MVMCP - Worth it?

I am taking the family to WDW to celebrate DH's 40th birthday and I was thinking of buying tickets to attend MVMCP. We are usually at WDW during the Christmas celebration but have never purchased tickets for that event. To anyone who has gone in the past - did you feel it was worth it? I know that just being at WDW is wonderful but I just wanted to know what were the great features of the event. We have two kiddos, 6 & 3, so it sounds like fun but I just wanted some opinions and experiences. Thanks!

You know, there is plenty of Disney Magic there to behold at the holidays that it just isn't really necessary, IMHO.

However, I have gone once and I loved it, being there later, it wasn't crowded at all as we went in early Dec on a week night and the parade. I'm not a parade person but felt obligated to find a spot and watch it since I had splurged on the tickets and I really enjoyed it.

So, you won't be cheating yourself out of anything if you choose not to but you'll enjoy it if you go. Guess it depends on your budget...

I feel the same way about the Halloween party. I've been twice since I had my Grandson with me and I probably won't do it again since I've found the Boo to You parade on Youtube!

Yes. If you have never been. You may also want to review some prior threads on the subject.

Last year my wife and I went for the first time. It was awesome! I know it is expensive, especially if you have a family, but I think it is worth it.
The atmosphere is great, there are fewer guests, and it's just so magical. I wish I could go this year!

Awesome event

My family and I did MVMCP in December 2007. It was awesome and well worth the money. The extra parade and fireworks are amazing and the basically no wait to go on the rides were great. My daughter was about 17 months when we were there and she loved every second of it. We are going to be doing MNSSHP in October next year and I hope that it is as much fun as MVMCP! Have fun!:animwink:

Have attended every year for the past 10 years, with the exception of MNSSHP one year. Have booked it again this year - crowds not bad at all, lots of walk-ons to rides. Parade is one of the best WDW does and the fireworks are simply great.
Lots of cookies and coco too!!
Well worth it.
We make dinner reservations just before the park clears of non MCMCP guests and this avoids the mass exodus. This is one event that you don't want to miss if you don't usually go to WDW at this time of year.

We did it for the first time last year on the final night of our December trip and while I don't know if we'd do it again- I'm glad we did it once. We didn't really get to see much in the way of the stage shows and the one character m&g we wanted to do (Seven Dwarfs) had a line that looked like it stretched all the way to Epcot :lol: but the parade was awesome, the fireworks were incredible, the cocoa and cookies were super delish :slurp:, and all of the CMs were really in the spirit of things. :xmas: It's kind of funny, but after Osborne Lights, the little bit of holidays around the world that we got to do, hotel decorations, and then capping our trip off with MVMCP- I actually wanted to leave WDW and get home so I could decorate our house and wrap gifts. :D

MVMCP is definitely worth it. My wife and I went last year while in town for the F&W festival. Going back this year with the kids. We have two young ones who are really into Christmas. I am very excited for them to see the parade, fireworks, etc. You have to experience walking down main street while it is snowing, your listening to traditional Christmas music, drinking hot chocolate, and eating cookies.

Thank you all for the great opinions and experiences. I really want to make this trip stand out from our normal trips so I think the MVMCP will be something great to add to it. I intend on buying the tickets for the day we arrive since we will not make it to the hotel until 5 and that will be a great way to start the trip. Thank you again for the help!:xmas:

I drove from West Palm to visit it in November 2009. I did not have my AP at the time so I just bought the ticket for the event. For just that event if you are not using an AP or one day ticket it IS worth the cost for it. When we visit with AP's or with actual tickets we do not even bother. We can get cookies at AKL and pop some cocktails in the room and be just as happy.

MVMCP........maybe

We go to Disney every late Nov., early Dec because Disney does Christmas
in a big way. We did MVMCP 2 yrs. ago and won't do it again. IMHO it is not
worth the money. Yes, they do give cookies and hot choc., apple slices etc but as much as I love the MK, no to the Christmas party. However, we LOVE MNSSHP. The park is decorated for Halloween and treat or treat is everywhere. The parade and fireworks are really special. :sohappy: Happy holidays. :xmas:

:xmas:Have gone every year for the past 5 years and wouldn't miss it -- I usually go the second week in December, and attend the Sunday evening MVMCP...it is nowhere near capacity, and to answer your question, it depends on what you want out of the magic Kingdom...

These events were designed for the Florida locals, to bring them into the park during the holidays. The closer to Christmas, the more crowded they get. They don't really market them to the resort folks, although a LOT of resort stayers will go to them. Since it's an upcharge atop the regular passes, they make plenty of money.

You can enter at 4:00 with your ticket, long before the party starts in the evening, so you get a full afternoon/night in the park. The crowds are generally very low, and they disperse differently than a normal day in the park:

The locals head to the "Christmas attractions" -- the free cookies and cocoa throughout the park (also apple juice and other surprises)...they flock to the parade and the fireworks...

The non-locals enjoy the Christmas atmosphere but head to the rides -- they are mostly all walk-ons all night long, including space mountain. If rides are your thing, there is absolutely nothing like MVMCP for short lines.

That being said, it HAS changed over the years -- there used to be more entertainment: stage shows, etc. The biggest stage show used to be in Tomorrowland theater, which was closed a few seasons ago (indeed, the entire theater was torn out and turned into a parking lot for employees). This used to have huge crowds. Now they do a stage show in front of the castle, but it is not the same -- it's geared toward tiny tots and mostly features the characters singing inane disney channel songs.

The parade IS good - and it looks special at night. The Christmas atmosphere IS palpable. The kids will love it. The fireworks are very good.

I personally wouldn't miss it -- I like the combination of rides with no lines and some of the Christmas events, but I love the feeling in the park. It's usually cold in the evenings in Florida, so it adds a bit of winter feeling to it. Disney comes alive at night, as you know. And MVMCP is something that they do well. :xmas:
