Nassau Without Excursions

We always get off in Nassau, and have several spots to visit. First and foremost, a stamp in our passports (which can be done right outside Festival Marketplace, where you exit once leaving the pier). We also like strolling over to Fort Fincastle (gorgeous views from up there) and Queen's Staircase (very beautiful spot). If you don't mind walking, it is about a mile walk there and a mile back. Very nice stroll, especially on a nice day. There is also a public beach (Junkanoo Beach) that is about a 12-15 minute walk from the pier (or you can take the jitney, I believe #10 there for 1.25/person). And of course, no trip to Nassau is complete without a visit to Tortuga Rum Factory for rum cakes! This is literally a couple of blocks from the pier. For those interested, Hard Rock is right across the street from the pier, as well as Senor Frogs.

If anyone wants directions to any of these places, ask away and I will provide!

We exactly did you get your passports stamped. We were there last Nov, and I don't remember where you talking about. Thanks for the info

After exiting Festival Place (the building you enter and exit when leaving the pier), turn to the left (everyone else is heading to the right). Just beyond the building is a chain link fence with guards at the gate. Inside the fence is a building, which is where you can get your passports stamped. Let the guards know you would like your passport stamped...they will let you through and direct you where to go (inside the building, down the hallway to the right, last door on the right). The folks there always get a kick out of us getting our stamps, and in fact our last visit we had a short visit with the most pleasant gentleman there!

We were just in Nassau on the Magic at end of July. Got off after breakfast and shopped along the main street, in and out of many shops. Last stop was through Straw Market on way back to ship. Never had any problems, nor were we really bothered by anybody (unless of course you mean the taxi drivers you have to pass through on way out of terminal all hawking their tours). Had lunch on ship, and then walked over to Junkanoo Beach for an hour or two in the afternoon. No problems on beach whatsoever. Some people selling stuff, but a simple no was good enough for them. Bought some beers at the stand. Chatted with a local who had his daughter and granddaughter visiting from the states, and they were quite pleasant. Overall, no problems not being on an excursion

Always check the current State Department Travel Advisories when visiting another country.

Have been several times. I think Nassau is great to just get off the boat and walk around. I have rented mopeds and ridden around. Someone else driving. NOT me. Rode to the beach and got jet skis. Take a cab to the Atlantis and walk around. Gorgeous. My last trip I took a cab to some zoo. Cant remember the name. They had a little Flamingo show. Got to hold and feed the birds. I love Nassau.
