We first started to come to Disney in 1985. Id say 3 of our first 6-7 annual trips we spent staying at The Polynesian. By far our favorite of all the 16 we have stayed at...BUT its been so long since we have been able to stay there and being that we usually stay 10-12 days , paying bout $400 a night just makes no sense. Cost of Poly has gone through the roof. But no worry there are so many nice ones ,that you cant lose. Still...Polynesian will only be in our plans if we choose to go for like 2-3 days or split but dont see that coming anytime soon.

I know what you mean. I am looking at a receipt from the Grand Floridian for July 2001. My room price including taxes and fees were 305 for a lagoon room. I'm sure there is a discount in there, but the same room right now would cost you over $600 a night today with tax and fees. I know prices go up but talk about outpacing inflation.

Ah! The good old days when a beer was 10 cents and a coke & fries was 5 cents. Ah,do you remember these. In 1985 I was on holiday in the Canaries 2 weeks all inclusive for my partner and myself $1500. I agree that Disney prices go up.But here's a thing. Our first visit was in 2004 staying at CBR for one week, then Sheraton on I- Drive second week..Price with park tickets for Disney & Uni/ IOA & Seaworld approx $5500.. Turn the clock forward to 2012..Two weeks at PORS with 14 day park hopper approx $7000.. Not bad in 8 years.;)

I know it is expensive but to me it is worth it! We save all year round for this because this is what we enjoy. Nut there are lots of discounts that are always available - we have been 22 times and I used a discount every time except the first - I didn't know any different back then. We have stayed at the Grand Floridian, Boardwalk, BeachClub, AKL, PORQ, All Star Movies, Pop Century, and POR. My dream is to stay at the Poly, Contemporary and Wilderness Lodge - one day hopefully!

I used to stay at WL when the prices were a bit lower and I would use my annual pass to get a discount. I paid $135 a night at WL. Because those prices kept going up I opted to join DVC, which I am very happy with.

Hatter that is apples and oranges. The first trip you had you at Universal and Seaworld plus Disney. The tickets alone for those parks are going to double your ticket price, where spending 14 days at disney the average daily ticket price will be half since your going for so long. Run those numbers again for the same exact trip and I bet your higher than 7000. Actually even better just tell us the price of the Sheraton back then and what it is today.

As for the OPs point, he's right, I remember staying at the Poly in late 90s with my parents, no way Dad would have gone for it with the prices today...but if people are willing to pay it's all about supply and demand.

Yes, but you get those lovely UK discounts! I'm not jealous, though.:D

Disney hotel prices are ridiculous. You can get so much more for less if you don't stay in a WDW hotel.

The way to get the prices to come down is to stop paying them. If everyone said, "The hell with it. We aren't paying it," the prices would come down immediately. Bam! Just likethat. :)

So long as we pay it, we have nobody to blame but ourselves.

My good friend used to stay at the Poly or Contemporary tower every single trip when growing up. His parents were considering treating him to a trip for his bday and let's just say it was a nasty case of sticker shock with the exorbitant price increases. I will likely switch to a moderate if room discounts aren't offered for the fall. I'll miss the convenience, but my wallet will like slap me silly otherwise.

Prices for everything at WDW keep going up, not just the resorts. Food, park tickets, souvenirs... Man, I wish my salary would increase the way Disney prices do.... ;)

The problem I see with everything increasing the way they do is I don't feel like the resort prices warrant what they are charging. But if people keep paying, Disney will keep raising!!!

The prices are incredibly outrageous! We have to save much more money now than we ever used to for a Disney vacation. The cost of gas and/or a plane ticket # 1 is ridiculous! The POLY is being refurbished soon enough, and I'm sure the prices will continue to rise. We "normal" folks won't be able to afford a Deluxe in the next few years.:(

We always felt the same way, but then tried renting DVC points. It cuts a deluxe costs in half or even a bit more than half (55%).

As a travel agent, I have access to what might be the biggest discount that exists for hotel and tickets. $190 for a six day magic your way ticket that includes hopping and water parks and more. Most every deluxe for about $220 per night. And I still struggle tremendously to pay those prices. Before I was an agent we stayed at bonnet creek (right next to cbr) in 1 bedroom suites for $90 a night. We get free flights and rental cars from credit card sign up bonuses. We don't have kids. It's STILL very hard to afford, and we both have good jobs.

I'm a very positive person. I love disney and have been 20+times. We have always stayed at moderates with one exception- AKL with a great discount. I have to put in some reality here. Has anyone looked at prices on everything with this economy??? We are a 3 gallon of milk a week family (down from 4 with adult child living on her own) and my husband shreeks at the cost of milk. Everything is out of control and is only going to get worse. We save and do without lots of luxuries to go on vacation and I honestly don't think disney is worst then others. Anyone been to a football, basketball, PGA game, baseball, etc venue lately? It's all in what you want to spend your money on. My dream is to stay at the Polynesian. I can't afford it but when I can I will. PS, if the audubon zoo in NO (near us) gets any pricier they may start rivaling disney. hana

. Not really..The tickets were part of the package holiday..It's a lot cheaper to stay off site,as everyone will know.In 2008 we had the chance of a 2 centre vacation.1 week on & 1 week off..it was at least $500 less than staying 2 weeks on site..We decided that 2 weeks was what we wanted..on site..A bit like apples & oranges.;)

Our UK budget is soon..See all the people who complain about the price of 20 cigarettes 10 year ago when it was $4.50.When next week comes, the chancellor will raise a packet of 20 cigarettes to $9.00,all these same people will still be moaning, but will they give them up..In a answer. No! So to all those who complain about the price of Disney resorts.Stand up and be counted..Don't book another trip till they come down in price.Yeh! Like that's gonna happen.
