Need help with camera settings...

I've enjoyed reading your advice and checking out your pictures. I'm a real amateur that has a Sony DSC-w100. I had considered upgrading but have taken your advice to heart that an upgrade is not always the answer. However, I'm having a terrible time taking indoor (some low-light) pictures that are in focus. Not sure how to post examples and exif data but will try if needed. I have used the ISO auto function and played a little with the manual settings. Thanks for any advice.

Don't worry about posting examples....

First thing. Don't worry. Low light photos are pretty challenging but it's nothing you cant figure out.

First, try boosting the ISO. That camera can go up to ISO 1250 which should give you a shorter shutter speed.

That point and shoot (most in fact) has a variable aperture lens, meaning that when the lens is open wide as far as it can go, it lets in more light then when it is zoomed in all the way. So try to keep the lens open wider in low light and just move in closer.

Other than that, you're at the mercy of that camera. Doesn't look like there are any manual shooting modes at all. What i would try to do is to turn the ISO up and then shoot with the lens wide.

If its a focus issue - rather than just a camera shake/longer exposure then you want issue - that's not easily fixed. On most point and shoots, the focusing is at the mercy of the camera and hoping its focused where you want it.
