MyDisney Confusion please Help

Hello. I am taking my family to DW the day after Thanksgiving through the first week of December this year. There are going to be 11 of us total. We will be purchasing our tickets soon, but I am a little confused about the MyDisney and Fastpass+. I am not the most "technologically advanced" person in the world so this might have to do with some of my confusion. It's been about 10 years since our last trip and from the sounds of it, a lot has changed.

First off, we are not staying at a Disney Resort. I have heard conflicting reports as to whether or not this allows me to use the MyDisney App (I have an iPhone) and the usage of Fastpass+ tickets/selections. I even called Disney's hotline number twice (and received two completely different answers) to no avail. So I ask someone to help me! (Thank you in advance for helping me make the most out of my future trip with my family!)

My first question is this: Am I even able to take advantage of using Fastpass+ before I get to the park if I am not staying at a Disney Resort? If I am - can I use the MyDisney experience app to do this? And again, if so, am I able to make changes 30 days in advance? If I am the one who has downloaded the APP, do I need to scan all 11 family member's tickets (and can I even do this)? And, do we only get one Fastpass+ selection per park per day, or multiple?

If I am unable to use any of the pre-Fastpass+ selections, I will submit to using the kiosks in the parks, and give up the dream of pre-planning.

Thank you so much for taking the time to help this Dad make the most of his family vacation this year! One last question (random) do I need to have purchased my tickets already in order to make dinner reservations in advance? Our 180 days before date is coming up soon and I want to be prepared.

Thanks again everyone!

Daniel

As I understand it:

You can use MDE. To coordinate all 11 in your party, each of the 11 will need their own MDE account and you'll need to add each of them as Friends & Family. Each ticket will need to be associated to the individual's account [once you're all linked in MDE, you can add each person's ticket to their account]. Once everyone has a valid ticket attached to their account, you'll be able to book FP+ for the whole group starting 30 days prior.

Magic Bands are now available for purchase by non-resort guests, but honestly I wouldn't waste the money. Your tickets will work for FP+ and I'm not sure there are any real benefits to having MB beyond that.

I can answer parts of your question. You will be able to take advantage of making FPP+ choices 30 days prior to arrival as long as your tickets are linked to your MDE account. You get 3 FPP+ selection in one park per day. No park hopping.

You can make dining reservation 180 days from the date of your arrival but would only be able to make them one day at a time unlike onsite guests who can make the reservations 180 days plus up to ten days of their stay. (Hope that makes sense)

I don't think everyone in the party has to have their own MDE account. We went as a party of four in December and took advantage of FP+ and I'm the only one who has an MDE account. I added DH and our kids to my profile and made the FP+ reservations for all four of us. Now if you have multiple families in your large group, each family may want their own MDE account and then link those accounts to yours.

Not everyone needs an account, just a ticket. You have to be age 13 and up to even have your own account. Create yours, add guests, and you're done. You can invite others to share (they will be able to view the itinerary on their own MDE), or plan (ADRs, FP+, etc.).

Welcome to WDWMAGIC Daniel!

Yes you can make advance FP+ reservations using the My Disney Experience app or website even if you are not staying at a WDW resort hotel. You need to link your park tickets in My Disney Experience, and then you will be able to make FP+ reservations 30 days before you arrive. You can make 3 FP+ selections per park, per day.

You can read more about this at http://www.wdwmagic.com/other/mymag...available-to-offsite-day-guests-next-week.htm

You do not need to have theme park tickets to make dining reservations.

Thanks everybody for the super fast responses! This has got to be the best forum around. Our trip is coming up on six months away, so I'll probably have lots more questions and know where to go!

OK, my own confusion may be because I couldn't add my son's ticket until we got there and thereby couldn't include him in the FP+ selections in advance.
