I am planning trip with myself, wife and 6yr old son from 9/26 thru Oct. 1st. I have so far ps for the following. I have already booked with free meal plan also.

9/26 not sure when arriving probably late
9/27 epcot coral reef
9/28 mk liberty tavern dinner w/characters
9/29 ak breakfast with donald/mnsshp that night
9/30 mgm mama melrose fantasmic package
10/1 leaving sometime will have to leave whichever park by noon.

Would appreciate suggestions on what I have so far, but since with the free dining we have one more sit down meal, I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks for your advice.

I suggest O'hanas... They have fun with the kids there. They have 'coconut' races, where kids race around the room sweeping plastic coconuts with a small broom. They also did the limbo while we were there and kids got to shake those marraca like things that make noise..... The ambience is great there for adults too. Great food! And tons of it!

Heard whispering canyon cafe is fun.

I did not like Chef Mickeys, but your son is younger so he might. Food (except the prime rib) was yucky and buffet lines were not stocked, crowded and did not have an organized 'flow'.

Since you are having breakfast at AK, I would suggest Flaming Tree Bar-b-que for later in the day, at the same park. Their ribs are great. It is a counter meal. Cosmic Ray's, at MK, has a good selection for counter service. Trail's End, at FW, has a good buffet.

You seem to like themes, ie character dinning. Since you have a 6 year old

You may like 50 prime time instead of mama melrose.
Coral Reef is over rateed. .

If you have on more sit down...why not try a signature place which takes two sit downs. There is Yachmans which is a nice walk from Epcot.

counter MGM ABC is nice and Peco's in MK

Not old, just vintage.
I would recommend Whispering Canyon Cafe at Wilderness Lodge. It is a WHOLE lot of fun. Ask for ketchup. I think a 6 year old would love the place.

WL is close to MK so you might be able to have lunch there one day or before MNSSHP. They also serve breakfast so it might be a nice way to start off the last day.

Coral Reef is definetly overrated. Not worth it in my opinion. Mama Melroses is ok but you son might like 50's PrimeTime or Sci Fi better. Mama's is kind of boring. At MGM, Pizza Planet is a great way to go with Counter Service...especiall if your kids likes Toy Story.

I don't know how you are getting to WDW but I would recommend really trying to get to WDW as early in the day as possible. You will be happy you did. You could also get in one more full service dinner that way too.

I love food but the Coral Reef was horrible, very expensive. Had a party of eight and no one liked there meal. It really was the only stinker that I had planned. Your 6 year old might like the aquarium.

I've eaten at Mamma Melrose and the Liberty Tree Tavern. They were both OK. Neither left me saying that I've got to eat here again though. Being at Magic Kingdom though, Liberty Tree Tavern is probably one of the better places to eat there. Personally I'd recommend Brown Derby, Hollywood and Vine or 50's prime time Cafe over Mamma's, but it wasn't bad.

If you go to EPCOT, I would certainly stop and eat at World Showcase. Plenty of good resturaunts there.

I'd do the LTT w/ characters at 5:30 on the 29th (the night of MNSSHP) and do a resort restaurant on the 28th. If you're near MK I'd try Ohana or WCC. They're both fun.

I will chime in that, having just returned from WDW, our dinner at Coral Reef was among the worst food options we have had at Epcot in years -- you might do better with one of the other restaurants in Epcot that evening. The menu at CR is very limited, the food very bland, and the seafood dishes second rate to other places in WDW. That being said, it is indeed a pretty restaurant. If you want seafood, go to one of the seafood restaurants in downtown disney. If you want to stay in Epcot, try le Cellier, or Alfredos. You will find the meals to be excellent, and they will treat your 6-year old like gold.

Change Coral Reef to LeCellier in Canada at Epcot as soon as you can get to a phone. Or, if you booked with Kingdom Konsultants, just send an email. That's one of the best benefits of going with them.
Ask for the earliest seating possible for dinner on the same day as your Coral Reef reservation now. Even if it seems early, like 4PM, take it. Just have a snack at lunchtime so you're hungry enough. We did LeCellier on the dining plan last year. You won't be sorry.

I completely agree with LaughingGravy that Coral Reef is WAY overrated. The food is really bland...not good at all :hurl: . LeCellier is a much better choice. The food is wonderful!:slurp:

Just to piggyback on what everyone else has already said, I would change the Coral Reef res. I was totally disappointed. The food was less than average and WAY overpriced. If you feel you must go there for the atmosphere, go for coffee and dessert or something and save your money for someplace else-but as an FYI-it isn't nearly as spacious as pictures would indicate and you will NOT get the table next to the tank like Danny Tanner did on Full House. :lookaroun

A "for instance" for you. I went with a friend and we both wanted salads. Our server suggested sharing one because of the size (which was very generous of her) and did we want blue cheese or lime vinaigrette dressing? Les wanted blue cheese (:hurl: :lookaroun ), I wanted lime vinaigrette. Can we get both? Sure! And then she charged us $6 for an extra dressing. $6! Do you know how many BOTTLES of dressing I could have gotten for $6?!

I did have a most delightful Key Lime Martini. :D

Totally agree, ditch Coral Reef ASAP. Le Cellier is fantastic.
