Trip Report need an intervention

Went to WDW last wk, we spent 3 days there. Epcot, magic kingdom, & studios. We were thoroughly disappointed. About 5 yrs ago we stayed at animal kingdom resort & spent 5 days at the parks, we were a bit disillusioned then & had decided we probably wouldn't go back. But we went to the Eukanuba dog show & decided to go Sea world for a day, & Disney for a few while we there.
We stayed at double tree Hilton at Sea world, this is close to the convention center & close to everything else as well. This a nice hotel & allows pets, & with the dog show discount fairly reasonable.
First let me say we have always loved Disney & have been probably 8 or 9 times over the past 30 yrs. But the WDW I loved in the '80s & '90s no longer exists. I understand things change over time, I expect this. But in my opinion things have not changed for the better. Perhaps this is a side effect of growing older.
Some areas of the parks needed attention, such as repair or cleaning. The food is bad, I'm sorry but it's expensive & poor quality. I could understand if we were talking about basic burger & fries that were relatively cheap. But even in the sit down nicer restaurants the good was bad & even more expensive.
What I don't understand is after 40 yrs & millions of guests, they can't figure out how to provide decent food? $7.00 for a beer. Seriously? It was crowded when this was supposed to be one of the slower times of the yr. The cast members weren't particularly friendly. Couldn't get a reservation at my favorite restaurant. WDW now seems to have a unseemly greedy feel. I really think Walt would be disappointed in the blatant over commercialization of his dream.
We definitely won't be going to WDW again, unless things change drastically. Our next vacation will involve my Rubicon, our dog & some unpopulated scenic views, no lines, screaming kids or $7.00 beers.

Where else could I go & discuss my experience & have anyone remotely understand me being disheartened? Most people would not grasp how a full grown man could be sad about this. Clearly everyone here has an affinity for WDW, as I used to have. I am not the casual visitor, I still have every park brochure, pass, reciept & souvenir all the way back to 1981. I have Disneya from the '30s-'70s, some very rare. I was hoping someone here (like the first few responses) would understand. I used to plan for wks, no months, in advance in anticipation. I would even carry a WDW travel brochure around with me. When I said I envied you, I really do because I miss that feeling. But you are right since I don't plan on returning, there really is no reason to come this forum, so this will be my last post. I hope all of you continue to get as much joy from WDW as I used to.
Please stay. It would be sad if the vicious venom from one poster is succesful too and drives the new people away.

I enjoyed your OP and couldn't agree more, with all of it. :)

I think a number of us can say we at least share some of the disappointment that @Rubicon77 has expressed... especially if you experienced WDW in the 70s,80s, or 90s. I know I've been feeling a bit disenchanted with things of late for related reasons. I go in phases...

There are some people on here who have very negative opinions, others who are good with things as they are and are always on a total WDW high, and many who fall somewhere in the middle - to varying degrees of positive or negative feelings...sometimes even changing their opinions from time to time for any number of reasons. Ultimately, it's a forum and people are entitled to their personal opinions...even if not everyone shares them.

The beer I can't agree on, but that's b/c I was at a football game last night and had the options of $8,$10,$12 beer.

Also curious what kind of dog OP has :)

In my view, those who say they haven't seen a decline at WDW just haven't been going to WDW as long as some of the rest of us.

I love WDW. I do. But I agree with the OP that the changes throughout the last 20+ years haven't been for the better, and that Disney's emphasis on wresting every last dime from our wallets has become transparent and tacky. Oh, perhaps some of the changes that have been made are better for the Walt Disney corporation, but they certainly haven't improved the guest experience. I still love to go to WDW, but not because I think it's getting better or even preserving its quality. How could I think that, when there is less for me to do and explore at WDW every time I go? I still go because it hasn't slipped far enough [for me] yet that I've lost the joy in it. It's no longer spectacular, but it's "pretty good," and that suffices for one week out of every year or two. I genuinely enjoy planning our WDW vacations, and my family enjoys going. That doesn't mean I'm blind to the diminishing returns on my financial and emotional investment in WDW, however...

Just for the record my first trip was in 1979 and I was an adult then. Now there was a dissappointment. Swore I would never go again. When my Kids got old enough the wife said "We are goin." Sorry, but the food is even better now that it was a few yers ago. Just got back and had a wonderful Salmon salad at the ABC Commissary. Sandwiches were great at Norway. Had a great sit down meal at the UK. The place looked it great shape to me.
