When we got to Philadelphia Airport there was only a small line of people waiting for boarding passes. We had paper tickets so we couldnt use the self check-in and when we got to the counter (which took forever) the woman from hell gave us an ear beating because we were in the wrong line and then made a mockery of us in front of everyone which is not the way I wanted to start my trip, especially with such limited sleep.
We boarded on time and the plane took off and from there on I had a major panic attack all the way to MCO... all I could think of was the wing snapping off or something. We had a few rough patchs where the pilot would nose dive and was told by a pilot friend who was watching my flight on his computer that we dove around a mile a few times, which he couldnt explain why.
When we got to MCO about 20 minutes earlier then we expected and started heading for the Disney Welcome Center and bolted for the doors to have a smoke first :sohappy: . We then went back inside to the Welcome Center and then were happily greeted and ushered to our Magical Express bus. The ride took about 30 minutes and made a few stops before reaching the Wilderness Lodge and then headed for the Check-In counter where we were told one of our rooms were ready WOOHOO! Our kids room was ready about an hour later so all in all things worked out pretty well considering how early it was.
Day 1 (Sunday)
After settling in a bit we all went to the Roaring Fork (inside the lodge) and got some lunch and all I can say is :hurl: . The hamburgers were thin, dry and had a funny taste. The floors were nasty with leftover breakfast on them... we had pieces of bacon under our table. My wife went to throw out our trash and nearly killed herself heading back to the table because of what looked like a slick of grease on the floor near the trash cans.
Our room was pretty nice, though I wasnt impressed with their choice of colors. The rooms in my opinion looked 100% better when IW as there 9 yrs ago. Our bathroom was stocked nicely with towels but did notice some particles on the floor that may have been food. I watched those particles for 3 or 4 days before they finally vanished, so it seems housekeeping needs a refresher course on how to clean a room.
We went to MK around 2:00 PM and man was it hot... hadnt even been there but an hour and was drenched with sweat. The crouds were out of control and was going crazy trying to find a ride to get on that didnt have a crazy wait. Our first attempt was The Jungle Cruise which had a 60 minute wait and already everyone was complaining, which I guess was to be expected because my family had never been there so they werent prepared for such long lines. We gave up and headed down to POTC which only had a 30 minute wait and everyone enjoyed themselves and were quite impressed with it. We took a break (actually a few)... seems the wife wanted to hunt down and test every smoking area within the park.
The line were bad all over and we worked our way all the way to Its A Small World and were able to get on that with not much of a wait. The rest of the week my teen girls were driving me nuts with the Small World song :brick:. We pretty much just walked around taking things in at that point because were all just exhausted... had dinner at Crystal Palace where we were able to be seated 40 minutes ahead of our reservation. Food was so so but the girls enjoyed getting pictures with Eeyor, Tigger and Winnie the Pooh. We then headed back to the lodge to hit the pool and relax. Im not a pool person so I sat behind the pool near the bar and smoked my ciggs while drinking this awesome drink called Orange Creamsicle (by the end of the week I think I must have had at least 2 or 3 dozen of these :king: ).
Day 2 (Monday)
We went to MGM and MAN WAS IT HOT!!! I was roasting my butt off before even getting inside the park. First thing we headed for was TOT and then line was wicked long so we grabbed some Fast Passes and got something to drink. My wife also started finding all the smoking areas and again had to test them out. We headed back to TOT with our passes and got on within 5 minutes and wow... I think I liked having the bar instead of just the belts... but I was lucky because I was on the outside of the row and claimed both handles to grasp onto for dear life... the ride was awesome though compared to the simple double drop it did 9 yrs ago.
We then went to the Beauty and the Beast show which was ok I guess but not a guy thing really. We then hit a few more smoking areas... lol and then had lunch at the Backlot Express and boy oh boy I was impressed for it being a quick service, the double cheeseburgers and fries were to die for and my kids feel in love with the grilled turkey and cheese. We walked around a bit trying to scope out some small lines to no avail and then headed to dinner at the Brown Derby. We got seated pretty quick and ordered a few drinks and started off with their salad which was good. One of my kids swated at a fly that was in her face and it went into her drink
which they replaced without hesitation. I had the duck which I never tried before and wasnt pleased at all with the gamey taste and the grits were :hurl: . My kids both had the chicken which they complained was very dry and my wife had the Filet Mignon and she started tasting this stuff on the top and asked me what it was and was like STOP!! ITS A LOBSTER BUTTER!! She is deathly allergic to anything shellfish... she only tasted a smigg of it and the waitress quickly took it away and brought back another plate minus the lobster butter. We left the Derby and it was pouring cats and dogs and sat under the entrance awening for an hour until it stopped. We then headed for the Fantasmic line which was horribly long and were able to get an awesome viewing spot. I think we sat there maybe 15 minutes and my youngest daughter was starting to feel very sick to her stomach and we had to leave and go back to the lodge.
Day 3 (Tuesday)
When we got up my wife was complaining she wasnt feeling 100% but we all headed for Epcot. We headed straight for Test Track where all of us were very impressed and enjoyed ourselves. We took a break and the wife yet again was stopping at all the smoking areas :brick: . We then went over to Mission Space and all opted for the Green Team and again all of us enjoyed that as well. We then went over to Honey I Shrunk the Audience and was upset to see that this had not changed a single bit, the 3D in my opinion was much to be desired and all of us including others were complaing about a blotchy effect in our right eye from the glasses... overall we all enjoyed ourselves with the little effects that are produced, my wife and kids screamed when the mice effect struck HaHaHa.
We then headed over the Seas with Nemo and friends but the kids spotted Mickey and the other characters inside a building so they wanted to get pictures. We stood in that line for 45 minutes and my wife and I gave up and headed out to grab yet another smoke and a water. We watched the line for Nemo get longer and longer and the wife started complaining again of not feeling well and having a migraine... the kids then came back from getting pictures and we got in line for Nemo... I had no clue how long that line was and then after all that waiting was left dumbfounded as to how stupid that ride is. I honestly can not believe that WDW would have wasted the money on that ride... that was a major dissappointment!
We went over to Le Cellier for dinner and had to wait almost 45 minutes to get seated. I had the chicken which was really good, wife and kids all the the filet mignon and all were happy with it. Wife was at the brink of tears with her migraine and had to leave before desert but we all stayed because we wanted to watch IllumiNations... and when we stepped out of Le Cellier it was raining AGAIN!! We grabbed ponchos and sat in the rain waiting for an hour and it continued to drizzle throught the show. Afterwards we headed back to the lodge where my wife was still in pain from the migraine.
Day 4 (Wednesday)
Got up early, went to AK and then jumped on a bus to AKL and had breakfast at Boma... WOW... what a fantastic meal. The french toast was TO DIE FOR!! And they even had a birthday card for my daughter as well as this neat little tray with these little cookies and candies and Happy Birthday Anna on the tray with gel icing.
We then headed over to AK but by the time we got their my wife was freaking out because of how bad her head was hurting and she had to go back to the lodge... we continued into AK but man the lines were out of this world. Trying to get anywhere with the crowds in general was a chore in itself. We got on Dinosaur and then went into Its A Bugs Life, which all of us were impressed with. We then headed over to Everest but the line was like 2 hours long and then fast pass was giving out times for 6 hours later. We trudged our was through the crowds and stood in line for 1hr 15mins for the safari but enjoyed ourselves with how many animals were out and about. We then headed over to Festival of the Lion King and all thought that was an awesome show... we then headed back to shower and all because we were having dinner at Chef Mickeys.
When we got to the lodge my wife was in such bad shape she was asking if there was a hospital close by. It took me over an hour between talking to the front desk and making various calls to finally get an ambulance to come but before it came I had to leave to be able to go to the Chef Mickeys for my youngest daughters BDay and cake I had ordered... so my oldest daughter went with my wife to the hospital while we headed to dinner. We missed the boat heading to MK to catch the monorail and then while waiting on the next boat I realized with all the confusion that dinner was for 5:00 PM not 6:00 PM. I tried calling CR but could only get a recording so figured at this point I would just hope they could still allow us dinner. We got there and I explained the situation and they had us a table in less then 3 minutes. Dinner was pretty good, though I was getting sick of buffets at this point lol... daughter enjoyed pictures with Pluto, Mickey, Donald, Minnie and Goofy. By the time dinner was over and all the excitment of the day we opted for heading back to the lodge to relax and wait for the wife to get back from the hospital.
Wife had to get a taxi back from the hospital (which was pretty cheap) and she was feeling good from all the meds they gave her... plus they gave her 2 prescriptions (nasua and pain). Which the lodge was able to fax over to a store and have them delivered for a very nominal charge.
Day 5 (Thursday)
Wife was feeling much better and we were picked up by a Mears shuttle and taken to SeaWorld. You could tell this was not a WDW park just by the crowds, which were on the light side. We went and saw the Shamu show which was cool and saw an otter show which was very good, minus of course when some guy that was getting in the row behind me clobbered me upside the head with a hard camera case and was seeing stars for about 5 minutes. Outside of those 2 shows we saw the shark exhibit which wasnt impressive and then watched them feed the dolphins. Outside of that there wasnt much to do so we called to be picked up and went back to the lodge for the afternoon.
Wife wasnt feeling 100% again so she stayed at the lodge while my daughters and I went to the Boardwalk and had dinner at Spoodles... kids had 4 cheese flatbread and I had garlic shrimp for a starter which were excellent and then the kids had Rigatoni with sausage and I had garlic shrimp linguine which was also excellent. We then headed to MK and did Stitches Great Escape... what a waste of a ride
! Then we headed to Space Ranger Spin and stood in line for about 20 minutes and jumped out of line since it hadnt moved an inch. We went over to Space Mountain but again the line was crazy and fast passes were sold out so we just headed back to the lodge.
Day 6 (Friday)
I went to MGM's morning EMH by myself, since everyone else wanted to sleep in... crowds werent too bad except for lots of Star Wars nuts. I went straight back to Backlot Tour... got lost and was going in circles for what seemed like forever and then finally found it just to see that it wasnt one of the EMH rides. So I sat not to far from the entrance in a smoking area puffing my heart out watching people get pics and autographs with Darth Vader. Someone from Backlot come out an opened the gates a half hour early and I got in line with about 6 other people and that quick they brought our little group in. We were told that the war boat part of the tour was not working so all they did was showed us how the big tank of water comes splashing into the building that someone from the audiance would have been in if it had been working and then showed us a few explosions and some machine gun hits on the water and then we moved onto the tram to show us the rest. Not impressed with that since the only real addition was the stunt show that you catch a small glimpse of.
I then headed to Star Tours which again I wasnt to impressed with and at that point I was trying to figure out my times so I could catch the stunt show and Indiana Jones... wife called and said she was heading over with the kids but told her she better hurry if she wanted to catch the stunt show... that made it with minutes to spare. We then went over and had a smoke near Indiana Jones and was able to jump in line for a mere 15 minute wait and enjoyed the show. Since Backlot Express was so good we headed back to there for a lunch again and we all had what we had earlier in the week and were still impressed
. We headed out of the park after that and called it a day. Had dinner at Trails End, not bad for yet another buffet.
Day 7 (Saturday)
Got to MK within a half hour of opening and saw the little opening ceremony for the first time... pretty cool. Made a mad dash when it opened for Big Thunder Mountain but the line was too long already so we grabbed fast passes and headed back to Splash Mountain which didnt have a long wait, was on it in less then a minute of getting in line... pretty cool for a first time riding it. We then headed back to Big Thunder Mountain where we stopped to have a smoke and I thought about if I wanted to get on or not. Wife didnt want to risk getting sick so she said no and the kids made a dash for the entrance so I opted to take a chance since everyone on here said it was mild... it was more mild then I expected!! I think it needs a big drop!! As my 2 kids and I were exiting Thunder Mountain a CM asked us if the 3 of us were together and when we said yes he pulled out 3 Dream Fast Passes and congradulated us WOOHOOOOOO!!!
Wife was a little upset she didnt win one but we made the best of those passes. We went back to Jungle Cruise and since I had been on it with past trips I gave my dream pass to her and she went on with the kids and enjoyed it. We then headed over to Space Mountain so the kids could use the dream pass there but after 10 minutes in line then came out saying Space Mountain was broke. The kids then used there dream passes to get on Ranger Spin and the wife and I got on TTA. Kids said Ranger Spin was as dumb as the Stitch ride and we then went into Carousel of Progress which they enjoyed. Then headed back to Space Mountain and it was still broke so we grabbed lunch at a hotdog cart and after my wife and I got out dogs the register broke and our girls coudlnt get anythings so they opted for some funnel cake.
We hit some stores and did some shopping. We stood up in front of where you catch the train and caught the Dreams Come True parade and my youngest daughter who loves the heck out of Goofy was wearing a Goofy hat and holding a stuffed Goofy and when Goofy passed us by he started jumping up and down while pointing at my daughter and yanking on on one of his ears... talk about a memorable moment and I was lucky enough to catch a great picture of him while doing it, that just made my daughters entire trip. Then we went to dinner at Tonys Town Square... meal was pretty good considering we all had spagetti and meatballs. Wife and oldest headed back to lodge to catch some pool time and my youngest and I headed to Space Mountain... it was finally opened and within 15 minutes she was outside claiming how awesome it was. We then caught Mickeys PhilharMagic, PeterPans Flight, Winnie the Pooh.... saw Mickey and Minnies houses... got a Goofy painted on her face. Also saw Hall of Presidents and got on the railroad for a quick ride around the world.
Day 8 (Sunday)
Packed all our stuff said our final goodbyes to WDW and headed to the airport... got to fly on a brand new (1 month old) 737 with AirTran and had a smooth flight with minimul panic attacks.
