MYW Tickets - Can Park Hopper be Added Later?

Hi guys, we're trying to find ways to save money on our WDW trip, and we are thinking of buying Magic Your Way tickets, but without Park Hopper options. For the 5 of us, this would save $265. But, we have usually been habitual park hoppers, and I'm concerned that we will regret this decision.

So, is it possible to pay to have a non Park Hopper ticket upgraded to a Park Hopper? I know that we've paid to add days to a MYW ticket before, but I wasn't sure if Hopping could be added.

Thanks mates...

How do they figure the upgrade difference in price. For instance, I purchased from an online ticket agency which was less than purchasing direct from Disney.

We also have only used park hopper but this time we are doing more than Disney and will be halfing days so I don't think in our case park hopper would be a good option. If Disney was our only destination, then park hopper would be a must.

Well, cost is one reason I'm considering this. But I also recall back before MYW tickets, when the discount on multiple days wasn't so great. Back then, you really paid for the extra days of park admission, so we would stretch our dollars by spending 3 days of our 6 day trip in the parks. On the off days, we would rest, swim, shop, and it was nice. Our 9-day tickets lasted us 3 years. But that's when no-expiration and park hopping were free.

Our thought is that the no-hopping approach might make this a less hectic trip.

I'm not quite sure what you're asking, so I'll answer in 2 different ways.

The park hopper option costs $50 + 6.5% sales tax. This is a flat fee no matter how many days are on the ticket. It's exactly the same price as if you'd originally bought the park hopper on the ticket.

If you bought tickets from an authorized reseller, make sure you use your ticket at least once before attempting to upgrade them. It will be cheaper this way. The best way for me to explain will be a hypothetical example.

Let's say you bought a base ticket from that online agency for $200, and the Disney "list price" is $220. If you add the park hopper option before you use the ticket, Disney will charge you not only for the $50 hopper option, but they will also charge you the $20 difference between what you paid and the list price. HOWEVER, if you use your ticket at least once before upgrading, you will pay ONLY the $50 for the hopper ... you won't have to pay the $20 difference in sale price.

Confusing? Yes, I agree. But it's fact.

How do Disney know what you paid for your tickets

Although once true, the good news is this is no longer the case. Per current policies:

The Guest is only responsible for paying for the cost of their additional days and/or options. Guests with pre-purchased Magic Your Way Tickets who wish to modify their tickets will receive the current gate price value of their ticket when upgrading. This policy is in effect for tickets priced with Advance Purchase Savings, Wholesale Tickets (i.e. tickets purchased through an authorized reseller), and/or Ticketing purchased prior to the most recent price change.

The Park Hopping Option (along with the Water Park Fun and More Option, the No Expiration Option and addtional days) can be added anytime within 14 days of the Ticket's first use. Once a ticket has been activated, all upgrades must be done in person at Walt Disney World. Ticket upgrades cannot be preformed by phone or mail.

As a reminder, only Magic Your Way Tickets may be upgraded following all established business rules. Pre-Magic Your Way Tickets are not upgradeable, but remain valid until their existing entitlements are used.

Any chance you can comment about WHEN this change took place and where this information comes from? My usual source for this type of info is a current guest relations CM at a WDW park. He works with ATS every day and has not been informed of this change on policy; he also looked for it on the Hub (after I asked the question) and said he found no recent changes such as what you reported.

THANKS!

I think Park Hopper is one flat price regardless of how many days you have on your ticket.
