Name tags.

Even when I'm out of costume, I'm asked if I work at the Resort.

I still give directions with the "Disney Point" (full hand never one finger) and have other CM mannerisms that people tend to ask me questions when I'm there. Haven't been a CM in years but I guess I still give off the "CM Vibe" :)

You know you'd think they'd make a mint with those Metal name tag engraving machines that they have scattered throughout the resort. Now if they only had CM name tags in them I would think they'd be popular..This is the one I am reffering to...

If you took this pic, could you tell me where this is? I have been looking for disney pet stuff just like what you see on the right. I looked at World of Disney and could not find it anywhere!

thanks

There is a place Downtown Disney that sold nametags that were just like the CM´s some years ago, I remember because I was at work and someone came in with nametags and no costume and I was like "where do you work at?" They said they were Guests and I asked where they got that nametag from...

I visited the place, but they only sold some other types now.

They used to have them in the back of 365 Days of Christmas. They were the red ones. I'm fortunate enough to have a friend of mine there make me a few actual CM tags. He was even nice enough to have one made for my retired K9. Their K9s have oversized CM nametags on their kennels.

I still have a few Disney name tags. When you forget your name tag or lose it you need to have one on so if you don't have a spare one of your own you pick from a pile and go by a different name for the day. I've been Lulu from Bangor, ME --- Lisbet from Oslo, Norway --- Sachiko from Aomori, Japan --- Blair from Victoria, BC.

I also had two spare name tags so I didn't have to rummage through the rejected pile. No one actually asks what your name really is so I was also Regan from Georgetown, WA (little homage to the Exorcist there) and Agloolik from Tuktoyuktuk, NWT

EDIT: yes I forgot my name tag a lot.

I have some, um, custom ones as well. I'll post some photos of mine when I'm no longer an employee. One of my friends was a huge Iron Man fan and got one reading Tony from Malibu, CA.

Im sure you could get someone to make you one...

If you Dine with an Imagineer, you get a custom name tag...that's the only place I can think of that Disney offers an "official" custom name tag.
speaking of dining with an imagineer... can you explain what that is exactly? my fiancé really wants us to do it but I can't find much information about it

One Little Spark...
speaking of dining with an imagineer... can you explain what that is exactly? my fiancé really wants us to do it but I can't find much information about it

Basically you get to join with a real WDI Imagineer for a meal. The atmosphere (at least for ours) was an open ended Q&A discussion / session. Don't expect to get a lot of behind the scenes dirt, but you may get some neat tidbits of already public, or at least not "Disney Top Secret" info. It was a lot of fun. Also, you probably will never have heard of the Imagineer you get to dine with. The big names may do this, I'm not sure, but my point is you won't know who you are going to eat with until you get there.

It doesn't happen all the time (Depending on the schedule at WDI, and Imagineers interested in doing it, I'd suspect). You need to call Disney Dining to find out when they are running it. It either takes place at the Flying Fish, or the Brown Derby.

Last year I did it at the Brown Derby and the event lasted about 2.5 - 3 hours. It is at a larger table where they sit several families together in the Bamboo Room (in the back of the restaurant). Last year, as I recall, there were about 10 people participating. Our Imagineer "host" for the day was Diego Parras. My kid was the youngest there (at 7) and she even had a few questions for our host (though, not many, but she still enjoyed it, especially the food).

Diego talked about the recently launched Disney Fantasy and about it's construction (which he helped work on) in Germany, as well as the impending launch of the New Fantasyland (which he was actually giving a media group a private tour of that after our meal). All sorts of things came up, like bringing Glow with the Show Ears to WDW (which Diego either pretended to or actually was ignorant about what they are, and I had to pull up a video on my cel phone, which then got passed around the table). I dunno, it was just a lot of random, but all Disney related, stuff.

The meal costs $60.99 (when I did it) and includes a souvanier plate (which your Imagineer may sign with a gold pen), a custom nametag, and a picture (as a group). For budgeting you should include the tax (7.93) and the automatic 18% gratuity that is added to your bill. The Dining Plan is not accepted. Though a bit steep on the price side (especially for a larger group, mine was a party of 2), the food is wonderful and when combined with the overall experience, worth every penny. It will require pre-payment with a credit card.

The menu options are limited. You get two appetizers, and have no choice. When I went the two appetizers were a small Cobb salad and Potato Leek soup, both very good! Then you get a choice of one of 3 entrees, Beef Tenderloin Filet with Mushroom Risotto, a Thai Noodle Bowl, or Coriander Dusted Grouper. (most everyone got the Filet or the Noodle Bowl). Then you get a choice of one of 2 desserts (Maple Creme Brulee or Grapefruit Cake).

Note, you may not have those options if you go, but the meal will follow that general theme. The menu is obviously printed out on a laser printer, and I suspect the chef makes it up that day or the day before (and possibly with input from the Imagineer host as to his personal dish he / she'd like to eat). The only thing I'd pretty much guarantee will be on there is the Cobb Salad, since it's the signature dish at Brown Derby.

The food was excellent, and you will not walk away hungry (but you won't feel like you ate an oversized meal either)! I actually enjoyed the smaller Cobb the way they served it, as they had cut up the meats a bit more and the ratio of goodies to lettuce was spot on. Also, if two of those dishes sound familier (like...Le Cellier), that's because they were pretty much exactly the same dish. However, I did Le Cellier and got both the Mushroom Filet and Maple Creme Brulee for that meal as well, and thought that the version at this meal was noticeably superior.

It was a lot of fun. This year I'm going on August 12 at Brown Derby for Lunch (unless I change my mind and cancel it...but I don't think I will.)
