My Disneyland line story

ok, i was talking about indiana jones in another thread and recalled a story of the first time i rode it...

Insane wait times story: :p

OK, so i went to Disneyland when indiana jones 1st opened. we had early admission from our hotel so we wee admitted an hour before the general public. We went straight to indiana jones. we waited 45 minutes in line to get on. we decided we would get right back on, but the line was 2 and a half hours by the time we got off, so we passed.

Later in the day, we were over by Big Thunder Mountain and Splash Mountain and we saw a roped off line, like makeshift line with polls and ropes. (keep in mind that that is in fantasyland and indiana jones is in adventure land, different areas of the park) so anyway, we see that the line isn't for splash mountain or big thunder mountain, and cant figure out what it's for. so we ask the CM at the end of the line what it's for. he tells us it's for indiana jones. i said "isnt indiana jones over in adventureland?" he told me yeah, and when i asked how long the wait was do u know what he said?... 9 and a half hours!

that's not even the best part, i asked some people in line i they knew it was
9 ½ hours and they said "oh they say that but it will probably only be like 5 or 6 hours" :hammer:

!!!! The longest I've ever waited for a ride was an hour and 45 minutes and that was way to long. could u imagine getting in line for a ride after they told u that???? :dazzle:

I have never waited more than an hour in any park. I left six flags in jersey because lines were 90 plus minutes. I come to enjoy myself not wait around and do nothing i can do that at home.

I remember those days. I still have my secret decoder card the CM's would hand out, so you could decipher the heiroglyghs(sp) on the walls while you waited. I remember they were as lame as,"Eat at Mickey's Cafe." I need a trip to DL.

I have not been to disneyland in several years..but im pretty sure Big Thunder and Splash are not in fantasyland...
not only that, at DL, they're not even near EACH OTHER

maybe he's just remembering wrong though, getting the geography of DL and MK mixed up is pretty easy

longest i ever saw for IJA was 5 hours back in '96, basically the entire "street" of Adventureland was the queue, all the way back to the hub

I cant say much...I waited 4-1/2 hours in line last year to buy a LE Darth Mickey.

In retrospect it was actually a pretty good time. Made some new friends, met a horticulturist that has worked for WDW since before Epcot, and at the end got one of the Last Darth Mickeys.

DOH! :hammer:

i should have double checked first buti knew they were in different "lands" from indiana jones...Hey i'm 26 now and my research shows that disneyland opened in 1995, so it was 11 years ago cut me some slack :o

I actually meant to say Frontierland. but i remember i could see both of the rides and basically ascertained that the line wasn't for either of those...

sorry.

anyway, the line was 2 long! :)

any ride that long to wait and i'll just go back next year :D

we plan on going straight to the mummy right when the park opens. we only got front of the line passes for IOA. hopefuly it works out...

that just doesnt seem reasonable! i mean who would want to wait 9.5 hours for a ride! that would literally wipe out the rest of your day, you would not be able to do anything else. plus after a certain point they would just have to close the line and be like sorry you wont get on before the park closes

i concur, but the ride was super duper popular at the time... also, people got their seats in front at fantasmic when the park opened (it's an evening show). i could somewhat see why because the crowd for the show was horrific, and i do mean HORRIFIC, as in u couldn't move, shoulder to shoulder standing room only, took 30 minutes to get to the exit after the show type of crowds, but who want to spend their whole day sitting by the lake? :veryconfu

i would totally go INSANE, literally, waiting in that line.

If it was during a grand opening I could see it happening.

Let be honest, if we were told that we could have ridden E:E a week before cast member previews how many of us would have camped out over night to do so.

not me. granted i only get to go every 2-3 years so the thought of blowing a whole day on one attraction is crazy. however, if i lived in the area and had an annual pass i would easily do that. hell id skip work!

i would just run to the ride when they opened the gates :D

i remember when universal opened back to the future, there were people running to it as soon as the park opened. we didn't know what they were running to, but we figured it was something good so we ran right with them.

here's another random line story, at cedar point one time, the line guy had some sort of english/british accent and we asked him how long the wait was and couldnt figure out if he was saying "4 to 5" minutes or "fourTY five" minutes (actually we were asking how long before the ride would reopen after some rain had stopped). we asked him to repeat it like 10 time and left without ever being sure what he said.

here's my line tip for not wasting your day. i dont know if they do this at disney and universal or not, but in the ONE time i waited in line forever (1 hour and 45 minutes) it was when The Raptor opened at Cedar Point (another one of my favorites). We didnt want to wait all day, so we got in the line 10 minutes before the park closed and they let us in it. so we got quite an extended day! that place was so empty when we left. :)

::sigh:: just like the old days of the mountain marathons in MK. like trying to outrun the wildebeast stampede from the lion king... i loved it

When Indy first opened it was very normal for the queue to be all of adventureland have a small cross over in front of the side entrance to fronterland then go down Main St. I know that I saw it during that first summer down one side of Main St. then up the other. We all look at attraction openings now and think 2 hours is too much but back in the day before Fastpass (which does help) 2 hours was nothing for a summer day. Plus you have to remember with every new attraction (espically ones that have brand new ride systems) it takes a while to get the system running perfectly.

I don't want to doubt you, but I find it very hard to believe that there was a 5, 6, or 9 hour wait for anything. The line would be wound around the park. For that one attraction? I'm sorry, but you must be misinformed. Not possible

They said that it was 9.5 hours and it was lined up all the way into another "land" in the park. It definitely happened that way. But hey, i don't blame u for doubting. i might not believe it either if i didnt see it for myself.
