Trip Report My last post was negative but this post is POSITIVE feedback!

Tonight we had an exceptional dinner experience. We took a chance and tried going to Tepan Edo hibachi in Epcot. To say I was impressed is an understatement. Upon checking in, I was asked if there were any allergies. After I stated I had an allergy to Latex and if they used the gloves there for food prep I was approached by the manager and the head chef. Not only did they take every precaution they could to protect me, they took all my dishware back including my fork, and rewashed it by hand. While my allergy is serious, rewashing all my dishes probably was not necessary but I did appreciate how cautious they were.I still got to enjoy the "show" for the rest of the table as they hand prepared my food separate in the back avoiding all latex. The cook at our table then said, last year they had a latex allergy person and he said the kitchen ran around like crazy trying to make everything right for that patron. I was also checked on multiple times by the head chef and the manager. Now that is how you take care of a patron. Top it off with that the food was fabulous! I have brought up my latex allergy to several places and never have I had such an immediate and concerned response. Tepan Edo will now be automatic choice with each trip.

It also impresses me with how well Disney takes care of customers with allergies. My wife had to avoid all dairy products when she was nursing because our daughter had a severe dairy allergy. When we mentioned it at restaurants, the chef always came out and asked what she wanted to eat and figured out a way to make it without dairy.

I haven't tried Tepan Edo yet, but I am a fan of hibachi restaurants and will have to try this one day.

Props to them for being so cautious with the food allergies, but I have to ask, why does this restaurant still use latex gloves?!? I've worked in restaurants for over 10 years, and never have I worked at a place that used latex gloves at all because of the allergies associated with them! I thought no place really used them anymore because of how common other types of gloves for this reason.

latex allergies are very serious and reactions can be immediate life threatning, much like peanut allergies. Glad to read they took good care of you!

I wondered the same thing! In New York they are not supposed to use them but the chef working our table said they have to have their health codes checked frequently when I said the problem could be solved if they just didn't use them. It's a good thing I said something before hand! I have had bad reactions eating out before and actually have called restaurants to ask and sure enough, latex was used (but this was many years ago, things have changed). I am not sure what Florida's rules are for restaurants but many years ago a place in DS was using latex and I could see them preparing it, I had to ask them to start my food over and they did. I was there again today and they were wearing vinyl.
