Need laptop and internet at Disney

Seems like you are making way to big of a deal about your laptop. You go through security, take it out of your bag, put in in a bin by itself and you are on your way. It really is that easy. If you do things right at the checkpoint you go right through.

Just carry it on, have done it many times in the past not to mention makes waiting for flights so much more fun as most airports have wifi these days even though some are determined to charge for it, I actually upload pictures of my last Disney trip sitting in MCO waiting for the flight.

I really wish I could just leave the $#*&!* thing home but when you are the boss email is a necessary lifeline to the office and customers. Why is it that so many people think being self employed is such a lark?

I am also self employed and am the owner of the business with a team depending on me; with my Droid X phone and my Gmail account I can do everything I need.

If I really needed a computer (not sure why I would), and my office manager was unable to assist, I would go to one of the resorts with a business center.

Yes, just bring your laptop on the plane in your carry on. Millions of people do it.

As far as internet access is concerned, I thought I read they have free wi-fi in some resort lobbies. Is this true?

been carrying on my laptop since I got it - just NOT worth the risk putting it in the hold as it was a relatively expensive bit of kit.

I carry my SLR, lenses and laptop through security all the time and have had no problems.

Monty, I don't know all the in's & out's but don't you have to "jailbreak" the iPhones to tether? I am clueless. LOL! Love my iPhone 4, tho. So glad you posted those pics in your report. I also took the plunge & bought my 1st Mac. I feel like I've arrived in the present day....finally! LOL!

I'm "grandfathered" with the unlimited data. Hubby is stuck with the 2GB. If there's a way for me to tether with my iPhone 4 I'd love to know about it. Gimme a holler if you have any tips. But be patient, I'm not a tech-minded gal.

:p

Yes and no on the tethering. There have been a few apps on the real app store that allowed you to do it, but the fact that you could do so was a hidden feature. The most well known one was a flashlight app.

As far as I know, none of these are available anymore.

Jailbreaking an iPhone is a painless process. If you have yet to upgrade to iOS 4.1, just go to jailbreakme.com, accept the pop ups, and once the phone reboots you're all set. Then you just go into cydia and download a tethering app.

Some resorts have wi-fi. Yes. However, it is not free. Its $10 an hour.

If all you need is email, you can get it in real time on your iPhone. No need for tethering, just a data plan.

Problem is... tiny keyboard + big fingers + 40 or so emails a day + suggested spelling = me losing my mind!!!

I do have a large data plan but honestly that tiny keyboard is fine for one or two emails but the large volume of them I deal with and the pain of "suggested" spelling would make me go crazy.

I type all my notes for TRs, email and forum posts while in travel mode on that keyboard and have gotten used to the suggested spelling [which you can turn off] stuff. I manage and I'm typing with toes!

I'm even getting quite adept at selecting blocks of text for bolding, etc... :D

If you have a good data plan and want to tether without switching plans. You can try the tools at http://help.benm.at he claims to have fixed some problems with tethering on AT&T, you can give it a try. No jailbreak required.
