Mystic Manor video

This is awesome! Yes, it's not Haunted Mansion, but I think it's not really meant to be. Lots of cool new effects and, even though it's just a video, I was blown away and loved how it just suddenly snapped back to reality. Now... this sort of thing in the US please!

Un-blinkin-believable. JUST wow. This IS what everything Disney Parks is about. Perfection.

I also believe it's in the same "realm" as TDL's Tower of Terror, and WDW's (gone) Adventurers Club?

When TDO makes an attraction or effect (or even suggests it (avatar, hitch hiking ghosts, etc) that is mostly screens and projections, it's ripped to shreds by the community -it's Disney on the cheap. When a ride overseas is made that is mostly screens and projections it is the best thing to come out of imagineering since the tiki room. :-)

In all honesty, it looks pretty cool and I'd definitely ride it, but it does seem that most of the effects are projection mapping - which can get kind of old. Not the best or worst they've done, do have to say I like the originality though.

What are you talking about? I see hardly any screens in these videos. There are a ton of practical, physical props and effects (not to mention some nice AA work) that are accentuated by projection mapping in a very cool, convincing way along with some great fiber optic work. This is not Midway Mania or Nemo, not by a long shot. There is a lot of unique trickery in this one, not to mention the use of the trackless ride system. Looks like a solid dark ride to me.

If I had to describe Mystic Manor based on these videos, I'd say it looks like the eccentric lovechild of the Haunted Mansion and the original Journey into Imagination -- I think that is pretty damn cool!

Well the entire finale looks like nothing but screens for a start, then three or four scenes are various paintings coming to life are just screens, the musical instruments, lava, bug covered sarcophagus, and quite a few other effects look to be relatively simple animatronics with projections layered on top. Many of the effects look like what was done with TT 2.0. And HM -which didn't get a great reaction.

Didn't say it wasn't a solid ride, just largely projection based - aside from the monkey and collector animatronics (which look great) I don't think I saw another effect that wasn't achieved with a projector. I don't think it'd be getting the same reaction if built in Orlando - not that it's not good or even great (although I hesitate to proclaim it as the second coming, as some seem to be)

Not bad, but it's certainly no Haunted Mansion.
That said, I'm glad they created something new instead of building another Mansion clone.

I do worry that WDI is becoming overly-dependent on projections and screens these days, so it was good to see a healthy assortment of animatronics (albeit simple ones) sprinkled about.
It looks as though laser projection is going to be replacing fiber optics as Disney's go-to "magic sparkle" effect, but I wonder about the reliability.
The Journey into the West climax was pretty cool, even if it was the most screen-heavy section.

So yeah, looks to be a solid D-Ticket attraction, though not on the world-beating scale of the stuff WDI cooked up for Disneysea back in 2001.

Anyone notice the Danny Elfman soundtrack?

Just watched this again for the first time in a while. Is it wrong to want nice things in Florida? Hopefully some day we will get back to quality like that

Just wanted to pop in and mention some of the early criticisms about the use of screens are unfounded. Definitely a ton of fantastic animatronics in use throughout the ride. This is not Mermaid its three impressive animatronics.

Also as far as the finale goes, you are limited as far as where the focus lies when someone is recording, but let me just say the 360 degree video mapping, with the highly impressive monkey statue animatronic and wind effects was extremely impressive. It's a completely different experience when its all happening around you versus a video.

It's also not haunted mansion by any stretch of the imagination. The only similarity is in the titles. Mystic Museum would have been more apt and perhaps eliminated the comparisons entirely. However, it certainly is one of the most impressive dark rides Disney has ever built, and in that regards it deserves to be right next to Mansion.
