OK, I'm sure I'll insult some people here with this message, and I apologize in advance as it is clearly not my intention.

Anyhow, I've noticed alot on here that some people start to complain when a topic comes up that has apparently been talked about in the past.

I've seen it a few times myself. I think some people need to understand, not everyone has been on these boards very long. There are new people on it every day, and they all like to discuss things about Disney World that have already been discussed in the past. I think it's somewhat rude of people to make remarks like "oh here we go again", or "how many times has this thread come up".

For alot of people, the thread hasn't come up once. If you've been here for a while and you run across a thread that has been up before, just skip by it. Doesn't seem fair to make new members feel bad about talking about things that have been talked about before.

Again - No offense to anyone. Just something to think about.

I agree to an extent, but that is also why there is a SEARCH function on the boards. If people would take the time to search for a similiar thread, they can simply revive it and add to or begin again the conversation that has taken place on the subject.

Yeah, but it kind of defeats the purpose of the "discussion".

If you do a search for something that was discussed 2 months ago and you reply to it, what good does that do? Might as well just start a new discussion. Plus, I'd be willing to bet, alot of the time, when people see a thread that has 4 or 5 pages already to it, they won't even bother getting in on it. By that point, the discussion has turned into something completely different from the original post.

These boards should be informative AND interactive.

True enough.

But again, the boards here shouldn't just be for information purposes.

Alot of people, myself included, use these boards because they enjoy talking with with other Disney fans.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is, yeah all that is true, but what's the big deal?

If you're not interested, don't read it.

I hear ya.

I don't know, it just bothered me this morning. I was reading someone's post about something to do with Epcot, and someone replied with a sarcastic remark about how many times this had come up before and the next person agreed. I just felt bad for the person who posted the original message.

I mean, even using the search tool, if you type in Epcot, it's going to bring up a lot of old posts. They were just looking for some info and to maybe have a quick conversation with someone, that's all.

While you are correct, there are currently a number of double threads that are viewable on the recent thread list. People should at least be able to scan the last 20 threads in a topic.

True, and I think the more a subject gets rehashed, the less likely it is people will respond. It gets tiresome saying the same thing over and over again. Old threads could be more helpful. :) I think the only time people get upset that an old topic is brought up is if it's one people would rather let drop, say if a fight was started, or if it was a "touchy" subject to begin with.

Myself, I don't really care either way. I skip 'em if I don't wanna read them.

That's my point - If it gets tiresome saying the same thing over and over - Don't say anything. Don't even bother looking at it if it's going to bother you. Just seems like it's that simple to me.

And maybe older threads could be helpful. However, the search engine doesn't always help. It can be very broad at times, and like I said earlier, alot of people will be turned away if the thread is already 5 pages long, due to the fact that the discussion is more than likely turned into something other than what the original topic was.

Here are my thoughts, for what they're worth:

It doesn't hurt to do some quick research just to make sure that there is not already a recent thread on the topic. However, if hitting the research button comes up with past threads, even threads from the not-too-distant past, I am probably going to post anew. Here's why:

1. The old thread may be too long for me to read through. For example, in another forum a couple of months ago I asked whether anyone knew what the height requirement was going to be for The Mummy. Immediate flame, albeit a low-level-flame. The first response I got was something along the lines of, "use your research button and you will find this ________", which was a link to a thread about the Mummy generally. The thread was 171 "pages" long! I'd be a Mummy before I got through it.

2. The old thread may be too old. If I am asking for everyone's opinion, I want fresh opinons too. If I find an old thread and read it, I still will likely re-post the topic. Typically I will not revive the old post because I feel like people are not likely to read through and respond to a topic with 10+ pages already. So I probably will not get any fresh responses.

3. The thread may have gone off topic. I see this a lot. Responses will often go far a field of the original topic. A 10 page thread may actually have only a few relevant responses.

Anyway those are my thoughts. When I see a reoccurring topic, I will point the original poster to the old threads by replying with a link (which people usually do for me here). Or I will simply not read it.

THANK YOU!!!! And thank YOU, joviacdan, for bringing this topic up!! All of the points you both brought up are ones that go through MY head any time someone jumps down someone else's throat for bringing a topic up again.

Yeah but I always where a Mickey Mouse shirt when I go there. Plus, in my grand scheme, Disney is going to take over UO one day.
I can't even imagine the "Huge Monorail Expansion" threads that this will rumor will start.

When my daughter finally signed up w/ wdwmagic, she was so excited she posted (may have been fav disney song) and someone bit her for posting it again. She got her feelings hurt - she is only 12.
