Need help planning a trip

I am planning a surprise trip for my cousins. They will be 9 and 10 years old. I am planning on taking them May 22-27. We are just going to get on a plane and see where it takes us. They have wanted to go to California for a couple of years now but because of their mother's illness I haven't been able to do it. The last time I was at Disneyland was last January. Can anyone tell me when the local schools get out? I am trying to plan my trip around that.

Schools normally get out the beginning or middle of June, so a May trip would be fine. Disneyland is crowded mainly on weekends. If you go in May you should be fine. You will also get to be part of the 50th celebration.

That is what I remember from my last trip is that it got very crowded on the weekend. That is why I am going from Sunday to Friday so that I can avoid that weekend crowd.
