My First Trip Report

Hello there  and thanks for looking in on my first trip report. Ok, first some details to set the trip up for you. There are four of us that went on the trip, my wife Marsha, my parents and me. Marsha and I are in our 30’s, Mom and Dad are in their 50’s. Our schedule was set up to take into account that Mom isn’t big on thrill rides, both Mom and I eat really plain foods, and we would spend some time doing different things than my parents. We’re from Windsor, Ontario, Canada, which is just across the boarder from Detroit, Michigan. The trip started December 26th and lasted to January 5th, still not long enough! Some things I learned that I can’t stand :hurl:, the weather, things on wheels, people who can’t follow directions and stupid questions, but more on those later. On with the report!

Day 1 – Thursday, December 26th

Marsha arrives home from work and we finish some last minute packing. We go to dinner at a local restaurant before hitting the road. We make our way through customs and are on I-75 heading south by 7:00 p.m. just as planned! :sohappy: Before midnight and we’re out of the snow and making our first stop for fuel at Lexington, Kentucky.

Day 2 – Friday, December 27th

Instead of traveling I-75 straight through to Florida, we decided to turn east at Knoxville, Tennessee. The route seamed to be shorter and had us go through North and South Carolina before entering Georgia which can take forever when traveling I-75! Second stop for fuel, 5:00 a.m. at Spartanburg, South Carolina. Next stop was for breakfast at Denny’s just outside Savannah, Georgia. Haven driven trough the night I was beat, Dad took over driving. We gassed up and were back on the road by 9:00 a.m. We were making great time and it looked like we were going to break our record of 16 hours. That was until we hit I-95 in Florida. We’re talking construction, heavy traffic and accidents all over the place. We finally reach I-4 and bam, more construction, traffic and accidents. At 2:00 p.m. we made our first stop in Orlando, the Disney Outlet Store inside Beltz Factory Outlet. This is where Disney closes out all of their merchandise from WDW. All of us stepped out of the minivan and shed our winter jackets and sweaters to enjoy the sunny afternoon. After some shopping we checked in to the Lake Buena Vista Comfort Inn just outside WDW near the Crossroads. Nice hotel, reasonably priced but very busy! To our surprise the T.V. included the WDW planning channel “zip pi di do da, tip for today!”. The hotel also provided complementary shuttle service directly to all four WDW parks, pretty cool. After a short nap :snore: while watching an NFL game at the same time, we got ready for dinner. We had priority seating reservations at 6:00 p.m. for the Concourse Steakhouse at the Contemporary Resort. This was our first time to dine at the Steakhouse, and it was awesome. The steaks lived up to their billing, and those red, garlic, mashed potatoes, simply yummmmmy! :slurp: Dessert consisted of chocolate cake which had layers of strawberry jam in it, I didn’t care for it. :hurl: A Jewish family of about 12 people was seated next to us. Since they must eat kosher foods I’m still trying to figure out why they would eat at a steakhouse? Anyhow, the atmosphere was very nice, but the lighting was a bit dark. Always fun to watch the monorail trains whoosh by. As the ladies still hadn’t had their fill of shopping we were off to the Marketplace. No purchases this time, just scoping the place out for later in the week. We called it a night at about 10:00 p.m.

Day 3 – Saturday, December 28th

Marsha and I had planned on going to Blizzard Beach in the morning. We thought the timing was great as this was the last day that Blizzard Beach would be open before going down for its annual rehab. So, we thought we would get to visit both Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon on the same trip; usually one of the two is closed when we visit. But alas, it was too cold to go swimming :( so we slept in. When we all got up, we decided to take Mom and Dad through Celebration (actual town built by Disney) as they had never been there. This included some more shopping while at Celebration. We then decided to go to the Animal Kingdom Lodge as none of us had been there before. Since we had no plans for lunch we thought we would give Boma’s a try, I read some good things about it so off we went. Unfortunately I forgot that Boma’s doesn’t serve Lunch! :hammer: So we walked around the Lodge anyways to check it out. Very nice, but as none of us are really into animals and we were really getting hungry, we didn’t stay very long. We decided to eat at TGI Fridays near our hotel. I have to say, when they tell you that they have hot chicken gumbo; you better believe that it’s spicy hot! We didn’t have any plans until dinner so we drove around WDW and then went for, yes more shopping! This time we were off to the Florida Mall. All I can say is busy, busy, busy! I can’t remember seeing the roads so busy in Orlando, or the mall for that matter. But a couple purchases and few hours later and were on our way to dinner. We had priority seating reservations for 6:00 p.m. at ‘Ohana in the Polynesian Resort. Marsha was the only one who had ever been to the Poly and that was when she was just a little kid. For those who don’t know, there is no menu here, everyone gets served the same things, and it’s all you can enjoy! The food again was awesome, and it kept coming and coming and you didn’t even have to ask for more. In fact, they almost get mad at you when you tell them that you can’t eats no more! :zipit: The desserts looked very tasty, but you’re so stuffed from dinner you can’t do it! We had a table with a great view of Cinderella’s castle. The lighting was a bit dark here as well but fit the atmosphere perfectly. One of the big complaints that I had heard was that the kids run all over the place. While there were lots of families (‘Ohana means family after all!), this was not the case. Every once in a while there would be activities for the kids which kept them occupied, it was very cute. There was a family sitting next to us and one of the children had special dietary needs. The server actually had the Head Chief come talk to the parents and the Chief made a special dish for the child, very cool. Oh, and I forgot to mention that this was mom’s birthday. The entertainer who was singing and keeping the kids occupied came over, presented Mom with a birthday cupcake, announced that it was my mom’s 16th birthday and sang happy birthday in Hawaiian and then the room sang happy birthday in English. Wait, the day isn’t over yet! Mom and Dad had never been to the Grand Floridian so we took a monorail ride. And what timing the piano player had the Christmas music going. The giant Christmas tree was in it usual location, as was the huge ginger bread house. We usual stop in for lunch at the Grand Floridian Café, but simply couldn’t fit it in the schedule, so this would be our only stop at the Grand Floridian. Then we were off to Downtown Disney. For my mom’s Christmas and Birthday present we bought her tickets to see the Cirque Du Soleil show at 9:00 p.m. that evening. My parents went to the show and we walked around, yup you guessed it, shopping! After the show let out, we returned to the hotel and called it a night. Wow, we sure did a lot in only two days and haven’t even been to a park yet! Next day, Epcot.

I've got a silly question for you: Would you explain which way you went out of Knoxville to save your time? I'm a map/trip planning nerd, and I've never heard of someone doing that. Your WDW experience so far sounds great!

If going by strictly interstate, I'm guessing I-40 and then I-26 until you hit I-95 and then finally I-4.

Trip Route

Sandjhooker, turkey leg boy got it dead on. I-75 to Knoxville, I-40 to I-26 at Ashville to I-95 and down to I-4 at Daytona. I had never thought of that route either, but all of the online map services came up with it.

As I mentioned in my report we normally just take I-75 to the Florida Turnpike into Orlando. We have also taken (home form Florida) I-4 to I-95 at Daytona to I-26 to I-77 all the way to Cleveland then west on I-80/I-90 and finally I-75 at Toledo to Detroit. We have done both of these routes in 16 hours.

If it wasn't for the construction and accidents we would have made it in about 15 hours on the new route.

Hope this helps.

Certainly does. I would have never thought of going that way; I was weaned, cut my teeth, hit puberty, and my wife gave birth on I-75. :D I sometimes think that's the only interstate in the country as much as I have traveled on it!

I deal with trucks and routes all day everyday,I-75 is the fastest because its all interstate.rule #1 when traveling is stick to major highways and rule# 2 is never take a short cut.and men if you get lost, stop and ask for directions, alot of truck drivers do and they drive for a living.also if you ask a truck driver for directions, most will be more than willing to help you.

This may be the fastest and easiest way to get somewhere, but I find that some of the best adventures occur when you take time to enjoy things besides the smell of diesel fumes and the sight of billboards on the interestate. Its amazing the sites you can see and people you'll meet, if you simply open yourself up to travelling the road less travelled.

Part Two

Day 4 – Sunday, December 29th

On with the show! The day began early with a $4 all you can eat breakfast at the hotel. Unfortunately, a glass of juice or milk was also $4! It was extremely chilly so the shorts stayed packed for another day. The hotel shuttle to Epcot didn’t leave when we wanted to leave so Dad drove Marsha and I to the front gate (Mom and Dad were on their own this day). We arrived at Epcot at 8:30 a.m. and the park was already open. First things first, we looked up our Leave a Legacy tiles that we purchased in February, 2001 while in WDW for our wedding. There we were still smiling on the front far right block. We always send family and friends to try and find us; it’s kind of like our own little hidden Mickey. Normally we have a plan of attack and we usually hit every attraction before the day is out. However, this being the Christmas holiday week, we knew that it would be really busy at the parks. So, we decided that on this trip we wouldn’t rush, we would take a more leisurely approach to the parks taking time to smell the roses if you will. We also knew that we had a second almost full day planned for Epcot later in the trip. The only attraction that we had to do this day was Body Wars, since Mom wasn’t with us but would be on the second day.

Our first stop, Test Track of course! Wouldn’t you know it; it was closed due to technical problems! So we moved along, stopping at Mission Space to take a few pictures of the yet to open attraction. It sure does look impressive; I only hope that it fills those big shoes left behind by Horizons (my favorite Epcot attraction). We took in Ellen’s Energy Adventure at Universe of Energy, then Cranium Command and Body Wars at Wonders of Life. We stopped back at Test Track which was now running with a 90 minute stand by wait and fast pass times in late afternoon. So, fast pass it was, and on to both sides of Innoventions, “O Boy” we got all the answers right at the Story Behind the Magic station, and how could we walk by Mouse Gear without stopping to shop? One of the exhibits was the Segway, which we noticed cast members using all over Future World as the day went on, pretty cool. Just imagine, maybe someday we’ll all scoot around WDW using Segways! Next was The Living Seas. All I can say is that this attraction has been in dire need of a major rehab since it opened. So far so good, no wait for any attraction. But we were closing in on lunch time. We were meeting my parents at the ESPN Club at the Boardwalk for lunch to watch the Lions play the Vikings, I know, I know stop that laughing. Actually Marsha loves the Dingers (chicken fingers) and I love the Hockey Pucks (chocolate covered brownie with ice cream). We had been looking forward to this lunch for months. However, the Patriots were playing the Dolphins at the same time and the club was full before noon. Since we planned to be there for the length of the game anyways, and we could see all the games from the line, we waited two hours to get in. As you might guess we ended up paying more attention to the Patriots / Dolphins game. When the game was over, we were off to Epcot once again.

First stop, Journey Into Imagination with Figment. We walked right in, no kidding. We were both happy to see Figment return, in fact there is more of him now than in the original. Two big thumbs way up from us. Next we took in Honey, I shrunk the Audience, again no wait. Then we moved next door to The Land. There was a long line for Living with the Land, so we picked up a fast pass. We then watched Food Rocks, boy I sure miss Kitchen Cabaret, Veggie Veggie Fruit Fruit! Then it was time to use our Test Track fast pass. But on our way to Test Track we noticed that there was no wait for Space Ship Earth so we stopped there first. After Test Track we headed for the World Showcase. We rode El Rio Del Tiempo, the boat ride in Mexico, walk on. Skipped Maelstrom, there was a long line. We watched the Wonders of China movie, wanted to see it before it gets changed. It was now time to use our Living with the Land fast pass but we didn’t feel like walking all the way back so we just continued walking around World Showcase. When we made it to the American pavilion we had a choice to make, we could watch The American Adventure or the Candlelight Processional with Jodi Benson (Arial). Marsha’s favorite movie is the Little Mermaid so you know which show we went to see. And I’m glad that we got to see it, it was fantastic. It was now closing in on 9:00 p.m. which is when we were to meet my parents at Beaches and Cream at the Beach Club Resort. For those of you keeping track, the only attractions that we missed were Living with the Land, Maelstrom, The American Adventure, Impressions de France, O Canada!, Tapestry of Dreams Parade and Illuminations, and don’t forget we left the park for five hours! Beaches and Cream is a small counter service 50’s type soda joint with juke box! We had a 15 minute wait to get it, it’s always busy. We saw two groups of people order the Kitchen Sink. What’s that you ask? Well it’s just every desert item they sell put together and served in a kitchen sink! They cost $22, but if you can eat one by yourself in under an hour, it’s free. Apparently only one person has ever done it. The burgers are really good here as are all of the different desserts. When we were finished it was back to the hotel to climb into bed to get ready for the next day, Disney – MGM Studios.

Day 5 – Monday, December 30th

The weather finally warmed up and out came the shorts. We skipped breakfast and headed straight for the Studios. Mom and Dad came with us for the day. Mom was with us so we skipped Tower of Terror, Rock N’ Roller Coaster and Star Tours. But don’t freak out on me here, Marsha and I would be returning later in the week for a second day at the Studios. When we arrived we headed straight for the hat and the Story Behind the Magic, and got all of the questions correct again. Next up, The Great Movie Ride, we walked right on. We then headed towards the Animation building and noticed that there was no wait for Voyage of The Little Mermaid and walked right in, we had just caught a show starting, what timing! After the show we walked through One Man’s Dream, love the exhibits, especially the show at the end. We were getting kind of hungry so we headed for Pizza Planet. When we got there it wasn’t open yet, had to wait 15 minutes. When they did open, they weren’t really ready to open, but the cast member working the counter was great. He gave us free cookies for waiting and upsized all of our drinks, see you do get free stuff from Disney! After we finished our breakfast we went into see Muppet Vision 3-D, again no wait. We walked along the back of the park to see the Toy Story gang at Al’s Toy Barn. We stopped to mourn the loss of the Hunchback of Notre Dome Theater, the benches were already gone. We made our way over to the Studios Backlot Tour, had to wait just one group / show. The tour by the way no longer goes through the sound stages. That really shouldn’t surprise anyone as this is the attraction that has changed more times since its opening than any other attraction at WDW. We headed back down the backlot towards Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, fast passes would be required at this one, but the issue time conflicted with a priority seating so we moved along. We decided to stop in and see The Magic of Disney Animation. But to our surprise who should be waiting to great guests, Lilo and Stitch, we took a couple pictures while waiting for the next Animation tour. This is definitely the better of the two tours at the Studios. FYI, the animated movie Bears which is in production at the Florida Studio has been bumped up to be released this fall! And how about the Disney classics movies at the end of the tour, is it just me or does anyone else get all chocked up?

Well at this point we’re now late for our lunch priority seating reservation for the Hollywood Brown Derby. We checked in and waited 20 minutes for a table, not so bad! This was the first time any of us had dined at the Derby. Steak and those yummy red garlic mash potatoes were the order of the day again. And they were just as tasty as everywhere else in WDW. I have to say, dining in this restaurant you feel like you should be wearing a tuxedo or at least a nice suit, all the cast members are after all! This was a very nice dining experience, but felt kind of out of place for a theme park, but if you’re going to have the Derby in the park I guess it’s got to be that way or it wouldn’t be the Derby! Just as we were finishing with lunch it was time for the Disney Stars Car Parade. We picked our spot right next to the TV Studio building where Doug Live use to be to watch the parade. Say, anyone else think they should put the original show back into the TV Studio, maybe with current ABC shows? Anyhoo, the parade was nice but the park all of a sudden got really, really busy. We headed to Millionaire, picked up a fast pass and decided to take in the last two shows starting with the Beauty and the Beast show. The costumes of this show still amaze me. Then we crossed back over to the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular. This show was a mad house, standing room only, which is really saying something since this show hasn’t changed a bit since its opening. We were late again for priority seating reservation, this time for dinner at Mama Melrose’s. It’s a good thing we had priority seating because none of the restaurants were taking walk ins. This was another new restaurant for all of us to try. The restaurant was kind of out of the way, hard to notice. It was themed right and the kitchen was in full view which was nice. The food was good, but not great. Ok, three meals in one day, two being large meals and we’re stuffed so we decided to walk a little. We walked through the Osborn Family Christmas Lights which none of us had seen before. There are more than 5 million lights in this puppy. And leave it to Disney to actually make it snow in Florida each night, very cool. We were then off to use our Millionaire fast pass. I would love to get into that hot seat and have a chance to win that Disney Cruise. Actually, the two people who did make it to the hot seat during our show had both already been in it before. Wish I knew what the secret was! Oh and the whole Reigis opening is gone from the show too. And finally to round out the night we went to see Fantasmic. It’s true what they say about the late show, it’s the easiest to get a seat for; there were two complete sections of seats that were empty. The show is really good, but the one in Disneyland (California) is a bit better because of the setting. Now, for those keeping score we missed Star Tours, Sounds Dangerous, Playhouse Disney, Rock N Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror. Well it was off to bed, big day coming up, New Years Eve at the Magic Kingdom!

I was in the hot seat last January and I can tell you the secret...I was chatting up my normal conversation with the people (I didn't know) sitting next to me...aka...bothering the tourists! and I was there with my mother. She was jabbing me saying they are asking the question... I reached down without missing a beat in my conversation and punched a bunch of buttons. Next thing I knew, I was in the hot seat. I was scared to death, but had a great time. Got to 32K before I bailed. It isn't as easy as it looks, very nerve racking for me...being up there on the spot in front of all those people. The older couple I befriended were really nice. I could hear them cheering for me the whole time. Then the man asked if he could take my photo in the hot seat and email it to me, since I didn't have a camera. I got it the next day at home...a special momento of that day!

Looking forward to the rest of your report. In fact...I am enjoying it so much, I am thinking of calling Disney later to book a trip!

People Watching Side Thoughts

Ok, time to get some pet peeves off my chest. The first one begs the question why don’t people just chill out? While we were waiting in line for the Indiana Jones Stunt Show there was this family ahead of us that I really felt sorry for. Like I said it was really busy at this point in the day. The line for the show spilled out in the walkway towards Star Tours. Being a busy day, when the line started to move some people entered the line right at the entrance instead of the end of the line which you couldn’t really see. The lady in the group ahead of us, who appeared to be the mother of the group, began complaining about how Disney should do a better job with their lines. Then went on about how she couldn’t believe that they had to wait in lines all day and hadn’t really been on anything. Hold on, it gets better! She actually said that they “should have went to Universal, I bet they don’t have problems with their lines”. So I’m thinking to myself, oh no lady its just WDW that’s wall to wall people during the holiday season. So anyhow the line continues to move, but then we stop at the end of the line just before you enter the theater. Now she starts to complain that they better get in to see this show or there all leaving, which I’m thinking might not be such a bad idea! While we’re waiting for the crowd to move into the theater, a few people with fast passes are admitted. Now she really started to let off steam, “why should they get to go in, we’ve been waiting all this time, everyone should have to wait?” Now it all makes sense to me, she has no idea how fast pass works and has no intention of finding out, no wonder they have been waiting in lines. As you all know anyone can use fast pass which her and her family could have taken advantage off so it’s her own fault. We did get into the theater to see the show, but I mean come on, we waited like 20 minutes to see a show during a holiday period, pretty good if you ask me. Oh, and we got seats too. Like I said, I felt so bad for the rest of her family; I couldn’t imagine being on vacation and having to listen to it the whole trip.

This second one has to do with, why can’t people read? Later in the day we were early at Who Wants to be Millionaire, we had 40 minutes to wait for our show to start. So the four of us found a nice bench just outside the fast pass entrance and people watched. This is sometimes the best entertainment going! There was a mother and here little boy, maybe 4 or 5 years old. They approached the cast member at the fast pass line asking if they could get in. Unfortunately the show had already started, their fast pass expired and they were late. The lady went on and on and on, giving this big sob story using just about every excuse in the book as to why they were late. I kind of felt like I was back in math class! Then she pulled out all the stops, “they were late because her son needed to stop for a potty break”. I’m thinking to myself, poor kid is going to need years of therapy. I also felt so bad for the cast member, its not like he could do anything, the show already started which usually means the theater is full. It might have been a different story if it were a ride but not at a show, and definitely not that far past the fast pass time. Some peoples kids!

Not all Jews eat Kosher, it's not a requirement or anything. Either way, there isn't anything non-kosher about steaks!

Part Three

Day 6 – Tuesday, December 31st

We began to get up at 6:00 a.m. The plan was to skip breakfast and get to the Magic Kingdom early. Not worried about eating as we had an early lunch reservation. The last time we were at the Magic Kingdom for New Years Eve the park closed at 10:00 a.m. When we arrived, the park was already open and there was a nice size crowd already there. Our first stop was at the Stories Behind the Magic, and yes we got all the questions correct again. We took a few pictures here, we were the only people in the whole area. We made our way to Tomorrowland through the Plaza Terrace. Most of the people in Tomorrowland were at Space Mountain, which worked for us since Mom was with us anyways. Marsha & I would be back later in the week on our own to ride the mountains. So the first stop was Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin and we walked right on. Next up was Tomorrowland Transit (WED Way), the super highway in the sky. It was nice to hear “Paging Mr. Morrow, paging Mr. Tom Morrow, your party from Saturn has arrived please give them a ring!” Oh, and we got to hear “now approaching Walt Disney’s Carrousel of Progress”, which is what we did next. Anyone else ever wonder what happened to the second daughter in the storyline? In the “turn of the century” section, there is a second daughter that helps mom do the laundry but we never see her again! Our show wasn’t very busy as it was the first show of the day, but it did have a line up the rest of the day. Next up was the Time Keeper, we were able to walk right in as a show was just starting. The theater was pretty busy, but not completely full. Well that was it for Tomorrowland, we made our way to Mickey’s Toontown Fair. We took some pictures of Minnie’s and Mickey’s houses and then boarded the WDW Railroad for Frontierland. We walked by Country Bear Jamboree on our way Adventureland. We took in The Enchanted Tiki Room Under New Management, only a short wait. We like both the original and the new show, wouldn’t say either is better than the other. Glad they left the basic story and updated some aspects, very well done. Next up was Pirates of the Caribbean, just a short wait. Finally time to eat! We had lunch priority seating reservations for Cinderella’s Royal Table. Mom and Dad had never been to this restaurant before, Marsha and I make it a must stop on every trip. Our table was right against the window overlooking Fantasyland, awesome! The food was outstanding as always. We started out with Beef Barley Soup, then what else would you have but Prime Rib and yup, red garlic mashed potatoes? Yummy, yummy! Seated at the next table was an Asian family that didn’t speak any English. The little boy was so cute, he had a hamburger and fries, kept holding the burger up and yelling hamburger, hamburger. He took one bit out of the burger and just kept petting it like it was his little pet.

When we left Cinderella’s Castle, we noticed that our nice sunny day had gotten really windy, strange! Also noticed that the crowds had gotten a lot bigger, at first we thought it was just because we were in Fantasyland, but it was just as busy at Liberty Square. We picked up fast passes from the Haunted Mansion and took in The Hall of Presidents. Anyone else notice that the George W. Bush animatronic actually speaks better than the real person? We then set sail for a trip around the Rivers of America. Great way to get away from the crowds for about 20 minutes! We headed towards the Country Bear Jamboree, but Mickey’s Christmas Parade was about to begin so we stopped to watch. I’m not going into great detail about the things I saw adults letting children do to watch the parade, but sometime you just shake your head and wonder if these people have any brain at all! I think if we hadn’t just finished lunch Dad would have had a turkey leg right there as we were standing right next to one of the carts. When the parade was over we made it to the Country Bear’s. We had to wait 20 minutes for the next show which wasn’t so bad since the parade just ended. Finally when we did get into the theater, there is this group of people that stop right in the middle of the row about 3 rows in front of us. Now is there anyone, anywhere who hasn’t been to the Magic Kingdom and hasn’t memorized the speech by noon? There is no eating, drinking or smoking, no video recording that uses am external light and if you wish to take pictures please wait until the grand finally when all the curtains are open. Please move all the way to the end of the row so that everyone behind you can enter the theater. And as always, even after the cast member gives the speech the people just sit there like they own the place. So, I stand up and yell hey you, you in the black sweater, she was talking to you, please move all the way down to the end of the row. The crowd cheers me and the cast member gives me a smile and a wink. Well, I didn’t really do that but who hasn’t wanted to? After the show there is still a big crowd outside, we figure that the park has to be closed by now it’s really crowded. Time to use our Haunted Mansion fast pass so off we go. This is still probably my favorite Magic Kingdom attraction. And it’s still a hoot to find all of the hidden Mickey’s and the one hidden Donald! We then cut across the hub back to Tomorrowland grab a fast pass for Buzz and take in Mickey’s Christmas Show at the Tomorrowland outdoor theater. Three of us actually fell asleep waiting for the show. When the show is over we ride Buzz, Tomorrowland Transit and Carousel again. We decided to walk around Fantasyland for a bit and noticed that there was a 2 hour wait for Peter Pan’s Flight and the fast pass return time was for midnight, it was only about 5:30 p.m. crazy I tell you, craaazy! So, we rode It’s a Small World after a 20 minute wait.

We then headed to the Columbia Harbor House for dinner. Dad went and got his turkey leg, we had fish, chicken and fries. This has always been our favorite counter service restaurant. But I have to tell you that on this trip they seem to have cut back on the portion size and the type of fish they use. The meal was still ok, but no where near what we usually get, a little disappointing. Well the first Spectromagic Parade was about to begin so it was really really really crowded. We decided to get our clothes from the lockers at the Main Street Train Station as it looked like rain was on the way. On our way, cast members where handing out top hats and horns along the parade route. Actually they were being handed out since 4:00 p.m., did I mention how much I had those horns. Imagine having to listen to them for 8 hours long! On our way up Main Street we stopped half way just inside the Emporium and watched the parade go by. When it was over we got our bags and then it happened, the skies opened up and it started to rain. So what else do you do when it rains, yup we shopped. When we got tired of that we made our way to Casey’s on the Corner hoping that the rain would slow down. The idea was that we would go back to Tomorrowland and get on some of the indoor attractions while it rained. Well, it rained, it thundered, there was lighting and it just kept raining. Its amazing how quickly all those yellow Mickey ponchos appear! We stood at Casey’s and watched the masses leave the park. To our surprise there were Fireworks in the sky, they let off the Fantasy in the Sky Fireworks early because of the thunder storm that was projected to get worse in the next little while. They later cancelled the second Spectromagic parade because of the storm. Well the rain never stopped, but at midnight there was still a crowd, all on Main Street that rung in the new year with the usual Fireworks over Cinderella’s Castle. Then we all headed for the exits, we were back at the hotel by 12:45 a.m.! We had never gotten out of WDW on New Years before 1:30 a.m., ever! There was water everywhere, it rained so much that the parking lot was flooded in areas. Alright here’s the score, we missed Astro Orbiter, Alien Encounter, Space Mountain, Indy, Fantasyland, Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, Magic Carpets of Aladdin, Jungle Cruise and the Tree House. More to come!

Thanks DDGambit

Thanks for the info DDGambit, honestly I really had no idea. Just thought that was the case because this group seemed to be making a really big fuss.
