My thoughts on rumored 12/31 announcement

The more I see and hear about this special annoucement from Disney on 12/31...the more it looks like the annoucement may be in fact pointing to being open 24 hours on leap year....but if all of this hype is JUST for this (and a few mentions about the new fantasyland) then I really think Disney has left a lot on the table and overblown this with too much hype.

In my opinion, being open for 24 hours on leap year will only benefit so many people and most of those have already planned their vacations to be there around that week or so (and there will be some locals too I'm sure). Because of this most of us would be like "ok neat but nothing that benefits me or my trip."

I'm hoping with the hype there is more to this... like everyone gets an extra day of tickets/lodging free if staying longer than 4 days, etc. or something along those lines (and also include DVC member stays). The theme as we all know is "One More Day" and the videos show a lot of clocks... I love Disney but my honest opinion, if the annoucement is JUST being open for 24 hours, then this is a waste of marketing $ for just focusing on that day/night. Time will tell (see what I did there :hammer:) lol

What are your thoughts?

DVC operates under Florida timeshare laws and there's no way they can offer an "extra day" perk to DVC members. But I think that's exactly what they'll be offering cash guests.

then maybe they should offer DVC members smaller specials like 15-20% food or merchandise during their stay if they can't get the same cash specials.

i always wondered if disney offered different perks for DVC members along the same times as cash/package specials (even if small) if that would attract more people to DVC

All this hype for a 24 hour operation on Leap Day is just silly if that truly is what Disney plans. I really don't think Disney would go through this just to stay open for 24 hours on Leap Day, but I could be wrong. They may do something just as stupid as exactly that. Personally I think that they will be going around and offerring an extra days stay to people they randomly pick. But then that would backfire as well. We fly down so we couldn't just simply change plans like that. And I would have to request another day off work. And what if they offer the "prize" to locals? They're just there for the day. This whole thing sounds like a collossal waste of time and resources by Disney.

I was hoping that MK would be open for 24 hours one day PER WEEK.

Maybe?

And I wonder if it is "Get an extra day ticket/night at Resort" that if that will only apply if you book rack rate, which is hardly a discount. If I used a discount code, would I still benefit from the promotion?

Assuming that either idea actually WAS the promotion...time will tell.

I think they may be overhyping this as well. I've been keeping my expectations down and I doubt they'll really announce anything important. Typically projects like Avatar or the Marvel acquisition are announced completely out of the blue, while the marketing people are more into the "we're announcing that we're going to make an announcement" deal, so I have little doubt that it will be anything but a special deal or next year's promotion.

But still, yesterday I saw an ad for the announcement in a sidebar when I was on Facebook... Facebook! Why are they hyping this so hard to the casual Disney-goer, most of which won't care about tuning into the live feed or whatever and would just as well see a DisneyParks commercial a few days later? Hopefully they haven't forgotten this memorable DisneyParks Blog post promising a special announcement for "exciting things in DisneyParks" complete with live video feed... which turned out to be the Let the Memories Begin campaign. For a quick summation of the viewers' reaction, just read the comments on the follow-up post. And the WDWmagic thread that followed was one of the more memorable I've read. :ROFLOL:

But yeah, they really need to save the announcement hype for when they have something of substance to announce.

Ya'll realize that if you just wait like, TWO more days, you won't have to speculate anymore? Then you can complain and analyze something that's actually been announced.

Just like you could have not hit reply and waste your time responding and being rude right? :brick:

I'm not being rude, or I didn't intend to be, I'm just saying the fact of the whole thing is right around the corner. :animwink:

I am kind of hoping that it means the parks will be open longer every day. Even just an hour or two. I'm only wishing this for selfish reasons, since I'll be there in February and the parks close early. Probably not likely, but you never know?

I can forsee March 1 now if the rumors are true. The MK park guests arriving at the turnstiles for the welcome show while guests from the previous day walk out zombified.

Also it really wouldn't be 24 hours - it would be 24 hours (maybe a break of 1 hr) then 12-13 more hours. Or if park opens at same time both days its like a 36+ hour park operation.
