Florida Residents
4 Day Play Pass MYW Base, No Hopping $169.34

http://www.allearsnet.com/pl/ticketchart.htm#MYW11
4 Day Play Pass Park Hopper $193.30

If you click the Buy button, you'd see this:

"Florida Resident Magic Your Way Tickets

Florida Residents can purchase Magic Your Way Base Tickets at discounted prices (discounted from what non-Florida Residents pay for Magic Your Way Base Tickets). For example, a Florida resident pays $159.00, plus tax for a 4-day Magic Your Way Base Ticket whereas a non-Florida Resident would pay $202.00, plus tax for the same ticket. And Florida Residents can add the Park Hopper Option, Water Park Fun & More Option, and the No Expiration Option to enjoy even more flexibility."

One reason, is that back in the end of 2000, and beginning of 2001 we were in the midst of a recession. Park attendance was dwindling, and Disney was desperate to get florida residents to fill the parks, because the rest of the country wasnt traveling, and the rest of the world was worse off then we were. there was much less international guests, and Florida residents were easily drawn in because of thier proximity to th parks. Attendance is now increasing, International guests are coming in droves, and there are many more potential guests now living in florida. All of these reasons contribute to a higher ticket price. Disney is a Business, and they really are there to make money, not subsidize the entertainment needs of Florida residents. Well see what happens in the next year or so if gas prices continue to climb, and the Economies of Europe start to slide. There may be a need to draw closer guests to the parks. So far there just isnt any slowdown for there to be be much of a huge discount for Florida residents yet. The discounts in place are still drawing from all over the US and Europe.

Resident seasonal pass

This makes the Resident Seasonal Pass at $230 seem like an absolute bargain (which I think it is). If the blackout dates are a problem, a full Annual Pass is not that much more.

7 1/2 years ago:

Now the special "deal" is this:
http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/flresidents/detailNews?id=FLResNewsPlay4DaysPassPage

A 60% increase in just 7 1/2 years is one thing. But to no longer allow park-hopping is pretty crappy if you ask me. I guess they're only giving their best deals to people who stay here for 2 weeks.
And why shouldn't they? A business model of giving more deals and cuts to big spenders is nothing new and definitely not unique to Disney.

2 week vacationers might spend a lot in 2 weeks.. but do they spend much more than local residents over the course of a few years? No.. it's just concentrated in those 2 weeks.

Florida residents should be rewarded for their many short visits (not to mention dining only visits) just as much if not more than an International guest doing a "1 and done" 2-week visit.

Do you have actual figures to back up that claim?

Us Florida residents are well rewarded for our patronage. The Fl resident seasonal pass is less than half the price of an out of state AP, we have had DDE for years, Florida resident rates on rooms that are near AP rates what more do you want?

FL resident perks are still pretty good..the taxes and insurance that we pay in order to own our houses make the cost of passes seem high....and the country is feeling a pinch while the rest of the world seems to be rolling in dough..if it makes you feel any better I have a financial advisor friend pulling his clients out of overseas markets(Europe included) because they are headed towards a 'major correction' as well(you think our housing prices got out of control..look at the UK..yikes!)...or at least he thinks so....he also thinks that we can buy down our national debt for pennies on the dollar during that correction. Let's hope he's right.

Master Yoda...you are correct sir!

Our seasonal passes are a steal compared to park ticket prices...and the renewals are even less if I remember correctly. We've already had 12 park days with our pass since late October...and I bet we've spent (other than the tickets) no more than $1200, for a total of about $2400...not even close to what a 2 week vacation would cost.

I think they're still missing out on a large segment of Florida residents. Yeah AP's are a good deal, but it's still a lot of money for a lot of people and much more than many need.

Take someone like my mom for example. She hasn't gone in probably a decade. It's a bit hard to drop over $70 for one day per person and she's not the type to go enough to spend $225-350 for a FL AP.

It's why the old Play 4 Days were such a good niche ticket. $99 for four, park-hopping days? Brilliant for the casual guest who likes Disney and would go more often if it were more reasonable in price. Or, at least, a better perceived value.

I hold that if there were better day or two discounts for FL residents, they'd change a lot of people's perception that Disney is insanely expensive. Especially when a FL resident can pay for one day at Busch Gardens or Sea World and come back all year. Yes, you and I see a difference between Busch Gardens and WDW, but the casual guest...? Might not really. Especially where such a large difference in price is concerned.

Hmmm to be honest £120 for an annual pass sounds good to me, seeing as we pay near enough £200 for a 2 weeks pass, near enough $400, yes that unlimited admission to waterparks and disney quest and park hopper but i still think thats good value.

It sill all falls back to supply and demand. Bush Gardens or Sea World do not offer the one day come back for the year because they want to or care about us Florida residents but because they have to. WDW offered the old 4 day play pass for $99 because they had to, pure and simple. Also the current Fl resident play 3 day pass is still a good deal at a 44% discount when compared to a regular non Florida resident 3 day ticket. You would be hard pressed to find a person from out of state that would not love that deal.

Is WDW leaving money on the table? Possibly, but look at current attendance. There is no off season, the parks or busy year round so they are obviously doing something right.

FL resident perks are still pretty good...

I was just thinking that.
While I understand that some folks will be upset at the increase, I'm afraid I can't generate a whole lot of sympathy....because after all...you DO live in Florida, one of the most beautiful and pleasant states in the country (in my opinion). And you DO live within a short drive of the best theme park in the country, so it's extremely cheap for you to go there, compared to the majority of us who don't live in Florida.
You're very lucky and I don't begrudge you a thing. But, really, you have NOTHING to complain about.

Your right- a tank of gas and a park ticket/ (or annual pass) some cash for food - you can call it a day! no plane tickets, hotel stay, ect.. I LOVE FLORIDA!!

I don't know that the OP was necessarily referring to the current value of the ticket -- most of us still feel that it's a pretty good value to go to WDW, even most Florida residents I imagine.

I think the main point is that the percentage increase seems high when factoring in inflation. BUT, as many people have alluded to, it's a business - when WDW becomes less popular, you will see lower prices!

As most businesses know, you have to strike while the iron is hot, sort of speak .. remember the lean years in the late 80s and 90s. There is always an ebb and flow.

I hear you - I'd love to live closer to the World.

And, by the way, Howdy neighbor!
