Although I was last there in 1981, I was wondering if Magic Mountain was still there? They had some pretty awesome roller coasters "back then".
They still do. Six Flags Magic Mountain is the self-proclaimed roller coaster capital of the world. It's the flagship park in the Six Flags chain, not just because it has the most coasters and attractions of any Six Flags park, but because it is open year-round.
Six Flags Magic Mountain currently has 18 different roller coasters, plus a couple dozen additional water rides and other attractions. Magic Mountain has a dozen major mega-coasters, but it's X2 and Tatsu coasters are considered to be not only the park's signature attractions, but two of the best and most intense roller coasters in America. It's widely considered as SoCal's thrill ride park, although it doesn't get mentioned much on Disneyland topics because of the inherent "unthemed" nature of Six Flags' type parks.

For 2012, Magic Mountain is adding the world's tallest drop ride built onto the side of the existing Superman: Escape From Krypton coaster tower. The Lex Luthor Drop of Doom will drop people from a record height of 400 feet.
There's also a seasonal water park next door, Six Flags Hurricane Harbor. Magic Mountain is located an hour north of Disneyland on the Golden State (I-5) freeway in Valencia.
