, does anyone know if the garden grill stil has the chocolate fondue dessert. I have seen menus mention it and others not. The most recent menu said they served a dessert sampler after the meal.
Thanks again for all the help.

I have come away from the Sci-Fi disappointed every. single. time. Just not worth it, IMHO (and I love the food at WDW)

And to answer your question about the desserts at the Garden Grill - yes, it's now a sampler, but it's really good!!! :slurp:

Re: Boma - the stuff on the buffet is not, I'll repeat, NOT "spicy". They use some really cool spices, but (to quote Rachael Ray), most of the spices add flavour, not heat!!! (and they warn you if something is spicy!) Even though you may consider yourself to be picky, you will find some amazing choices there! DH and I love it for the sheer variety and freshness factor. Plus, you get to see the AKL - beautiful resort, very cool setting. :)

Re: fine dining in the MK - Although I like Tony's and the LTT, my suggestion to you would be to go to Ohana that night, and to go to Boma on the night that you have set aside for the Animal Kingdom. Those are our two favourite buffet-style restaurants in the World.

Since you are considering Whispering Canyon, I would definitely recommend it. It is actually one of my favorites in all of WDW. It's a good one to do on your MK day since you can take a boat directly over to the WL.

It is very family oriented and it does get loud--don't know if that would matter or not. Artist's Point is also good (quieter and more romantic) and is at the WL as well.

Why not go to Boma while at AK, it's a 5min bus trip. Go to O'hana's another night. Since it's just the 2 of you I'd stay away from the character meals. Also Raglan Road isn't on the Plan(unless they just added it). Sci-Fi creeped me out, I found it hard to relax.

I would highly recommend Whispering Canyon as well. My DH and I went there in January, our fist time at WC, and we loved it! Since you mentioned you had a flare for fun, this is the restaurant for you in my opinion. The servers are a hoot and will keep you plenty entertained while dining there. Don't be surprised if you do the Hokey Pokey in the middle of your meal. The food was excellant as well. They have an all-you-can-eat BBQ skillet. My DH had that and loved it. I had a cajun pasta that was wonderful. Lots of food though so be sure to go hungry! You can not be afraid of a little public humiliation if you go there though. But seeing that you are going with Primetime already, that shouldn't be an issue. If you do decide to go to Whispering Canyon....don't forget to ask for ketchup!!

On your Magic Kingdom Day, why not take a quick monorail ride over to O'Hana at the Poly or the California Grill at the Contemporary for dinner???
Then after you eat, you can hop right back on the monorail to the Magic Kingdom for the evening!

If you want to stay in the park, the Liberty Tree Tavern is easily the best place to choose! :slurp:

Your Animal Kingdom Day would be the right time to catch the AKL bus over to the Lodge for dinner at BOMA!!

:)
