Would love it & happily fork over some extra $ to visit. Ive read a bit about so much ending in trash heap too - hate to think about it!

I see a park museum as something to bring to Disney Springs. Multiple floors of space, structured as a chronological resort history with each park getting a big exhibit hall.
Put animatronics from extinct attractions back into service as "interpreters" for certain exhibits. Like Mickey Mouse Revue Mickey is a host figure for an exhibit on the early development of Walt Disney World, and the centerpiece of the Epcot Center exhibit hall is a reconstruction of the Dream Machine with Dreamfinder and Figment aboard that occasionally talk about different extinct Epcot attractions, with displays similar to the Epcot 25 exhibit mixed with some early pavilion models surrounding them.

Disneyland when it opened had a ton of walk through experiences. I dont understand why everyone keeps saying cop should be moved either to epcot ora museum. Sure it moved from land to world but disney is never going to spend that money again. Honestly i could see this off property doing better. Either on the florida property, california or even vegas. It wouldnt fit in a park (maybe epcot if you also showed the past present future of ride design) and disney springs wouldnt give up the space although if disney quest was still around maybe they could have used a floor.

I thought this same idea up a long time ago. It would be a incredible place to spend time. Even in the form of a restaurant like Planet Hollywood. One Mans Dream was always my favorite at MGM.

Stick it in Hollywood Studios. I’d spend more time in that building alone then the rest of the park combined.

Again, I don't like that idea because 1. A history museum in Hollywood Studios makes no sense (One Man's Dream is different as it pertains to Walt Disney... one of the biggest Hollywood icons in history) and 2. An area in Hollywood Studios would take up too much space that should be used for attractions

Placing it in Hollywood studios makes perfect sense. Walt did so much for the movie industry the list of classic is endless--Snow White. 101 Dalmations, Old Yeller etc. There is more than enough space in and around Hollywood studios; space is not a problem at WDW.

But this would be for the theme park history not walt and what he did. Regardless id love to see it anywhere.
Room 1) You could enter and it would be what theme parks were like at the time (the reason the park was built) show quotes on the wall of what made walt want a park. Maybe a boring bench watching kids on a kiddie ride.. and have fake gum on the ground and trash.
Room 2)
Have model ride on trains and showcase his original (theme park/trains)
room 3)
show the designs for mickey mouse park
Room 4)
Disney land rides (actual ride vehicles)
room 5)
Disney world rides (actual ride vehicles)
Room 6)
bob gurr room (showing the design of rides)
Room 7)
how rides are designed in the future
Room 8)
FUTURE (this would be for the mockups of rides that are coming next) and would always be changing

This could be huge and like ive said could be in florida, California, vegas or any other state.. it wouldn't really have to be in a current park. It could be a full day experience very easily.

Ways it could make money... allow selfies in several of the rides, have backgrounds like you were in Disneyland in the 60s for selfies,
I got this idea from Disneyland doing throwback nite (look up Justin scarred youtube of it) or http://micechat.com/182273-disneyland-resort-update-priced-retro/ . Look it up the lines were super huge and millennials love their selfies.
You could do a lot also with VR maybe design your own rides or even holograms. Make it about the why, the past, the present and the future.. it would even sell the parks because it would show the rides that are coming that you need to ride.

Personally, I'd be more interested in an independent museum of theme park history that could present a point of view outside of the official company lines. Maybe something that puts the big Disney rides in context with the work of Bill Tracey and the various people who developed walk-through and ride-through attractions at World's fairs over the years.

i've seen, floating around on various parts of the internet, the idea of relocating CoP to a museum, preserving it permanently, and using the tomorrowland space for a new attraction. i don't hate that idea; it'd feel weird but i've always been amazed it's lasted this long and worried its time is running out. moving it to a museum would ease this constant stress i get from worrying about its fate amidst all the complaints i'm sure disney gets from people who think it's boring

There are museums for far less significant things. I makes sense to me. I'd go in and look around.

ppete1975 nails it. It would be dedicated to the history of the RESORT AND ITS ATTRACTIONS. NOT WALT DISNEY. In addition, Hollywood Studios is built into a corner. In reality, Hollywood Studios has nowhere to expand. There's one plot of land near Sunset Showcase and Tower of Terror and that's it and it's not nearly enough room.

If they bulldozed some buildings containing all of these outdated shows, they’d have room. It’s HS. It’s not like they have a problem taking things to do out without having much of anything to replace them for years at a time.

Alright, I'll concede I'd have no problem seeing the museum occupy the space where the animation academy used to be and... the unmentionable currently is... but I personally believe it's far more appropriate to place it in Disney Springs as it will cover the theme park as a whole and Disney can charge special admission fees for it. I'd be willing to hand over 30$ to see it. Maybe give passholders a discount?

Discount? No, AP’s should get in free. Did they get a price break when DisneyQuest closed? I doubt it.

Honestly my initial statement about HS yesterday was more of an s/a response because I think HS has been a waste of space and a ripoff since the day it opened. But truth is putting this there, and keeping it updated with some rotating exhibits would help give something to see and enjoy in this park every time someone would go.

I was there on the last day of DisneyQuest and yes we did. And it wouldn't be something updated every few months but every year or two.

Exactly what Walt would have hated a museum.
You're probably right.
There's something deeply antithetical about a museum in a theme park setting. After all, the whole idea with Disney's parks is the whole thing is a show- nothing destroys that more than a place that sets the park objects on a pedestal with a sign that says, "this is a robot here's who made it".

On the other hand, Walt never had a problem drawing away the magician's curtain on television or studio tours, where it would stand apart from the work it was used for. Who knows what he would have thought to a dedicated museum on property, but outside of the theme park context.

Personally I've always loved little museums in theme parks. Knott's Berry Farm has a couple museums- some on the old west subject matter and at least one dedicated to their own history. There was a small museum in Dollywood for a while curated by IAPPA, but it's been gone for a while. It was really a cool little space. That's in addition to the Dolly Parton museum there.

I get that, but there is not room for something that large at DS. I doubt we would ever see anything like this, since I don't think we have since the 20,000 Leagues exhibit in CA. If we did, however, Disney would not give up valuable real estate for it. The most likely would be something to increase capacity in the parks. As for One Man's Dream, they is a shell of what it once was. I would love to simply see them increase that and put Walt back into the parks.
Disney World has 30,000+acres at least 50% still undeveloped...they have the room! I think the best place to put a Museum like this would be near a lot of people, like Disney Springs AREA and with access to I-4...there is room in that area for a Museum, don't tell me here isn't LOL! There is nice plot of land beside ESPN bordered by Osceola Parkway and Victory Way. That would be perfect for I-4 access and still in Disney Springs AREA! See, I told you there was room! :)

Disneyland had a 20,000 league walk through of the props from the movies, babes in toyland exhibit (props), Disneyland presents a preview of coming attractions, legacy of walt Disney, the walt Disney story, Disneyland the first magical 50 years, Monsanto hall of chemistry, monsantos fashions and fabrics through the ages, aluminum hall of fame, crane company bathroom of tomorrow, Monsanto house of the future, the art of animation, davy crockett museum,
underlined are when walt was still alive

So not sure why he would be upset (not that you anyone can say what walt would or wouldn't like), I think he would want outdated rides replaced by new rides, but I don't think he would care if old ride vehicles were shown to promote the walt Disney company and make more money. He didn't want Disneyland to become a museum, but attractions that showcase the past, present, future he probably would be in favor of (especially if off site). Heck he supported his hometown museum.

When I ran the full Disney Marathon, there was a part (between Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom) where they displayed old ride vehicles of Mr Toad's Wild Ride, Snow White's Scary Adventure, 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea and there were two other vehicles that are slipping my mind right now. I'll try and dig out a picture of it. Also, let's face it. If Disney ever does it, it won't be free admission. But if that means a very thorough and complete museum, I'm okay with that.

Can anyone just stumble upon this? Because I'd like to.

I would LOVE this! I just went to Marceline, MO yesterday and went to the Walt Disney Hometown Museum. It was amazing! I would love something like this for WDW!

How was that? I've always wanted to visit Marceline but want to combine it with other things to do. How big is the hometown museum? Is it sanctioned by the family the way the one in San Francisco is? (another one I'd like to visit)
