MyMagic+ questions after watching the D11 video....

I like the idea of the band, but have a few questions....
I like the idea of it being my room key, ticket to the parks, photopass ticket, and for purchasing. I see this a just a replacement for the credit card sized keys to the kingdom card. No problems here...

I do not like that they mention smartphone app...

Sounds like a smartphone is really required to get the most out of this? That said I do not carry a smartphone at WDW. I am on vacation and want to be as far from my "wireless lease" as possible. Does Disney not understand that employers call on cell phones, and do not care if you are on vacation?

I see they mention kiosks for ticketless fastpasses, if you do not have a smartphone.
But how does it notify you if you do not have a smartphone?
Does it give you a ticket at the kiosk?
How many of these kiosks are there?
How fast is it to use one of these kiosks (think about the problems people have at simple to use self checkouts at grocery or walmart stores)?
Do I have to wait for a certain amount of time between kiosk visits?
Also it sounded like you can get these ticketless fastpasses prior to entering the park, won't this just empty the fastpasses out within minutes (think of how fast they disappear for toy story in Disney Studios)?

Sounds like a good idea without being truly aware of how the present systems are abused, and thus will be abused again.

I am sure that Disney does understand that employers do call you on vacation, but you can also simply not answer.

Right now there are not any definitive answers for your questions as the system is not live yet.

I have done that in the past, but they just sent endless emails and texts, and make the phone useless. On a average day I will get 2000+ emails from work. Now if I could stop all the emails and texts from them when I do not answer, it would be a good thing (that is why I do not carry it at WDW). But I guess when they think that only I can solve their problems, and they have no other choice. I do get even though by calling them, sending them emails and texts at midnight while they try to sleep.

This is a quote from the above linked site
"Like most people who visit Walt Disney World Resort, my family and I have our “must-do” attractions, and as the father of three boys, those attractions often end with the word “mountain.” Now, rather than dashing as a group, or even splitting up to gather FastPasses, imagine booking guaranteed ride times for your favorite shows and attractions even before setting foot in the park. With MyMagic+, guests will be able to do that and more, enabling them to spend more time together and creating an experience that’s better for everyone."

The bolded area will be the end of the new fastpass kiosk and standard fastpass stands. It will cause the fastpasses for the ride it is for, to be taking up even before the park is open. Maybe even days or weeks before. If I had not actually seen that all the fastpasses for toy story mania to be gone in less then 10 minutes almost daily, on the existing system, then I would not even contemplate this. I see this a big gotcha that Disney has not thought of, or maybe they have and said "oh well whatever.....".

Another quote from the site

"Once they arrive, they can use their smart phones to spontaneously change their plans in the moment, exploring our parks at their own pace and getting the most out of their visit."

So they are saying that to use the system efficiently you do need a smartphone.

This can get tricky...people would be booking their fast passes as soon as the system lets them.
I wonder if it would be 90 days prior to the trip or what?

Whoa- that's super annoying! But I think that's the exception, not the rule. I run a small business and get my work/projects done bf I go and let them know ahead of time, out of office reply on the email.Etc... I reply to a client here and there or if they need something I can remote into my computer when I get back; but I don't have it that bad. Wow... But most ppl don;t get that volume of stuff while they r on vaca so the app works well.

Interested to see how the kiosks work as well. I m sure they will have a CM stationed nearby like at the super market to help out the less tech savvy vacationer. (Or the one with the annoying coworkers who don't know the meaning of VACATION!)

I agree, I do like the band as a replacement for the KTTW card. But some things about FP+ make me leary to be stoked about it. For instance, I hate the prospect of ride planning 60 days ahead. You are right- how are you supposed to get fp's for headliners if people are scheduling them 60 days in advance??? They must only allow a certain amount to be pre-booked... It seems like a nightmare. I don't want to plan every detail of my vaca down to the rides I want to take at what moment. How do you even know what you will feel like doing that far ahead? We decide almost spur of the moment what we feel like doing. Nothing is certain when you have little ones...

You are assuming that Disney will allow 100% of the fastpasses for an attraction to be booked prior to park opening. We do not know that to be the case. Considering that there is no financial incentive for them to do this and they will have a steady line of ticked off guests at Guest Services if they do, I do not think they will.

Yes, which I do not really see has a problem as more than half of the phones sold today are smart phones and that number grows every day. Give it a few years and bet you will have a problem finding a dumb phone outside of the burners.

Are you the only member of your party with a smart phone or smart device like an iPod touch that works off of wi-fi?

This is why my husband had to get a second private phone instead of using the same phone for work and personal. He is like you getting tons of call, texts and emails everyday and he knows the longer he is on the phone the more bored I get and the next thing you know I'm in a gift shop buying stuff;)

I'm going in 12 days... yes, you read right, 12 days... LOL

Can someone please tell me if this will be in effect then? I'm a little confused about it now, but I suppose when I get there it'll be fine. My biggest worry is that I'm supposed to be reserving ride times now which of course I am not. Or is the wrist band only replaceing the card key???

No my wife and son also have smart phones, but do not take them into the parks either. They do not want to have them with them either. Vacation for us means getting away from the day to day stuff and staring at a 6 to 9 square inch screen. We all stick together at the parks, so communications is not an issue. But heck I can always get a GAC and bypass the line, after all they cannot ask you what your handicap/medical condition is.

wow.. talk about broken company. 2000 emails, 30seconds per email = 8.33 hours a day just reading email. Obviously that is not the intent of the tool :)

To many monitoring tools that send garbage emails of site up, site down, site being worked on by ISP, ticket opened, ticket worked, ticket closed, ticket resolved, meeting invite, meeting change, meeting minutes, meeting invite to talk about meeting that ended 5 minutes ago, customer can't login, customer can't logout, customer has no electricity, etc....
add to this firewall intrusion attempt emails, you would be amazed at the amount of illegal hacking being done/attempted.

Being smart can pay off, but everyone expects you to handle/fix stuff/it, so they get tools/software that emails you about something, so they don't have to.
