Moving Up In The Ranks...

I'm aware that many people do the College Program and/or work for Disney, but what are the chances of being promoted to a job that you could potentially make a carrer out of?

I'm not referring to any job in particular, but I always wondered what happened to the people who work for Disney for a long time and what the outcome of thier years of service are. I know this question is a little vague, but I need help in understanding this.

It's quite possible, and happens often. Most people only stay at one location for 6 months to a year, then move around. There's plenty of potential to move up or across. And the roles don't necessarily need to be connected either. If you talk to people who have been with the company for even just 5-10 years and hear them list off the roles they've had, it's amazing.

Yes very true.It is interesting to see how long timer Execs like VP's have worked in many different roles that are sooo different.Ive seen some Execs go from resorts to operations and vice versa then to F&B to human resources to marketing to governement relations and so on.
Its fair to say that you can go through any college course catalog and find that most or all degrees can be used at Disney.

Yup! I have a friend who did the college program, and now she is full time and trains the college programmers. Its possible.

I started on the college program and worked my way up from there. I've only been with the company almost 4 years, but I've held 6 different roles, all being a promotion from one to the next.

My story is very short... CP to Campus Rep.. to offered Professional Internship... (due to financial circumstances) I am declining the position to be a CP again and take a Professional Internship later on. But afterwards I expect to move up as I have made substantial contacts in 4 different divisions and have some flexibility.

While the full time CPs and other union employees bicker about tenure, the truth of the matter is contacts and networking. If you can sell yourself as being a feesable candidate for a position in management (and have a bachelors degree) you will move up. The CP is considered as "paying your dues" often, though not always. In all honesty it depends on your persona and who you meet. Best of luck.

BTW... when did you do your CP and where did you work?

Edit: Have you considered being a Campus Rep? Andy would be your recruiter/boss and he is awesome. I suggest applying if you are graduating after this semester.

I've never done the CP or anything related to Disney. I was just curious about this sort of thing because I'd love to work for Disney, but I'd want a realistic approach to a job there.
