Hi Gang,

I am looking for a program that allows you to save streaming video to your hard drive.

Free is good...lol cause all I need to do is save this one news segment thing... off of a Real Player stream.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks :)

Hmmmm...I've never heard of any software that save steaming video.

If nothing exists...you could try sticking a camcoder in front of you monitor and recording it that way . Then dumping it to your HD. It may be the long way but at least you'll get it. :p

Streaming Video (real media especially) streams for a reason..so that it cant be saved. Its a copyright issue...

There used to be a program that was made specifically for saving/converting RealMedia files....but it was shut down in a lawsuit about a year and a half ago..and it prob wouldnt work anymore with the new compression/anti-piracy measures taken by RM.

Ok... thanks for the info.

Not that I was stealing or pirating anything.... I had permission to grab this certain file... if I could... but I cant...so.. That’s ok... I will just have them send me a .wma file if they have one instead.. Thanks! :)

I had a program that could save Real and Windows Media streams. It was called Streambox VCR. It's really hard to find these days. I lost my copy in a harddrive failure. When it worked, it worked great. I had better luck using it on Read Media streams than on WIndows streams.

I had it too..but it no longer works with the new RealMedia stuff. Still does with ASF tho ;)

Luckily though... when I had to use it.. it was for web concerts in countries like Germany and Australia.. where maybe the latest and greatest Real Server wasn't available/cost effective to use. So there's a chance what he wants to record may be streamed from an old Real Server that is not protected by the latest protection schemes. I'd try it anyway. :)
