Need Advice Before Booking

We are planning on going to WDW either in Sept or Oct. We want to take our 4 year old son to MNSSHP, and are planning on staying for a week.

I personally want to take advantage of Free Dining, but when we went earlier this year we stayed in a hotel and now my hubby says it's time to camp again, so staying at Fort Wilderness and free dining is out.

I mainly worry about crowd levels. From my experience Oct is more crowded than Sept, but Sept might be more crowed since this promotion is going on. Plus getting ADR's will be a nightmare.

So what do ya'll suggest ?
Should we wait until the free dining promotion is over ?
Does Disney normally have any promotions in OCT ?

I think that you will see close to the same crowds regardless of Sept or Oct. There will be some sort of promotion in October I would think. Just don't know what that will be.

We pushed our 2008 trip to the last week of August so as to qualify for the free dining, and (although I know it was the first week of school for many US children, and we went in between Tropical Storm Fay (one of the worst TS in history, made like 6 landfalls in FL) and Hurricanes Gustav and Hannah -- but the weather was PERFECT for the week that we went there, and the free dining promotion was going on

Anyway -- what I'm getting at -- the crowds were non existant. Walk on to any ride you want. The only ride we waited at was Toy Story Mania (about 50-65 minute wait) and the next closest wait we had was probably under 10-15 minutes.

I agree, I don't think you're going to see a huge difference in September and October.

I've been during free dining and in October and I didn't see a huge difference. Both were very manageable crowd levels.

If you're going to wait until free dining is over, I would wait until at least the middle of the month. Free dining is going so late this year, October 3, that there will still be guests on free dining packages for the first week or two of October.

Hey I was there too when tropical storm fay hit we arrived the same day, and I must say it was our best trip yet. The crowds were pretty good. For TSM we only waited anywhere from 35 mins to 45 mins, it was great. The best part for me was the first couple of days it wasnt so hot, it was very cool  in August.

But anyway you should try September going into October and get the free dining. The most I believe you will wait on line is 20 mins. which isnt so bad.

Apart from 1 trip we've always gone in Sept - Oct and have never had a problem with the parks being too crowded. The weather is still hot, rainier than other times, but again it's never spoilt our holiday.

Just an FYI-We went Sept 10-17 last year. MNSSHP was offered several nights when we were there. We have went the first week of summer and over Easter, and I so enjoyed the "crowds" in September better. We'd be going again at this time this year except my DD will be in driver's ed and can't miss that many days so it's back to summer time for us.

Wife and I have been to the free dinning WDW 3 times before and have never had a problem with the crowds. And, we even went as late as we could go so we could enjoy the Food and Wine Festival.
