And now I'm stuck.

Option A- Villas at Widerness Lodge via renting points from dvc member.

Or

PORS-With the possibility of the military room discount being extended into mmy travel dates or maybe free dining (if we were going this december our dates fall into both of these discounts)

Any thoughts?

Riverside!!

In 45 trips, after staying all over the World, we ALWAYS come back to PORS!!

The atmosphere, price, and value simply cannot be beat!! We've never had any problems with transportation, the service is always great, and we love the pool and food court. You also have access to POFQ, which we don't really use, but is nice for many people.

They also are very good about room requests, which we always make. We prefer corner room, first floor. Bldgs 14 and 18 (in Alligator Bayou) are just a 2 minute (max) walk from the main building and the bus stop. Magnolia Bend is just as gorgeous, but we have 5 people, so we are always in the Bayou.

Good Luck!!

Can't go wrong with either, but if money is not an issue, I'd stay at WLV. We are now DVC members and usually stay at AKL, but WLV was the first 'villa' we ever stayed at, and we have wonderful memories; boat to MK, sitting by the lobby fireplace, Whispering Canyon, boats on Bay Lake, etc.

Whatever you decide, enjoy your trip. :)

What time of year are you going?

We get the military discount too and Disney has a 40% off VWL as well (which I think is about as good as renting points without the risk). We've been researching both & ended up choosing the Beach Club Villas (40% off) because of it's proximity to Epcot & HS. We've stayed at PORS & feel it's not as nice as Shades of Green (which I assume is also an option for you if you get the millitary discount). The rooms are much smaller than SOG and the resort is very spread out (long walk to bus stop, pool etc.) I would never choose a Disney moderate over SOG if I have a choice.

Can't speak to PORS since I never stayed there but the Villas at Wilderness Lodge are excellent... I love me some Wilderness Lodge... I have read opinions about PORS and I guess you really can't go wrong with either place...

We are going 2nd week of December 2012... I considered SOG but we are flying and will use DME and bus transportation will there. Do you know when we will know if the miltary rates will be extended?

I too am stuck. Thinking of renting DVC points for VWL before our cruise but I'm a little nervous to do so. I got some decisions to make and soon. We are going the week before Easter so I am sure rooms are already booking up FAST for spring break!

I am nervous too!!! It makes it affordable, but there is that small risk... For my dates renting the points + dining plan+ tickets + about three hundred dollars less than the quote for PORS. But then with booking directly through Disney there is no risk and always the possibility of a discount later down the line... I keep flip flopping everyday, can't decide :(
I may rent points through dvcrequest...Anybody ever done this? Good/Bad experiences?

PO-R is our very favorite resort and we have booked April '12 with the military discount. Since the discount is available until the end of Sept '12 we might just sneak in another trip before the discount ends. :sohappy:

We just got back from 7 night stay at Port Orleans Riverside. After reading horrible reviews of the place and expecting the worst, we were amazed at all the negativity and didn't encounter any of the bad experiences we read about.
This was my wife's first experience at Disney and she absolutely loved Riverside. In her words, "even though there is a lot of buildings it has a very home like feel and doesn't seem busy as the rest of the hotels that are on property that we toured." We toured the Monorail route hotels, with no monorail problems, as well as Fort Wilderness, the all stars, and pop century. We stayed in the alligator bayou #26 with standard view.

We did have a few hiccups that didn't ruin our visit. The first hiccup up is one night while watching the weather forecast a nasty HUGE cockroach climbed up the wall. We called the front desk and they were there within 10 minutes to spray and remove the bug and looked for others.
The second hiccup was with people in electric scooters getting priority over everyone else in lines for the buses, even if they just showed up and their families ousting people off the bus. There has to be a better way to handle this. On the same note we found it odd the amount of older children the ages of 8 to 12 that were being pushed around in strollers.

Disney is a treasure that some people take for granted, I have been fortunate enough to visit several times when I was child and teen, but haven't been able to travel here, until this month, for over 10 years. Our next visit won't be for at least another 5 years and that is if we are lucky. For those that have disney in their back yards or visit often, cherish the experience many people may never get to visit and only experience through stories or pictures of others.
