MSEP's return to WDW - new music?

Now Is The Time

After watching the video of the Main Street Electrical Parade's first run in it's return to WDW, I can't help but feel disappointed about the new version of the music even though some have said, "You'll get used to it."

I don't want to sound like a broken record which I'm sure a lot of "Disney purists" sound like, but for me that original MSEP music is what made the parade so special for me years ago and it's the main thing that has kept the memories alive all this time. Now to have the parade back and listen to this new 2.0 version of the music is a bit of a downer. Sure it sounds similar, but it's not the original. Plus, what's up with a number of the floats missing?

I just think they should be calling it "The NEW MSEP" because it's not the one we grew up with.

Anyone else agree? This is for the veterans - if you're a youngster who never saw the original parade, it's a free country but don't feel obligated to comment. :ROFLOL:

The last time I saw the parade in Florida I was around 7 or 8 (although I've seen it in California several times since both the new and the old versions).

I understand what you're saying about the music...I do prefer the old myself, but frankly when I'm watching it I really don't notice the difference...I only realize it sounds cleaner and more modern when I think about it so its not a huge issue...although I would say the original is slightly better.

As far as floats, which ones are missing? The only one I know of thats missing is the blue fairy which Tinkerbell unfortunately replaced. I'm not saying you're wrong I just didn't notice any other ones missing.

MSEP/ ELP is my favorite parade of all time so it really doesn't take much for me to get excited. It's enough for me that its just back. : - )

I tend to be about as "Disney Purist" as you get and I didn't have any issues the last time I saw the parade in DCA in 2006 (aside from the clear issue of it being in DCA instead of DL).

Oh! Yep I forgot about that unit...haven't seen it in a long time. Just a guess but I'm pretty sure the Pinocchio unit took its place.

I agree 100% on the music. The original, with it's in-between G and G# key signature and TRUE synthemagnetic musical soudns are what MADE this parade. The new music, though I don't mind it now that I've listened to it 1000 times, just doesn't hold a candle to the original. I might have been OK with it if they hadn't completely re-scored all of the floats. "Alice in Wonderland" is the same for the first few measures, but then goes off on this other strange version. All of the other floats sound relatively nothing like their original scores, save for maybe "To Honor America."

BUt the whole thing feels rather lifeless, like a big Midi file that's being played back on a computer. The opening fanfare alone has less harmonies on it than the original. To be more specific, the last note before the "Ladies and Gentleman" announcment is just octave notes, rather than a full major chord like the original, which is just bad voice leading. Little things like that bother me!!! Also, those bubbly sweeps and sounds aren't as present in the new version, and when they are they sound certified CHEESY.

Aside from the Bass Drum not reading "Magic Kingdom Presents Main Street Electrical Parade," the parade is also missing "Dumbo's Circus," which it has been missing since it's re-debut in 2009. I'm not sure why, has anyone ever found a legit reason for this?

All the promotional items for the parade kept saying "It's the same exact parade you remember from the 1970s and on." Well, no, it's not. Parts of it are the same, but it's significantly different from the original.

I talk smack on it a bit, but in reality I really can't wait to see it.

No Dumbo floats, no Dumbo music.

However, music was done for the Dumbo section and can be heard on YouTube if you search for the 2009 soundtrack of Disney's Electrical Parade.

Totally agree. The first time I saw the parade was in 2000, with the original music. The last time I saw the parade was in DCA last year, with the new music. I was hoping at WDW we would get the original music back, but this is not the case. I still haven't gotten used to the Dreamlights infused Baroque Hoedown.

I saw the original and the new one. I liked both. But I like the new one better. The blue fairy was aging and you have to keep things updated. About the dumbo... maybe he is in shop at DCA or DLR getting updated floats because I dont see why they would record dumbo if he wasnt going to be in it

The first time I remember seeing MSEP was in 1999 I think, at the MK. I'm assuming even though it wasn't its original run, it was the original score. But I probably couldn't tell the difference, but I know that the blue fairy float is gone. I did see some of it last year at DCA(trying to leave the park though), but it didn't really look right there imo.

For those who want to compare, I've actually made a complete mix of the new 2010 version of the parade, splicing together many different sources, including the new underliner of Baroque Hoedown, each individual float, brief segments of the original 7'' vinyl picture disc of MSEP, old Jack Wagner announcements and 1999-2001 MK announcements to create the most up-to-date possible mix of the parade. Here is the link to the NEW updated version.

And here is the original Disneyland/WDW score, which includes DL's 25th Anniversary Float and Return to OZ Float.

Enjoy! :)

sounds like they took the guts out of the soundtrack and just destroyed it. Wouldn't have minded the old music cleaned up but this is just trash, Like too little butter over too much bread.
