My Review Of Revenge Of The Mummy!

Brooke:

Two questions:

1) Does the coaster have big dips (drops) and does it have any like loops to the track? I'm wondering how much of a coaster this ride really is, as I don't like big drops.

2) How scary did you find the ride to be?

Thanks.

OK, so is the ride just based on a roller coaster track, but it's not the typical monster roller coaster with surprise drops and high end speed and all?

Nope, I believe the treasure room is already in its finished form, including its mummies. They are not animatronics though...just detailed 3-Dimensional "rubber", stationary props that pop out quickly to give you a scare. They do not have any movements.

The three animatronics that need to be installed are 1) A Reggie animatronic in the first show scene (he is a tour guide introduced in the queue videos), 2) An Imhotep animatronic in this same scene who pops out of a casket and "attacks" Reggie and 3) Another Imhotep animatronic in the last 'true' show scene with the fire ceiling. Although it is not 100% confirmed, it appears these are the only things that still need to be added. No jumping or chasing animatronic Mummies that the press releases suggested. Obviously, installation and testing and timing of the ride with the animatronics will take time.

Its not a typical coaster. The ride vehicles and track appear to be your typical coaster stuff. However, it slowly moves on these "coaster tracks" through several show scenes, including stopping completely in certain rooms. At two points though, the vehicles do go through your normal coaster stuff. This includes high speed powered launches and several drops, banked turns and "bunny hills" that occur predominantly in the dark with the addition of cutout props that light up with blacklights, similar to RnRC, and some fog effects. The traditional coaster aspect of the ride is nothing too intense or extreme....somewhere along the lines of a slightly faster Space Mountain, but with a powered launch. There are no extremely long or steep drops (I think the steepest is at a 50 degree angle) and there are no inversions.

^^Yeah, that's the thing. When you say "several drops" it has me wondering. I've done Space Mountain and that was fine, but that had no drops really. I can deal with some drops, but I guess it's just has to do with how significant that drop is.

The biggest drop is right after the fake ending and fire scene. It's really fun and seems a bit steep to me personally but it's not that big of a drop AT ALL compared to big rollercoasters.

Pacman, to answer your question about the drop, I just looked at the press release and it says the largest (and the main drop Brooke talked about) is 25 feet and at a 50 degree angle. It catches you by surprise because you don't quite expect it without knowing where it is. For comparison, SpLASH Mountain's main drop is around 52 feet at a 45 degree angle. The coaster parts are NOWHERE near the the intensity felt on say The Hulk or RnRC. I'd still say the best comparison, and others have said the same, is that the "intensity" of Mummy is on a level similar to Space Mountain, but with an initial fast launch up a hill (again there is NO inversions). If you can handle Space Mountain OK, I'd say you would be alright on Mummy too.

While I don't have the energy to go digging, check past posts about the Mummy ride. One links to an EXACT CGI version of the ride. It will give you the whole experience.

Minus the backwards part and turntable. Otherwise it's darn near identical, right down to the audio.

The CGI concept video was taken off the site it was initially on, but it was brought to my attention a few days ago that it is still available on the net if anyone cares to see it. Warning! It is the biggest spoiler as it walks you through the entire ride and its show scenes, minus the short backwards portion down a small hill and the following turntable.

The site that still has it is here:

-or- the direct link to the video (Windows Media) is here:

Thanks! I have been looking for that for over a month.

The ride looks great and very high standards. But it doesn't look like a top 5 attraction. It's a lil too short if you ask me.
