My (unhealthy?) Disney obsession

You sound like me, if I had the money I'd pick up and leave. However I couldn't think of just leaving behing responsibility.

Hey ES my name is Brandon and I work for a casting company out of LA called People Farm Casting and we are currently working with TLC to cast the next season of My Crazy Obsession and I found your story while on the search for auditions. I would love if we could talk more about just how much you Love WDW and get you in the mix for an audition to the show! Please email me at Brandon@peoplefarmcasting.com or call me at 323-493-3205.

Many Thanks!
Brandon

I don't know if I can take the time off work for that. I used up all my days.

Anyone else see the irony here?

All I can say is WOW!!! How do you still have a job? You're young, apparently pretty smart to still have a job, so why not move to Orlando and land a job at Disney? Sounds like a plan to me...of course that's my dream though. :D Hope you get it all figured out. :)

Here's my deal. Weeks ago, I go on lunch break, right? I never came back. Didn't say anything. Just got in my truck, picked up my things and drove. The next evening, I arrived at the World. Something happened to me. I was just compelled to go. Arranging vacation time wouldn't have been an issue, but I just didn't care. Like Jake Blues, I had seen the light and there I was suddenly hauling butt to my Cook County Assessor's Office on a mission from God.

You guys know the drill: had to marathon ride Haunted Mansion and Spaceship Earth, Fastpass Peter Pan, sit down front at Muppet Vision to watch the penguins, acquire Pecos Bill's cheeseburger and subsequently create a killer salad via the toppings bar, and of course swig that Florida swamp water!

Now, I am still employed, even though I just shut everyone out during this religious pilgrimage. A recurring thing for me. I have an obsession. Everyone who knows me knows that. I may value Walt Disney World more than my relationships with them. I am only truly happy when I'm there. When you can wake up, jump on a bus and go to the Magic Kingdom? It's heaven on Earth.

Coming back to this cold reality where you're sitting in traffic (notice the Disney antenna toppers decorating other driver's vehicles as well) en route to some job far, far away from central Florida unable to even take regular weekend trips...you try to convince yourself it's okay. You count it down to the next trip. You come to places like this on the internet. You play the EPCOT entrance medleys and other music from the parks every day while driving or working, or at your so-called home. Everything will be alright!

In less than a year, I have traveled to Orlando four times. Three trips to Disney, one to Universal (which even included a totally ill-conceived job interview). I am back in Rhode Island and terribly far away from Walt Disney World. I am seriously considering moving to Florida to be happy again. But I am also considering whether or not there could be something wrong with me. Whether this Disney obsession is a bad thing.

Any thoughts/advice?
Wow, you are just like me, I am also obsessed with WDW. My co-workers can't understand when I talk about my
Disney fixation. I am a forklift driver for a large
sunscreen manuf. When I put the shipping label
on a pallet going to the Disney Dist. Center in Orlando I go into a day dream mode. When I load
it on the trailer I want to ride that 52 footer all the
way to the dock on Challenger Dr.and unload it myself. Ok, back to reality, I am still here making
$$ to pay for my trip with a free dining pin code at
the end of Oct at AoA Little Mermaid. My dining res. are made and I am ready for my 2nd trip this year. They just can't figure out why I am going again. None of them have ever been and they don't know how the Disney magic can be so
wonderful. I do plan to work there pt after I ret.
I hope to be rollin on a forklift and unloading
sunscreen. Lol

Sounds very unhealthy and I am surprised you weren't fired. You obviously must have a very lenient boss, I'd count yourself lucky. I think we would all love to just make a spur of the moment trip to Disney World when we felt like it but the reality of it is that we just can't, it's not plausible. I think it would take away some of the magic too in a way. I hope that you can get some help.

You know I don't want to condone what he did, because obviously it was irresponsible, selfish, obsessive, and all those other qualities that can create problems in ones' life. That being said... I can't help but want to chastise you and all others who want to preach against spontaneous acts of adventure. Life is so short and I think it is okay to commit those acts once in a while. However I think he should have done the alerts to boss/family/friends prior to the departure while packing inasmuch to not cause undue worry and concern. I can't totally condone his impulsive trip but I can't condemn. Yes there is magic in the planning of our sojourns to the world but there is also a magic in just grabbing a bag and going, I think the freedom in doing it the latter way is both exhilarating and frightening. But the best advice is from those who say, go start a career at WDW. Maybe he will then find his element and have the best of both worlds.

Just an update, I have decided not to go back to WDW for some time. This last couple of years was like my serious heyday of WDW vacationing. I'm thinking of calling it quits for a while and focusing on saving moolah instead of blowing it all on riding The Great Movie Ride and Haunted Mansion.

I need to find like a Disneyholics Anonymous.

why so extreme?? can't you do both? Save and go to Disney??? Stay off property, bring your own lunch etc. There are things you can do to go to WDW on budget. This way you can save $$ and go to Disney!! Try looking at mouse savers website. http://www.mousesavers.com/

first off perception is not reality, what one person considers"reality" might not be your reality,I say if you can do it go for it too many people get by "surviving" live it up go for it.If it doesn't turn out it'll be a great learning experience and if it works out the way you hope, just think of how happy you'll be.Trust me the only one who has to live with the outcome is you. There are other jobs and places to live .It might turn out to be the best thing you ever do and if it doesn't then at least you'll never wonder right?

Just...(((((((HUGS))))))) <3

Definitely look at your life and evaluate if it's where you want to be, what you want to be doing....maybe look into jobs around FL and affordability?

I soooo wish we could do that sometimes! We're in CO, so a VERY long way away. With 3 little boys, so leaving for a week isn't feasible for us. However, the weekends, we make sure are just spent with family. Our boys, my parents or his parents, or my sister. We reconnect. We do things like drive through the mountains, go to the zoo, go fishing, or hiking. We find local parks to go to.

Maybe find some things in your area you can do, even if it's a few hours away, on your days off. Just to get out of town for a bit?

I would do this probably if I could drive and had money. However, I don't. My brother did this, he just up & went to Canada for a week but we all knew where he was and he was just laid off from his job, so I guess it's different.
I'll probably get banned for saying this but #yolo (just kidding!!!) in all honestly I would do the same thing but probably tell people where I was going. I don't know I'm only 16 so I probably have much different views than those who are grown adults.
