so im looking for people who have taken a camper to WDW. in a nut shell I have an older 26 foot tow behind and I will be comming from boston MA.

I am assuming the camp site at fort wilderness are nice but i want to hear from you. we will be going in jan 2010 some time so the heat wont kill us in the camper in FL. we are planning on 3 days to get there since its a good tow and i dont want to push my truck that hard that far.

where do you guys stay on the way down? i was thinking just pull in at a truck stop and bunk down in the camper but not sure if they allow campers there and also i herd another thing that they are not very safe to stay there in the first place.

any advice?

You can stay in any Wal Mart parking lot. We always see trailers and motor homes parked at them. There is also a nice campground on the Georgia/Florida border (I think it is in Georgia) I can't remember the name of it, but it is on a lake, and it is beautiful. The Fort Wilderness campground is an awesome campground, have a great time!

We have been camping in Ft Wilderness since the early 70s and you will love it. I personally pulled a 32 ft Airstream down from Michigan 8 years ago. We stopped a few times in the parking lot of the Flying J gas stations as they have a parking area for trailers. The one's on I-75 are always clean and friendly. You can plan for this by going to their website at www.flyingj.com

If you have little ones with you make sure to take them to the free nightly movie and sing-a-long with chip and dale in the campground! And have a great time.

Like momofmine already stated Wal Mart allows motor homes and campers to stay overnight in their parking lots at no charge. You of course wont have any hook ups but if you have a generator and a water supply you should not need them for an overnight stay.

FW is on the pricey side when it comes to camping but it is incredibly beautiful and maintained in proper Disney fashion. There are several onsite activities you can participate in and one of the best and lowest price buffets on property is located there. You will want to bring either bikes or a golf cart (if you have access to one) to get around as the property is quite large.

We pulled at 26' down to FTW back in 2000, left approximately 9:30 p.m. drove most of the night thru after son's ball game, took quick 2 hour nap in rest area, arrived north Florida late afternoon/early evening. Stayed in a very nice campground-only campers there, within walking distance to several restaurants and diners. Nice to stretch and sit in the hottub!! Short 4-5 hr. drive and checking into FTW by noon. Trip down was from Northwest Ohio, so you do have quite a bit more distance. If you can trade off on the driving, if GF is accustomed to pulling the trailer-DH made sure I was comfortable with this. Kids loved it, had a wonderful 10 days, once you're set up you know its no muss no fuss! Enjoy the trip down, we'll all hope the weather in Jan., 2010 stays good for you!
